what's up marchies... beware of leftover Easter candy in the office this week.
-
i did it about 3 days before surgery, so the meal would pass. I asked the nurse about a week before surgery, she smiled and winked at me, then whispered 'go ahead'.....
-
PS washburn.. that works for me. Nothing like a little competition to get the fat burning. What do you guys want to wager? haha.. I got it. How about the last one to hit their BMI target has to post a pic of themselves in a skirt on the before/after board.....

Fellas... I just had the most obvious....or atleast second obvious...of band questions for dudes. Are there any good "band friendly" beers out there? Of course assuming we're watching calories or at our goal weight, could we drink a Guiness or a Newcastle or Boddington's or something? Some of the darker beers aren't really that carbonated, right?
-
actually this is funny. I got banded on 3/16 when I was 29 and turned 30 9 days later during my recovery. My thought was, "I'm not going to go through another decade being fat". I have to admit, going through my 20's banded would have been a blast....actually, it was a blast anyway. The way I look at it is, you'll only be in your 20's once...so if getting banded and controlling your weight will make you happy, go for it. BTW.. I love to exercise and play sports and could still never get my weight under control. I am a chronic overeater, can't control my portions, kind of dude. Even with dieting, your still going to lose weight and gain it back almost everytime. The band doesn't let you eat like that. Also, I had no ancillary conditions with obesity, but older members of my family are loaded with Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart problems. There is no way I was going to let myself go that route. My decision to get the band was also for preventitive reasons as well (since I was turning 30). Anyway...that's my story..

my first fill is 5/8
-
that's awesome Brewa.. you and I should have a fat-off and see who makes it to the 170s first....
-
Congrats Chris.. I remember reading that you had a lot more hoops to jump through than most people. good luck
-
I feel the same thing some times. it almost feels like a cramp you get when you're exercising...buts it's below my port
-
by the way.... with 27lb loss so far, I was a lot more quick and nimble out there. I play 3rd....turned 3 double plays and I gunned someone out at the plate.. Also went and hit some golf balls..... Fighting a BAD hook right now. It's amazing how fast you can turn on a ball without 30lbs of gut in the way.

Band of Brothers... Had our first softball double header last thursday night. This was about 3 weeks after banding, so really my first exercise. Let me tell ya...after 3 weeks of recovering, i'm not sure that's the way to go. My whole body was sore, every muscle, but particularly my abs right around the port area. Anyone else get really sore around the port when they went back to exercising? I hadn't felt any pain since about a week after surgery, but I was hurtin' this weekend.
-
I'm sustaining.. first fill is in 4 weeks. BUT, I can start working out again later this week, so that should help kick start some calorie burning.
-
another thing. I really can't eat a plain sandwich or lasagna without that "stuck" pain. Anything "gummy" when you chew it up causes me problems. Seems like, to comfortably eat bread, it has to be toasted.
-
Thanks Brewa.. Hey, atleast youre not feeling "teste"...haha
-
Fellas - I'm scheduled to get my first fill in 4 weeks. Is there a huge difference in what you can eat, how you eat, how much you can eat, etc. after the fill?
-
JB... the fitness club I belong to has a tank they can weigh you in and measure your body fat%. Try that.
-
The trainer has a Bio undergrad and master's in excercise science by the way.... Another thing i did, was this stress test offered at my club where you excercise at different stresses to determine your optimal heart rate range for burning fat.. Check that out as well.. Might not be what you thought it was...

Big Jake.. I lift and here is my take... Protein, low carb, low fat....whatever....I think you can push that aside for now. The whole idea is less calories in than you're burning each day. SO, if youre burning more than youre taking in, you can't gain 'mass', either fat or muscle. If we are active now, we should be in the cardio and tone frame of mind. I do about 45 min /day of cardio and a few sets of high rep/lower weight to hit the major muscle groups. I benchED about 320 before i started the bandventure. That's basically what the trainer at the gym said... Also, I hear muscle milk is loaded with sugar and calories. That's the color I have. Hope it helps.

I usually get protein shakes from the fitness club i belong too. They contain whey protein, pb, a banana, ice and some kind of dairy. They make these in a blender. They must get really airated when they're blending them, because it felt like I swallowed a bowling ball the whole afternoon after I drank one. So - maybe those aren't a good idea after being banded </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> I had asked my dr about the pb and bananas because I was all ready to make a smoothie with that kinda stuff and I was told no. Something about them being sticky so they don't go down as well. I can have them when I'm back on regular foods, but just saying this might be the bowling ball feeling you mentioned. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________ Ah.. that was probably why i felt bloated all day.. Today was the hardest day yet. I was starving before lunch and before i got home from work. Had to grab a yoo hoo, because i thought i was going to pass out. I am ready for realy food. Is pudding considered mushies? I've been eating that all week.

Mark - some might say that i am vertically challenged. I also have pretty broad shoulders and carry almost all of my excess weight in the torso area... I sorta look like a fat brian urlacher

it is a good thing. you're about to be under 200, too. I bet that will feel good.

Bmi 28, Am I Crazy--Considering surgery
RowdyReptile replied to kit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey - you only get one chance to live your life. if the band can help you live a healthy, happy life... I say go for it. -
Brothers of the band, I have a small accomplishment to share. Today I wore the ultra sleek, 36in waste, non pleated, straight fit pant to work today.. Had a bit of dunlap, maybe exagerated from the post-op swelling, but I pulled it off without looking like an idiot. Many compliments from the back-office ladies in cubicles as well, I might add. I have worn these pants at the tail end of my annual diet the last 4 years, only to blow back up to the 250+ area (40in waste).
