About Me
I'm 46 (almost) and live in central Illinois. I am very happily married to a wonderful and supportive man, who even suffered through most of my pre op diet with me, just so I didn't feel so alone. We have two wonderful dogs, though they are more like our children, who have all grown up now.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed as borderline diabetic, and my husband was diagnosed about the same time with diabetes and started on medication. I also have high cholesterol and an inability to tolerate medications to help with that, as well as back pain and newly diagnosed sleep apnea. After our diagnoses, my husband and I began a diabetic diet plan and began working out at the gym three times each week. My beginning weight was 314 lbs. In six months, I was able to lose 60 lbs and was so happy and felt sooooo good, physically and psychologically.
Then I got lazy. I stopped focusing on my eating habits. I began missing my workouts at the gym. In other words, life happened and I didn't bother to adjust to the changes. When I found I had put back on 25 lbs. I gave up. I never thought this would happen, as I felt so empowered by the 60 lbs I had lost. My husband was my workout buddy and his work schedule changed. Slowly we both fell off the wagon. Of course, we did that together too!
Nine months ago, one of my coworkers told me about her Lapband experience, when I commented to her about her weight loss. I got excited and began looking into it. Since then, another coworker was banded and I have been able to watch her succeed on her journey as well. I was banded on May 29, 2012. I look forward to the LapBand being my tool to not get lazy, to not stop focusing on what I eat and how much I eat. It will be with me always and not let me fail! It will tell me when I step off the path. It will reward me when I make good choices. Welcome to my life LapBand, its such a pleasure to have you aboard.
