Last Pre-Op Day, Clear Liquids Only!
Failure commented on Failure's blog entry in Discordya's Fairytale
Thank you so much ladies! <3 -
Okay so I've spent the last 2 days looking at online shopping for ramekins and they are pretty hefty in price for decent looking ones so now I'm just curious where did you guys get your ramekins? I'm not so worried about price but I wanted to get a set of 4 or more if I could. So I'm just curious where you guys got yours. I'm going to go to Walmart later today and see if the only ones they have are the plain white ones. I don't mind those.

Well. I got it. I got my surgery date. It's for June 27th. I'm so excited. That leaves 10 days before I have to start my pre-op diet which they require me to do 7 days prior and the day before surgery has to be clear liquids only with no red dyes. I'm stoked. So I've been getting things ready. I ordered 9 sample packs from Unjury 3 each in the chocolate splendor, chicken soup and unflavored packets for $1.99 each so that was $17.91 plus S&H. Then I got a sampler kit of Syntrax Nectar packets. It comes with 11 packets in a variety of flavors including Apple Ecstasy, Cappucino, Caribbean Cooler, Chocolate truffle, Crystal Sky, Fuzzy Navel, Lemon Tea, Pink Grapefruit, Roadside Lemonade, Strawberry Kiwi, Strawberry Mousse, Twisted Cherry and Vanilla Bean Torte. It came to be the same price as the Unjury including S&H. I'm fairly impressed. I know I can find ways to like the taste of the majority of these flavors in some form or another. So I have the protein taken care of, for now. I feel better about that. I have a few samples to try here at home to get use to that taste. I don't particularly like it. But I have another shopping list I need to take care of that consists of some soy milk and yogurt, various liquids that are not a thick form, like vitamin water, etc. I need to get some broth to water down or some no sodium bouillon cubes and some SF popsicles. Lots of people seem to have lived by those and maybe still do. They also said I can find no added sugar or low sugar preserve juice from Smucker's. I guess that's pretty neat. I will look at the nutrition facts and see about those. I loves me some juice! Other than that I'm just trying to take it easy and get in any last bit of shopping I need to do directly before the next 10 days comes too fast. I have to overnight ship the last papers of the financing stuff. So once I can get that expensive crap taken care off I'll feel a lot better. Eric needs to get his side sent in, too. I just hope he can get it in with no problems. References: Unjury: http://www.unjury.com Snytrax: http://www.bestprice...k-11-packs.html

If you mean for the Syntrax Nectar it's one serving per packet with 8 oz of water or almond milk, whatever you want really. Same for Unjury.

Well, not directly. I'm worried about BEING sick. I've been sick since Wednesday and trying to be careful on what kind of medication I take. I have only taken acetominophen which is NOT an NSAID which is advised against pre-op. It's the only medicine I've taken except a small 25 mg allergy pill to help with a tiny bit of congestion. My problem is mostly a sore throat. It could be strep but I wouldn't know. I don't have the money for a PCP right now because all of our funds went to the surgeon that we had extra right now and I don't have insurance at this time. I mean who would have thought this would even happen anyway? So I'm just worrying, because my throat does not hurt anymore but it is still swollen. I can see it. It's huge in there. I don't have trouble breathing or anything and it's not painful to swallow. I'm just worried it won't be better by surgery time and I don't know what else to do to try to get this swelling down. :/
-
I have been gargling salt water the last 2 days and it helps a lot. I stopped taking the Tylenol on Friday morning I think was the last one I had so I'm not going to take any other medicines. Just been drinking liquids and eating some vitamin C throat drops that are sugar free. I don't like the juice plus I'm not allowed it in my pre-op diet. I'm only minimally stuffy at all now but my throat, although not painful, is swollen.

I'm sorry if this has been asked or outlined somewhere. I couldn't seem to find it but maybe that's due to frustration at the moment. I'm just wondering what exactly is the difference between what is considered a full liquid and what is a puree. Because technically puree is the stage after a full liquid stage, but you can make a lot of things into a creamy texture using a puree setting on a blender (at least on mine you can) depending on ingredients of course but I'm just wondering, what makes the difference and how do you know what is ok for what stage? If there's no soft chunks or anything, is that still technically okay for a full liquid stage?

Differences Of "full" Liquid And Pureed
Failure replied to Failure's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
See I get so confused because then they say fat free peanut butter is a full liquid list. Ugh. I don't know what to eat! I'm sick of campbell's soups! I want to make something different. I may make the cauliflower soup. I just want a different texture. I had some pudding which was nice for a change of texture. -
Surgeon Questions - The Ever Growing Request
Failure posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so I've done about 3 major searches through the forums for posts related to questions you should ask your surgeon. There is no 1 direct place where this is located and I was wondering 2 things. First off, is there anyone that could maybe make a pinned thread of a list of questions that might be good to ask your surgeon that people can add to like some of the other things that are pinned? It seems to be a really popular request. Secondly, I'm going to write out the questions I have written down to ask. These are all ones I've either thought of or found here on the forums to be really important. Can you guys think of anything else I am missing?? *Feel free to copy and paste these into a word program and print them for yourself!* - Can you take a picture of my stomach that you take out? - Do you utilize catheters? - What bougie size do you use? - How many sleeve surgeries have you done on people with a BMI similar to mine? What types of results to they see? - Do many of your patients lose 50% of their weight or more? - What are the biggest reasons you see your patients "fail" at long-term weight loss? - How many years out is your first patient, and what have their results been? (side note for you guys, this will also give you an idea how long your surgeon has been doing weight loss surgeries) - Will I have a drain? - Will there be any post-op medications I need to take, what ones? - How many incisions will there be? - Is a sedative something I can request or is it automatically given? - What can I expect to feel like upon waking up from the surgery? - Are there any "leak" tests performed? - How are the incisions going to be closed? And that concludes my list. Do you know of anything else I should maybe ask my surgeon in consultation? -
Would I get denied a surgery from having mental issues if I am paying out of pocket?
-
I'm not on any medications at this time. But when I had my consultation they actually didn't require any psych eval. They strongly encouraged me to talk to someone before and after the surgery but they did not "require" it.

I like this in star shape actually because I can pour soup into my mouth easily when it gets low and spoon won't pick it up. Is actually super convenient. I already tried one lol.

Just wanted to make a quick update. I was at a yard sale type thing today inside of a flea market and you'll never guess what I got! For $3:

I'm so scared but excited at the same time! I'm pretty sure everything will be ok! I do not really need any pre-op tests. They said they will do a pregnancy test because it is mandatory and the anesthesiologist might want a CBC but it's up to him. It won't be any extra cost that they know of, it's included in the hospital fees. They gave me this awesome little shaker bottle that you can use to drink your shakes in, it has a little wire ball that shakes and mixes your powders up really good. Then they gave me only 2 samples of Celebrate Protein mix. I got chocolate and strawberry. I do not like the chocolate, it tastes like chocolate chalk with that fake sugar taste (I HATE that fake sugar taste). Is unjury chocolate any better?? So other than that I feel pretty good. I got all my questions answered, and he said he would take a pic of my tummy for me, lol. He wasn't weirded out by that question at all. I'm overall so pleased with how nice everyone was. The nutritionist was very informative and they have this booklet that had all the answers to my major questions. They want ma to get 70-80g of protein a day. I need to do a "full" liquid diet for a week before surgery (starting the 20th) and then Clear liquids only with no red dyes the day before surgery. And then for after surgery it's the standard 2-2-2 of course. So this is my journey. I'm on my way! Is anyone else having theirs on the 27th?? -
Yeah they suggest the almond milk over the soy milk. They told me not to mix a lot of soy milk in one time, but with PCOS I don't think I have much issue with having "too much" estrogen as we are lacking a bit of it, lol.

I like this post a lot. It's very informative. I was wondering if a 38 was one of the bigger ones, but if he pulls tight then it may not be much. And I like what Lissa said about it being very minimal. If it's sized by millimeters just remember how tiny a millimeter really is. You can look on a ruler and they are the 2nd smallest lines on there, right? So not much difference really.

I am June 27th also, a day ahead of you! Good luck and God bless to each of you! I'm excited for all of us!

Okay so basically I have my consult on Monday at 9:45 AM and have gotten confirmation that all the stuff for financing is set up and after I get my surgery date on Monday then they will send me the last of the paperwork. Aside from that I've been trying to make some "lists" because since I am not going through insurance, my surgery will probably be sometime this month! I need to get everything all together that I need but I feel like I am missing things. So far for my "in general" shopping list, which includes items I'll need pre-op and post-op: - low sodium broth - baby food - SF popsicles/fudgsicles - chewable vitamins - sublingual B12 - protein powders/shakes - Gas X strips - a huge t-shirt for comfort at night - jello mixes - "cream of" soups for puree weeks - ramekins - stick blender or magic bullet blender - storage containers for broth etc - kitchen scale What am I missing???

Sent a request also, name is Sara T on there June 27th here!

Protein Shakes The Best, The Good, The Okay, And The Don't Do It List
Failure replied to ChristyLove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far all I have tried is Celebrate ENS in chocolate mixed with cold Water like the instructions say, and it's friggin' gross. It has that fake sugar taste that I hate so much. Maybe it's the Protein but I dunno. It's just gross. Maybe I should mix it with something else to make it taste better? -
