Returning To Work Tomorrow!
karenb4729 replied to chicagochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be in the same boat as you next Monday. I was sleeved on June 4th and will go back to work on July 2nd. For me, I wanted the 4 weeks to get use to the new schedule too. My plan is to do my protein drinks at work - isopure or cytosport both of which are clear and deliver a good amount of protein. Then I will bring my little container of cottage cheese or yogurt. My job is a desk job but the office has been stressed out since both myself and another co-worker have been out on leave leaving only 3 people to take care of business. My customers know I'm coming back on Monday so I'm also guessing that my phone will blow up! -
One Week Post-Op
karenb4729 replied to lollyfidy1965's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear that you are recovering well now! I take Milk of Magnesia for when I need to have a movement. My Doc has a progression, first try MOM, then try Magnesia Citrate which you can buy at the store, and if that doesn't work go for Miralax. Usually the MOM works for me. -
Its funny - this thread got me thinking about mothers. When I told my son who is 27 that I was having WLS he was very supportive. He came to vist the week I left the hospital and during the visit he decided to "come clean" with me. He told me that well over a year ago his wife had her tubes tied because they don't want to have children. I guess they were afraid to tell me because they thought I would be upset or try to talk them out of it. I just looked and said that I wasn't surprised and that I knew they didn't want kids and that it's their life anyway. I did say that I was a bit hurt that they didn't tell me. Sometimes mother's can be more understanding than what you think they will be.

3 Weeks Post Op/ June 4Th D.o.s
karenb4729 replied to SallyInCincinnati's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also a June 4ther... Am doing pretty well but I also have a strict Doctor so I'm on pureed food for 6 weeks, then soft food for 4 weeks and at 4 months out I will be moved into a regular diet. I'm ok with that since food doesn't always sit too well with me. I'm good at getting in my Protein with 2 shakes a day and then the chicken broth from unjury. What I have found is that I can't do the ready to drink shakes - they are just too thick. I'm good when I can make shakes out of my fat free lactose free milk with Protein powder. My Water intake is good too and I can take some good size drinks now - probably 1oz a sip and I can go through 8oz in about 40 minutes. For me, crystal light wasn't cutting it and propel was almost to sweet but because of these boards I found Mio and that's been perfect and helped to get my water intake up. Energy levels come and go but I do have to go back to work next week so we will see what happens. As of this morning I'm down 18lbs from surgery - not bad for my first month but hoping it slows down next month as i would like to keep it to no more than 2lbs a week to allow time for my body to catch up. -

Good luck on your surgery today! I know you will do great. -
I was sleeved on June 4th and will be going back to work on July 2nd. I appreciate having the time to not only feel better but to get into habits with drinking my water, protein and my pureed foods in addition to getting down my medicine since I'm not allowed any pills.

Yep - mine was put in while I was in surgery and came out the day after.... still have the residual of the stupid tape though... that stuff hangs on for ever!

I had to do both the endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time as part of my pre-surgery requirements. They were not able to get my knocked out so I was awake for both procedures but they were not nearly as bad and I had thought they would be. Because of issues found I now have to have the colonoscopy done yearly and the endoscopy done every two years and it doesnt bother me now that I know what to expect.

I was on 20mg Prilosec a day before surgery due to my GERD and now am on it twice a day after surgery. I'm still having some issues so may throw in a tums now and then. I have also tried taking the 40mg in the morning but I seem to do better when splitting it up.
-
I know how you feel. I have had some issues since I moved to pureed and it kind of makes you fearful of trying anything new. What did you use for your heatburn? I had GERD before the surgery and my prilosec just doesn't seem to be cutting it like before surgery.

2 Days Till "rebirth"
karenb4729 replied to MoreganK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had done a better job of organzing my clothing before I left. Would make it so much easier as I start weeding out the clothes that are now too big. -
I have the same feeling at night and first thing in the morning. I hope it eventually goes away because I find it annoying.

Where was your 1/2 marathon? Seattle just had theirs this weekend.

But I Do Wanna Be A Size 6
karenb4729 replied to Texarkolina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me, it's not being a size 2 or 4... I would be happy to be an 8. BUT - I want BOOTS, tall boots that zip up and fit my calf, boots that I can tuck my jeans into. The day that happens I will be jumping up and down in the shoe store! -

Anyone Have Post Op Dr's In Washington That Will Do Labs For Me?
karenb4729 replied to reignoftara's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Your primary Doctor should be able to order the labs for you. I'm not sure what all the tests are as I haven't had an "after surgery" lab done yet - only out 3 weeks tomorrow. -
Were You Sent Home With Pain Meds?
karenb4729 replied to Faganberry's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I received a bottle of Oxycodone as well. -
I'm newly sleeved - just since June 4th. However, before my sleeve I couldn't get the weight off no matter what I did until my surgeon put me on a low carb diet. You may want to track your carbs and try to keep them under 30g total to see if that would jump start your loss.

Day 2 Really Bad Heartburn
karenb4729 replied to amusgrave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone know if we can also take Tums while taking prilosec? Sometimes the prilosec just doesn't cut it. -
You wrote a great post! Thanks for the laughs and the truths!

Still Suffering..and A Little Scared?!?! *bowel Issues*
karenb4729 replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 10 days after my surgery before I had my first BM - for me it was 3 days in a row of MOM before I went. Since then I'm still constipated unless I eat something my sleeve doesn't like and boy, watch out. Maybe try a day where you focus on getting in your water and tay away from the protein... one day without it shouldn't hurt and the water may help you go. -
I'm sorry you guys are having a miserable time right now! Its hard when you come on the boards and see the people who breeze through this without any pain or other issues and you wonder why you feel so crappy. The good news is that it does get better! I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow and last Monday I was wondering how the heck I was going to go back to work on July 2nd but, by the end of the week I was feeling so much better that I honestly think I may have been able to go back next week. What's harder for me is not the physical feelings but the amount of work and planning that I need to do to eat. Its counting the protein, the water intake, trying different foods for pureed but some dont sit well... challenges for me. Having to open my meds and putting it into yogurt or pudding is no fun either. In the end, is it worth it? For me, an unqualified YES! I'm now at the lowest weight I have been at in the past 10 years and knowing that its gone for good - well woo hoo to me! You guys will get better, I promise!

How Long Till I Can Take A Bath?
karenb4729 replied to cudlyqt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 6 weeks. I'm a "bath" girl so its driving me crazy not to take my nice relaxing evening bath.
