Thanks And my husband fully supports me getting this surgery. If he didn't he wouldn't be paying for it. I just hate that people who don't know anything about the surgery want to act like they ate experts on the matter. I am aware of the risks but also aware of the benefits. I trust my surgeon and trust that God will watch over me. My mother stated yesterday that she hopes nothing happens. I told her that she wasn't very encouraging. She said well you know they said they knew people who died. I just told her that if God was ready for me then I couldn't stop it. I could walk out the door today and something happen. Life is not guaranteed so you live it and make the best of it and do everything you can to be healthy and prolong it. My trust in God is what has gotten me this far. If my surgery wasn't meant to happen it wouldn't.

Pre-Op Diet: It Gets Better??
lrhodes46 replied to Fat_Librarian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I promise it does get better. I am on day 6 and I no longer crave those carbs. Actually the first day I was fine but woke up on day 2 with a horrible headache that lasted 3 days. I too think it was carb withdrawals. Went to dinner with my family tonight and I ordered a salad and some grilled chicken. Their fried food dinners didn't even tempt me. I actually couldn't eat but half my chicken and about 1/3 of my salad. So hang in there. -
My surgery is on August 13th also! How are you doing on your pre-op diet so far?

Started Pre-Op Diet And Feel Crappy
lrhodes46 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I started my pre-op diet on Monday. Felt fine all day. Then I woke up Tuesday morning with a horrible headache and have had it ever since. I am so tired and just feel yucky. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just my body adjusting to no sugar and no carbs? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am not hungry at all, but just feel bad. -

Well my headache is gone after double doses of Tylenol along with some coffee. Hopefully the next 10 days will be a breeze. The last 2 days will be liquids only. Hang in there brinson889 and kimeo99. It gets better. -

I am just 1 day before you on the 13th. I am not hungry and have lost 4 pounds already. Its not even hard doing without the carbs. I just wish I could take Advil because Tylenol is just not doing it for me. I will be glad when this feeling goes away. -
August 13th.

Had my pre-op appointment yesterday with Dr. Richard WilkenfeldConroe. Got my blood work and EKG done. For anyone wondering about his office and staff, his wife Tina was absolutely wonderful. She went over everything. She is very knowledgeable about the lapband procedure. I highly recommend him. Now to start my pre-op diet on Monday. He also requires 48 hours of nothing but liquids before surgery. I am so ready for August 13th!

I am nervous but not scared of the surgery. Only scared of failing at yet another diet. Going for my pre-op appointment in 2 hours. Surgery on August 13th.

I have Cigna and having hiatal hernia repair along with my lapband surgery. Cigna is coving the repair part but I'm paying the rest. I can't seem to find the surgery center listed on my insurance. I have met my in network deductible but not the out of network one. And it's 10K. Anyone else come across the same problem and have to have it done at a hospital instead? Did it change your out of pocket cost?

Dr. Richard Wilkenfeld - Office staff is TERRIBLE. Find another location.

I am using Dr. Wilkenfeld also. I haven't had any problem so far with the office staff. They have been very helpful. They sent me to be checked for a hiatal hernia since my insurance wouldn't pay for lapband surgery. They have answered all my questions. You are right about the doctor though. He is pretty quiet, but he was very nice. I just hope my experience continues to be good after my surgery. -
Alternative To Pain Meds With Hydrocodone
lrhodes46 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled to be banded on August 13th. I can't take Vicodin or anything with hydrocodone. You see I had to take Narco's for 5 months after shoulder surgery and went through some serious withdrawals even after weaning off of them slowly. My PCP advised me to not take them again. Does anyone know of an alternative pain medicine? I am thinking about seeing my PCP again before surgery to see if it would be okay to take it just for a few days but I probably already know the answer. -

Have any of you ever used Ultracet? It is a tramadol/acetaminophen combo. I took darvocet when I had my gall bladder surgery 10 years ago. But I know we can't get that anymore. -
EGD this morning, pre-op on July 29th, and surgery on August 13th! I cannot wait!

I've decided I don't care what other people think too. Just last weekend someone tells me people have died from lapband. So me being me looked up the articles and had her read them. Then yesterday my mother asked why was I doing it and is it what I really wanted to do. This was after I heard her tell someone on the phone what I weigh and how she didn't know I was that fat. My husband and kids ( all 7 of them support me). I have spent the last 30 years worrying about my family and their needs. The youngest is 17 now it's time to worry about me. I want to be around to see my 4 grandchildren grow up. I have heard comments about how the money could be spent on other things since I am self pay. Well my husband is more than willing to pay. He is tired of seeing me depressed, tired, and sick due to being overweight. I'm not looking forward to the pain but like anything worth it there will be some pain to go through. Do I have worries about surgery? Yes I do but as many surgeries I have had that's normal. The putting in of the IV scares me more than the surgery lol

My EGD is over and I have a hiatal hernia. So now my insurance has to cover the hiatal hernia repair. I will end up paying 5500 for my lapband with imbricatioon. Now to call for my pre-op.

I am with you on this one. True Results is great and they help the patients any way they can. As soon as my insurance denied me, my patient advocate let me know about checking for the hernia. I was surprised I had one. Very glad they had me do the EGD.

I am waiting to have my EGD done here at True Results Houston. I'm so nervous. Any advice?

Were you sedated and completely out during the procedure? I have a fear of being awake and having something down my throat.

Realized How Bad I Need To Lose Weight
lrhodes46 replied to lrhodes46's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't wait to get my EGD done next Tuesday so I can get my surgery scheduled. Who would have thought I would be so excited even knowing the pain at first. But I'm looking at the end result and that's what excites me. Thanks for all the support!! -
Yesterday I went to the mall with my daughter. After 3 hours there my knees hurt, my hips hurt, my back hurt. That just reinforced my decision to have the lapband surgery with plication. I go for my EGD on July 3rd. Hoping to get banded by the end of July.
-
That is good to know. I hate the thought of being even partially awake for the EGD. I'm a big worry wart too. But if I want to try and get insurance to pay I have to have it done. Thanks for the input! Don't know what I would do without this forum.

I am scheduled for my EGD on July 3rd. Anyone had this done and what's it like? My insurance won't cover my surgery so they are checking for a hiatal hernia. That way if I do have one it will be covered and I will have little out of pocket costs.
