Is Anyone Using True Results In Houston ??
lrhodes46 replied to vmarlau's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used them. I had my surgery on August 13th. My surgeon was Dr. Wilkenfeld. -
Mine is the same way. I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I didn't get to see my surgeon as he is out if town for the holidays but I saw the dr at urgent care and they put me on antibiotics. My friends dad is a doctor and he advised me to put heat on it. Said it will draw the infection out. If your surgeon is not too concerned I wouldn't worry

THis is my port incision. It is really red around it but not hot to the touch. I feel a little pain in the area. Mostly because I had a stitch poking out and had to snip it. I will be 3 weeks post op on Monday

Does Fhis Look Infected?
lrhodes46 replied to lrhodes46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the advice. Ok so I decided to make a visit to urgent care. I have a wound infection. They are putting me on strong antibiotics. They also told me to see my surgeon when he gets back to the office next week. Thanks for advising me to see someone. You all are great! -

It hurts on the one side where the stitch came out. I'm just worried it could be a port infection. -

Thanks. I called my surgeon and he's out until next Wednesday. So if it gets worse I just don't know what to do. -
What Is The Average Weight Loss Post Op?
lrhodes46 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I have lost 8 lbs since surgery. What's the normal range? I am on full liquids for the first 4 weeks then add mushies after that. I had the plication with the band so I'm not hungry. But I haven't lost a pound since last week. I know that I've lost some inches though. Any thoughts?? -
Why Are People So Negative Regarding The Lapband?
lrhodes46 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw some extended family today who didn't know I had lapband surgery(well not until my mother felt the need to tell everyone) and the negative comments were plenty. I was even told that my cousin had gastric bypass because the doctors told her they don't like doing lapbands because of so many problems. Really? I just stayed to her that maybe her doc was inexperienced with them and that's the reason. I then heard other comments. I didn't argue and defend my decision. I just told them that they had their opinion and I had mine and let's just keep it at that. Why can't they just shut up if they don't know what they are talking about? I would never make comments to someone about the type of surgery they had. -
What Is The Average Weight Loss Post Op?

Thanks carolinagirl. My surgeon didn't say whether I did ok or not when I went for my post op last Thursday. He's so quiet it's hard to get him to say much unless I ask loads of questions. I have been steadily losing inches. My clothes are getting too big but I don't want to shop yet. I want to put it off as long as I can. I'm down a total of 20 lbs. since I started the pre-op diet. -
Why Are People So Negative Regarding The Lapband?
lrhodes46 replied to lrhodes46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the comments. I haven't really told anyone other than a few close friends (1 who had lapband surgery and a few others who are deciding on WLS). It's my mother who can't refrain from telling people. Not because she's proud of me but because she thinks I shouldn't have one it. This coming from someone who is overweight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetic. Sh lives with us and sometimes makes me feel like I am 5 years old and can't make my own decisions. Which I have been making since I was 17 years old. I agree that the more ignorant they are of the surgery the more negative the comments. I have wanted to post on Facebook about my surgery but know that I will get tons of negativity. This is not the easy way out that's for sure. It's surgery. That's never the easy way out. As for the people who say we could all just diet and exercise well I've done that as I know all of you have. I can lose it but then gain it all back and then some. I have been dieting my whole life and was finally just sick of it. Thanks to everyone here for the support! I don't know what I would do without y'all. -

This Time Tomorrow Ill Be In Surgery...any Advice?
lrhodes46 replied to prettysmart1913's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Luck! -
I was banded on August 13th. I too had all the same doubts before surgery. It is normal. The recovery from lap band surgery is really not bad. I only took 2 pain pills after surgery then went directly to liquid Tylenol. The band is a tool to help you achieve your goal. I have one regret about having lap band surgery: that I didn't do it sooner. My problem has never been losing it but keeping it off. I have lost 8 lbs in just this last week. If you can't get the support from your boyfriend then this forum is full of great listeners with great advice. We are here for you if you need us.

It's Been A Week Already!?
lrhodes46 replied to jessicakesbanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days post op too. I have been having water, tea, sf Popsicles and coffee. My first day I could handle the broth. But after 3 days of it I'm gagging whenever I have it. So I don't. I'm also having a lot of spasms due to a large hiatal hernia repair. The spasms make me dry heave. Dr said to have what I can as long as I don't get dehydrated. -
1 day post op and the pain from banding is not bad. I've only taken my pain medicine twice. But my chest hurts from the hiatal hernia repair. Deep breaths make it worse along with the gas I feel in my chest. I had the dry heaves and vomited a little. Is all this normal? I have been using gas x strips. The surgeon also gave me pills to take for stomach spasms.

Thanks. I was starting to get worried. I just feel pretty yuck today. Hoping tomorrow will be better.

I'm on my way to the the hospital for my surgery. Good luck to those of you also being banded today!

Good luck tomorrow!

I spent the day grocery shopping, cleaning and preparing some meals and freezing them for my family. I am not too nervous. I just wish people would stop telling me "I hope nothing happens". Is that supposed to make me feel better?? Someone even went so far as to say I could die. I just told them that when God is ready to take me he will no matter what I'm doing or where I am. I am not afraid at the moment. Not to say I won't be anxious once I go to bed tonight or when I get there in the morning but for now I'm totally okay.

Connection W/ Past And Weight Problems?
lrhodes46 replied to meyouus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What an excellent topic! I can relate to alot of the things you said. I started gaining weight after my son was born 26 years ago. I got belittled because I couldn't lose the weight. I was told that I was fat and needed to lose weight. When I lost it I was told I was too thin. I have been constantly told that I was fat like my dad's side of the family. But my dads side of the family never told me any of that. They loved me fat or thin. Imy oldest daughter had a little bit of a weight issue after my grandson was born. I never once told her she needed to lose weight. That was her decision and I knew that saying it to her would only make her more depressed. She lost it and I am very proud of her. My children and my husband totally support me. But there are so many issues of my past that I had to overcome to get to this point. Thank you for making us really think today. God bless you! -
Yesterday was my grandsons birthday party. Imagine my surprise when I overhead people discussing the fact that I'm having lapband surgery. All I heard was negativity from people who have no clue about it. I heard things like people have died from that, my friends wife died a year after having it blah blah blah. I kindly told them that if they wanted to discuss MY surgery and MY life at least do the research first and get the facts. They thought they could discourage me from having the surgery but its made me more determined. These are people who are diabetic but ate everything they shouldn't and not only in small amounts! So for those of you who have the same issues with people don't worry about it. There is always going to be someone talking about what you are doing especially those who can't handle their own lives. I say let them talk because that's all it is.

Thanks. I tried to do it without getting nasty with them. But I will prove them all wrong when the weight is off. That will be my greatest pleasure.
