  1. I'm 2 days post-op too. All I've had so far is broth, sf Popsicles, sf jello and G2. My mommy (I'm 36, lol) just went to the store to get V8 and creamed soups for me to try. I'm glad, because my new stomach is hungry!!!!

    Removing Nailpolish?

If it's a dark color, then it could be a problem. The pulse ox can usually pick up on lighter shades of polish. If they can't get a reading through your polish, they'll use your earlobe.

    Coming Out...

Most every cancer survivor that I know is proud of recovering from cancer. You would have to understand being told you have cancer, and being unsure about everything in your life, before deciding on who you reach out to for support. Just as we reach out to other overweight/obese people on this site, cancer survivors do the same, but the difference is that we got ourselves here. You can't blame cancer on eating too much or eating the wrong things. All it takes is for someone to look at us, and our diagnosis is plastered all over our body. I commend the poster for telling others her story of survival, it's truly remarkable to hear of people surviving cancer.
  4. I'm 2 days post-op and haven't gotten back to work yet, but people noticed I was losing weight on the pre-op diet. I'm a nurse, and I'll be honest in saying there's a large majority of overweight and obese nurses on my unit, but there are a few skinny minnies too. After I revealed my plans for the sleeve, 3 others revealed that they were in the insurance requirements stage. In addition to those, 3 others are now asking questions. When I told my managers, their response was, "Good for you for taking care of yourself....and when can we expect you back?" I probably could've been admitting to doing coke lines and going to rehab, and all they would want to know is when am I coming back. A lot of times, people just want to know that you're losing weight to get healthy. Everytime we see a dramatic weight loss, we think cancer, but that's just how people are in healthcare. Good Luck on your weight loss.
  5. I had the same problem after having my gallbladder removed. It was just like clock work, I had to go 20 minutes after eating. It finally stopped after 3 years.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I was sleeved yesterday, and I'm packing up to go home from the hospital. Yesterday was not a good day for me, at all. I spent majority of the evening vomiting mucous and dried blood. I was miserable, and my blood pressure shot up into the 200s systolic. They've given me 3 doses of b/p meds to get me back into a safe zone to go home. I had the sleeve, along with a hernia repair, and I must say that this recovery has been way worse than my last two laparoscopic surgeries. The good thing is that my blood glucoses are normal, AFTER 1 DAY, so I'm going home without the Metformin, but with an additional one for my b/p. I'm happy I did it, and it's only a matter of time before I'm off the b/p meds. Getting and staying healthy is my new priority.
  7. Well, I knew I would be up all night. Even after doing house work, putting a bookcase together, and packing my bag, I'm still up. I work nights as a nurse, so I knew this could be a problem. I hate that I'll probably sleep all day tomorrow, when I'll need to be up walking to get rid of the gas. I guess I'll take a long, hot bath. I still need to shave my legs and all the "hot spots", then I may as well get dressed. I have to be at the hospital for 5:30am, so it's no point in trying to lay down now. I keep asking myself if I'm nervous, but I'm not. I think by the time 7:30 comes, I may be a bit anxious. Wish me luck, everybody.
  8. My heart goes out to you, for your pain, suffering, and the emotional turmoil all of this has brought on. I'm a nurse too, and I'm glad you had a patient advocate in anyone who would listen, and grateful that your PCP took your concerns seriously. I know I've been guilty sometimes, thinking that a patient is over reacting, and not in need. Thank you for reminding us healthcare givers to never discount someone's suffering and to simply listen first, before making judgement. God bless you in your recovery.

    Gallbladder :-(

So sorry to hear you're having so many problems. I hope you feel a lot better after getting those stones out. So you're having an ERCP?

    Gallbladder :-(

See if someone will order a gallbladder ultrasound for you. It's the cheapest way to determine if you have gallbladder problems.
  12. Did anyone sleep last night? I got about 45 minutes, after a horrible shaving debacle.

    Common Practice?

Like everyone else has said, "Call your insurance company!!!!" The cost of $22,000 may not be the contracted price agreed upon by your insurance company and your surgeon. You're responsible for 20% of the contracted price. Your insurance can tell you how much you've met of your deductible, OOP, and what 20% of the contracted price is. Unfortunately, there's no way to get past that binder fee, those things aren't usually covered under insurance, but may still be tax deductible. Good Luck!
  17. I went to my absolute fave place to eat, Panera Bread, and I passed all the delish breads and pastries without even considering getting something. I ordered the chicken noodle and only drank the broth (I'm on my pre-op liquid diet) and got water instead of my signature iced green tea. This is a huge accomplishment for me, because I used to have a toasted cinnamon crunch bagel every morning after work with an iced green tea, of course. While I haven't been perfect on the pre-op diet, I did start back at the gym after 3 years of not doing a single thing. I lost 11 pounds the first week. Surgery on Tuesday!!!!'

Pre Op Diet Ticking Me Off.

I broke down early on in the pre-op diet. It was more panic driven, than an actual craving. I haven't had any more relapses and I think I'll be fine, as long as I don't think about not being able to stuff myself ever again. That seems to make me panic.

    Body Aches And Constipation

I've experienced the same symptoms, and the only thing that has helped has been working out at the gym. I notice on days that I work out, I don't feel it so much. Of course, water helps with the constipation. Good Luck!

    No Turning Back Now...

I have Cigna, my paperwork was submitted on Wednesday, I called Cigna on Thursday to follow-up, and my approval letter came in the following Tuesday. They've had some recent changes to expedite their approval process. I would call Cigna tomorrow, to make sure they received and accepted the documents. I've heard that they won't accept them if something is missing, and it's an automatic denial.
