I hope everything is okay with your band. I'd hate to see you start having complications after you've come so far. Keep me posted. -
Yeah, I agree with the exercising. I exercise 4 nights a week after my kids go to bed and I think that makes a huge difference.

I'm still doing great! Not too much longer now!!! :wink2:

Hi, and welcome! I wanted to reply to your post because Dr. R did my band. I am very satisfied with my weight loss so I think you'll be fine with how he does your fills. I have averaged 1.2 pounds a week since I was banded last year and I have only thrown up 2 times since I've had my band. Slippage is suspected to be caused by overaggressive fills and spitting up too much, so I feel very lucky that he gradually took me to where I needed to be. At the time I had my surgery, he only had 3 cases of slippage in his whole career. At my last fill I asked the nurse if I ever needed to be x-rayed and checked since I had been banded for over a year because I didn't know anything about slippage at the time and was worried about it. Not realizing that I knew Dr. R and Dr. Tull used to work together, she made the mistake of saying that the other Dr. that used to work with Dr. R had cases of slippage on a regular basis and not to worry about my band because Dr. R is careful how he places it and careful of how he does fills. So, that made me feel really great about having Dr. R as my doc. I hope you have better luck this time. If you live close to Champaign, join Terry and I for lunch sometime. We meet once a month! Terry, You're probably wondering why I'm ignoring you. You called me Sunday and told me you were getting sick. Honey, you have no idea. I woke up at 5 a.m. on Monday morning with a stomach pain. I thought, no big deal. I'll have some diarrhea and actually not be constipated for once. Not! I spend the rest of the day until 4 p.m. sitting on the pot with my face in the garbage can doing both at once! TMI I know, but had to share. So, I had to stay home from work Tuesday as well because I was still really messed up with a fever until early that morning, and ended up having my 3 year old at home with me sick too. He fortunately didn't have the pukes and poops. Completely different for him. High fever, cough and snotty nose. Lovely. I had volunteered at the local YMCA for healthy kids day on Saturday and was around 150 children and their parents. It is not a surprise that I ended up sick I suppose. So, I'm back at work today and feeling much better. Lunch will have to wait until you return from your trip. Have a good time!!! -

Hey Terry! I appreciate the low carb approach as that is how I lost weight pre-lap band (Atkins), but I really got the band so I could start enjoying all foods in reasonable portions. I don't like to feel deprived of "taboo foods" as I do on Atkins. I personally think all things are okay in moderation. I enjoy eating whatever I want in small amounts and having so many choices. The lap-band is a dream come true for me just for that reason. I'd love to meet for lunch soon. How about next week sometime? We could go to Za's since you are doing low carb. They have great salads. Any day will work for me. You? -
Is it me or does it not seem to matter how good of restriction you have because when you get your period all bets are off and you can still eat like a horse? Mine are terrible. About 5 days before my period I become ravenous and can eat just as if I never had lap band surgery at all. This is coming from someone who only has about 20 pounds to goal and has 3.6 cc's in a 4 cc band. It mesmerizes me. Today alone I've had my protein shake, a snack, mexican food for lunch and now I am eating sweets because I ABSOLUTELY have to have sweets during this time. They medicate me somehow. I just wondered if this is an experience anyone has.
-
You know, now that I think about it, I'm probably tight during my actual period. But...leading up to it, like the 5 days before it, just put my face in a plate of food and I'm happy.

Terry, So glad you hit the sweet spot. I know you were getting frustrated and I can't say I blame you. My loss is slowing down significantly. Not that I'm surprised since I'm 22 lbs from goal. It doesn't help that my period is forcing me to eat Mike Sell's Puffcorn Delites whenever the craving strikes. Have you had those little buggers yet? Don't get started because I'm sure they are more addictive than crack. Oh, well. I'll just have to sweat more to counteract the effect of the sinister puffs. -

I can't believe you were just getting an unfill and I had a fill at noon! Crazy. I'm sorry you had to be unfilled again. I'm up to 3.6 cc's as of today, so we'll see how I do with that. I will see you tomorrow at noon at Panera on Kirby. Take care. Kelly -

I would love to meet with you guys but weekends are terrible for me because of my little kids. I have zero time with them on the weekday since I don't pick them up from daycare/school until after 5. Saturdays are our family day. I'm really sorry. -

I am from Champaign so I had my surgery right here. We usually meet somewhere with a broad menu like Panera so you can have soup, salad, whatever goes down good for your band! It would be somewhat of a drive for you, but like I said, we would love for you to make it sometime. We just chit chat and catch up on how each other is doing. Keep us posted with your journey and we will post when we are going to get together so you can see if you can make it! Take care! Kelly -

Welcome to our thread! It's great to have new folks! I have some advice for you since you are open to it. My advice is to pick and choose wisely about which advice to listen to.:tt2: Sounds vague, right? I have found while looking at many of these threads that some people are very poorly informed about what is and isn't healthy, but they are die hard on telling poor unsuspecting people everything they think they know until they scare the you know what out of them and have them questioning themselves about everything they do after they get banded. I've read of people eating as little as 500 to 600 calories, eating no carbs ever, exercising 2 hours a day, blah blah blah. It would make me squirm just reading the posts because I can only imagine what condition those folks metabolisms are in. The lap band was not designed for self-starvation. If we wanted to starve, we'd have had gastric bypass surgery. So, I think that is the most important piece of advice I could give you is not to doubt yourself and beat yourself up for eating normal amounts of food and exercising normal amounts of time because someone else tells you that you aren't doing it right. On a more positive note, I'm so excited that you are making the journey with the rest of us. Mine has been very rewarding and Dr. R is a wonderful surgeon. Just so you know, Terry and myself like to get together for lunch once in awhile for lunch and if you are close by, we'd love to have you. Good luck to you!!! -
I SWEAR I am doing things right and I am not losing weight...WHAT GIVES?
simmons775 replied to cookielover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I second that, Amy. I agree with almost nothing I have read. I have been dealing with nutritional information since I was a little girl and I feel like some of the worst information I have heard is cutting calories below 1000. You body doesn't like to starve. It likes energy. I think your portions are great and your choices aren't unreasonable. You just need to give it time and it sounds like you are doing just so. Good luck. -

Amy I know you have heard this before, but really, try not to get discouraged. I started working out 5 times a week for 1 hour at the beginning of November. If you click on my ticker and look at my weight chart, you will see I lost almost no weight for a long time and I know there were weeks I gained and just didn't report it. Muscle weighs more than fat, but it takes up less space. So, you may gain a little weight for awhile, but you will look leaner and feel stronger. When you build up a good muscle base, after about 3 or 4 months, you will burn calories much more efficiently. Muscle burns waaaay more calories than fat so when you are sitting on the couch doing nothing on a rainy day, you will feel better knowing that your body is still burning fat because it needs to do it to feed the new muscles you have developed. Hang in there. It was hard for me to make the transition as well. Now, I am thrilled with how my body is taking shape. It is still a major work in process, but I actually have muscle definition in certain areas and my stamina has increased tenfold. It will happen for you too. Kelly -

I had a great time too! Thanks for the compliments! It makes the hard work worth it! I reached my 1 year bandiversary goal 5 days early! When I woke up Saturday morning and weighed, I was down to 168 which is exactly 60 pounds for my first year. I'm so excited. Talk to you soon! Kelly -

Terry, I'm feeling indecisive. What do you think of going to El Toro for mexican food instead. It is also on Springfield Ave about 2 blocks west of Za's. Let me know what you think. Za's is fine if you don't get the message in time. I'm just having one of those indecisive craving moments.
