Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?
JenniJune replied to w2ben's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in between Wichita Falls and Denton. Traveling to Plano to have it done by Dr. Frank Veninga (he did my mom's lap-band 7 years ago). Don't have a date yet, but expecting to have one soon! -
My Psychological Evaluation
JenniJune replied to Half~of~Bri's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The psychologist I saw was a specialist in bariatric psychology - in other words, he worked directly with a bariatric surgeon. Honestly, all we talked about was the psychology behind the sleeve - how I felt about certain aspects of it (like the fact that I will only be able to enjoy around 7 bites of food). We didn't really discuss any past problems to be honest . . . hmm . . . should I be concerned about that? -
Beans, tofu, soy milk, and almond milk all are very high in protein. If you stick with strict label reading, and maybe adding in a few extra scoops of protein powder into a soup or bowl of beans, there should be no reason why a vegan can't be successful on the sleeve.

Don't Want To Tell Anyone I'm Having The Surgery
JenniJune replied to buffalogal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kinda have mixed views on this one. On the one hand, I understand your reasoning behind it, but on the other . . . well, i know if it were MY mother i would want to know regardless. KWIM? Yes, it is absolutely your business and really you should tell who your comfortable with telling, but please don't sell your kids short. They may get very upset that you didn't say anything. As for me, I've told EVERYONE - but then I'm kind of a loudmouth open book, LOL. Good luck to you! -
This Might Be Inappropriate!

Loving this thread (it's the perv in me, lol!). A good friend of mine had the Rou en Y and lost 150 lbs - she told me her ... Uh ... Area looked like a 100 year old Shar Pei, LOL! But she lost all that FAST ... IDK if that makes a difference or not, though! -
What To Do While Waiting On Approval?
JenniJune posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there a thread for this? I did a search and didn't find anything. What are some good things to do while you're waiting on approval from the insurance company? What have some of you done? Right now I'm trying to practice the whole "no drinking while you eat" rule and to eat my Protein first. Any other ideas? I KNOW I'm going to be approved, it's just a matter of how long it takes! Thanks everyone! -

12 Year Old Gastric Sleeve Patient
JenniJune replied to Pookeyism's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My niece and nephew are both morbidly obese. My niece is ten and 165 lbs and my nephew is 13 and over 200. What makes me sad is not a child having the surgery, but the fact that a child would HAVE to have it. It is such a testimony on how our society treats food and nutrition. -
Not Sure What Is Okay To Post
JenniJune replied to CantBelieve_IdidIit!'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome to the world of online forums, LOL. Anywhere you go you will find people that make rude and ugly comments - you just have to ignore those and focus on the responses that are actually helpful :-) Good luck! -
I love to cook, and have found some great recipes in the Hungry Girl cookbooks. Also try doing a google search for "Bariatric Cooking" or "gastric sleeve recipes" : there is a wealth of info!

Love this word, teehee! I love meatloaf, and this recipe sounds awesome. I too use ground turkey. I haven't used ground beef in YEARS!

My best friend is trying to be supportive, but often makes the backhanded comments too "Sure I'm overweight, but I'M happy with how I look" and stuff like that. Our friendship has revolved around food, so I'm sure it's from the fear of not having that crutch to lean on anymore. She even told me that I was talking too much about it and I should shut up. I'm chalking it up to fear and jealousy.

What Method Of Birth Control Did You Use?
JenniJune replied to justmeandmysleeve's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have the Mirena IUD and love it. Antibiotics don't affect it and you can take it out before the five years if you want to try for a baby later. Alternatively you could just use condoms. -
Had my nutritional counseling today! Now it's time to wait. The nurse told me 4-6 weeks for approval!! Agh! I really hope it doesn't take that long, but then it'll make me that much more thankful once it happens! I did get lots of amazing information today, though.

Today Is My Surgery!
JenniJune replied to Ready for the new Lay-Lay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
God is SO good!! Praying that it all goes well! Keep us posted! Blessings! -
I sell Mary Kay and we have a firming lotion that I'm going to be using - kind of an experiment, if you will, lol. Also, my psychologist said that loose skin can be lessened greatly by doing a good fat burning regimine (3 days cardio, 3 days light weights). So doing both should help a lot!

Does Removing The Drain Hurt
JenniJune replied to aouzenian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

My response to "easy way out" is this: Undergoing major surgery, spending the rest of my life eating under 1000 calories a day, and STILL having to diet and exercise is easy?? I'd hate to see the hard way!! In all seriousness, I've actually been pretty blessed with the support I've gotten. But there will always be ignorant haters out there. You're going to be healthy, and if they don't understand that, well, brush 'em off!

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a drain? -
Hello :) (New Member)
JenniJune replied to lovealways's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am on United, and as far as I know all their plans require 40 bmi or 35 with complications, 5 years of weight records, a nutritionist consult and a psychological evaluation. The community plan may vary slightly, but I think they're all pretty much the same across the board. Good luck! -
Praying for you, sweetie!! I pray they find out what's going on soon. Blessings!

I am LOL-ing over the "sharts"! Thanks for this thread- I am so thankful to hear EVERY aspect of the surgery: the good, the bad, and the...er...poopy!
