    General Funk

Did not see you say anything about exercis...I know when I am in a funk, a good workout helps...the days when I realllllllllllly don't want to do anything are the best days for it...after words it is so revitalizing!! surgery date: 10/12/12

At 8 Months Out I Ate...

i feel the exact same way...sometimes I feel "guilty" or that I am "doing it wrong"... our docs assured us at our last support group meeting that you would have to really over eat for an extended perior of time (implied years) for us to expand our sleeves to the point thats "not good"...I think as long as your eating the right foods, getting your Protein, excercising, and losing (or maintaining depending on your case) then you are doing "it" right!!

    Confession

Proceed with CAUTION...I would follow the advice of your doc and NUT as much as possible...you are only 23 days out of surgery...i wouldn't worry about stalls, I weigh once a week and take what I get, stick to the plan, all will work out in the end!! Congrats, sounds like your doing well... surgery date: Oct 12, 2012

    A Litte Discouraged...

I am sure that most if not all have gone through what you are going through... My routine now is to weigh every monday morning...today I had a 3lb lost, last week it was 1.5...but I am not fretting...I recall getting frustrated when I couldnt budge off of 286...very frustrating...that was over 40lbs ago...it will happen!! Just stay true to the game plan!! surgery date Oct 12, 2012

    Moving Too Fast? Who Knows?

I don't think anyone will judge you here... CONGRATS on you lose!! I was kinda the same way, no real "restriction" as far as what i could eat, only the amount...the BIG diff is that I (like most) had a fairly strict routine following surgery and "graduated" from liquid to mushy to soft to solid after each follow up...back on real food after about 4-6 weeks from surger...all for safety reasons and to not push your new tummy too far to fast and allow your body to heal... All that being said, like I have said here before, this surgery does not change a person, we all (most) have the ability to eat what we want...but that is not necessarily a good thing, we must still make the "right" choices in life and balance ourselves...after all, it was our "imbalance" that got us here in the first place!! I have also been cross fitting...man I am sore today!! Good luck!!
  10. exact same pain...hated it...thought I had made a tremendous mistake by going through with the surgery...then my VSG "big Brother" assured me it was part of the process and it would get better...and he was right!!!
  11. gatorade G2 has been good for me...

    Bowel Movements

Yep, totally "normal"...but you will prolly find a need for a stool softner, at least I did...but i was getting to the point of taking in plenty-o-reading material cuz i was going to be in the "office" for some time!!!! Doc finally put me on Mirolax...that stuff is great..I add a scoop to my Protein drink in the morning and its smooooooooth sailing from there!! surgery date: 12 oct 2011
  13. I remember the nuts and or bariatric techs saying not coffee/caffeine...I think the main reason was cuz its a diaretic and will dehydrate you... Has anyone had any experience with coffee/caffeine intake. I laid off for about the first 2 months but have started to have an occasional cup of java!! It is soooooooo hard to avoid on these crisp mornings!!
  14. My doc was definitely the rebel of the group...i didn't have to crush my meds or do a leak test, or have a drain put in...he was awesome... But you are correct, there are many, many, different "opinions" when it comes to the WLS "rulz"...

Why Don't I See It Yet?

funny, I felt the same way...i even hung up a pair of old jeans as a "target" to tell when my clothes were fitting better...i ended up overshooting my target, and had to finally break down and buy a new pair of jeans!! it happens!! just keep plugging away, at least thats what I am trying to do!! CONGRATS on your progress!! surgery date: Oct 12, 2011

    When To Begin Exercise?

when the doc says you can!! other than that its walk, walk, walk...don't be too anxious to get going...

Exercise What Kind Do You Do?

started walking, then walk jog...up to 3 mile jog now, try and do twice a week mixed in with elipitical for 40-45 min twice a week and bike on the weekend. Went for a 36 mi ride last sunday...whew! my personal longest!!! the best part is that it was after my wifes christmas party, which in the past, I prolly would have had a few too many drinks and appetizers and slept in all day. Now I was soooooo looking forward to the bike ride...funny how your life changes...

    Drinking

Felt the exact same way, felt like I could "gulp" earlier than I thought, maybe 4 weeks post op...but maybe gulp isnt the write word...I would (and do now), take a big drink swallow, take another big drink and then swallow in increments (prolly 3 swallows)...but I have felt from early on that I was able to drink much easier than "advertised". I asked my nurse (also post op) and she said it was all ok, your body will give you the best feed back if your doing something wrong...

    Weight Loss Rewards

I told my wife I was going to buy a new car when I lost 100lbs...which I don't really "need" nor can I really afford...my car is only going to be 22 yrs old this Dec 29...so its still has a lot of life left in it... Perhaps a new bike??? :-) surgery date: Oct 12, 2011
  20. Nope...all "liquid" for me...plus stuff like sugar free pudding, Jello and carb control yogurts...my doc was pretty strict about the diets...the 2 week (10 days for me :-)....) wasn't as hard as i thought it was gonna be...the 2 week liquid after was harder than I thought...but it goes by pretty quick and post surgery your not exactly "chomping at the bit" to eat much anyway... Good Luck!!! surgery date: Oct 12, 11
  21. I was very fortunate that my PCP is the one that brought it up, I had not really seriously considered it an option (for whatever reason), but he got the ball rolling... One thing I have decided about a year ago is that I was not going to hold ANYTHING back from my PCP...they are there FOR YOU!!! If you feel they are not, then its time to find a new PCP...

Also try different proteing drinks and see what you like...I have a sugar free carnation instant Breakfast each morning with a scoop of chocolate Protein powder and 16 oz of skim milk... Also don't forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!! surgery date: oct 12, 11
