Question To Old Timers
O.T.R. sleever replied to vnjones's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
All the reasoning and advice you are seeing above is great. I'd also like to add that the people you are seeing with the big numbers being posted also had much higher start weights/BMI. I'm not sure what your goal is, but, I'm looking at 178 after 3months thinking that you really are probably right on track As far as the snacking, I'd just plan it out, it's actually best for your body to eat very small amounts throughout the day. So what I would do is measure out snacks to be eaten through ought the day & plan them every 2 hrs or so instead of eating them as a meal. Your primary concern is your total daily consumption. Snacking is completely fine as long as it is planned into your diet. Own your habits -

Sliming Question?
O.T.R. sleever replied to vickyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always thought sliming was when you produced excessive amounts of very thick saliva (the body trying to lubricate & digest the food you just ate) resulting in a mucusy saliva (slime) being forced back up. -
First Time Drinking Alcohol Post Op
O.T.R. sleever replied to learning to fly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am of German descent, and in my opinion, we here in America are doing a huge disservice to our children by "protecting" them from alcohol. I was given small amounts of beer in my bottle as a baby. And as I grew I was never refused alcoholic beverages, they were limited, just as any responsible parent would with sodas. Now the argument can be made on both sides about health advantages/disadvantages. But where I saw the biggest difference was in my late teens & early twenties when all my friends were out getting sloshed, alcohol really wasn't that big of a deal to me, because I had access to it and was taught moderation with it my entire life. -

Leavin' On A Jet Plane
O.T.R. sleever replied to kaeannpark's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be able to carry protien shakes on the plane with you, even if they are premixed. It falls under "medical necessity". I would advise calling the TSA perforce hand, they will email you a copy of the regulations that cover this. And they can also advise you on how to package and label it. If you decide to go with powders then it's even easier. You can just buy bottled Water or milk inside the terminal -
Be careful with those shots, look at the ingredients. If it says collagen, it's a waste of money, your body can't digest it. DO NOT pay attention to the name of the shot. Many companies use misleading names to sell garbage. New Whey Protien is one of the big offenders today. They are mostly collagen.

At 18 days pre-op when that comment was posted I don't think that a little sugar in a drink was going to derail anything. But, yes Gatorade does have considerably more sugar than we need to have post-op. which is why I stated that the G2 was a better option.

As I'm sure you see, every Dr. is different. The right diet for you is the one YOUR Dr. or NUT prescribes.

Sweet Tea 6 Weeks Out?
O.T.R. sleever replied to bethnc1970's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this really depends on what you mean "by sweet tea" To me sweet tea is 1 gallon of tea & 3/4cup of sugar. To other people in my family it's more like 1gallon of tea & 1/2lb of sugar. Lightly sweetened tea probably won't hurt anything in moderation. However if "southern style" is your preference then you probably need the artificial sweeteners. -

I'm No Longer Banded!
O.T.R. sleever replied to timetobefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is just a shot in the dark. But I think it mammy be because subconsciously we know that the only reason that our stomachs are as big as they are/were is because of our lack of control. Therefore It becomes much easier to rationalize correcting a problem that was in reality our own making. -
Dr. Kelly's Patients - Important!
O.T.R. sleever replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've been going to Mexico since I was 15. I spent my teens & early to mid 20's in El Paso. I have all my dental work done in Juarez, Mexico. I've been to Mexico no less than 1000 times. I can tell you from first hand experience, the violence that you hear so much about is almost all sensationalism by our media. Yes, there is violence in Mexico, but really it's safer than Chicago, Houston, New York, Miami, and a host of other American cities that have known "bad areas". But yet we don't avoid visiting these cities. We simply make sure that when we do we avoid the "bad" part of town. -

Eating Slowwwwwwwwwly... Ugh!
O.T.R. sleever replied to TinaMari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The answer is.......... Never....... Actually this is the way we should have been eating all along. Eating fast , not thoroughly chewing are bad habits that we developed. Although I can say I'm getting use to it I can see eating fast is reinforced @ restaurants by keeping the temps low(this also triggers the body to what more food). I just amazes me that we as a society support bad habits this way.
