If you are using whey protien, the protien is not the culprit. I also suffer from gout, Unfortunately, it is an effect that comes from rapid weight loss. It triggers a gout attack. You can get tart Cherry juice at your local health food store, it will help, but remember it is high in sugar so, don't drink a lot at one time. Also you can get a Uric Aid cleanse in capsulet form. The good news here is, with our new lifestyle and eating habits, once you flush the excess Uric acid from your system gout should just be a bad memory. Edit: just notice you are pre op, disregard the statement about limiting the cherry juice, and if you are getting protien from red meat that can definately be a contributing factor. But, whey contains no Uric acid. Also, are you a drinker, because drinking alcohol also contributes to gout.

Muscle Milk

I'm seeing a lot more posting about the bodies ability to absorb protien. I am really glad to see people becoming more aware of this. Keep in mind that it is not a hard set number, it's a range. The range is 20-27g, with most women coming in closer to the 20g mark & men being closer to the 27g mark. Also the protien amino structure & digest ability play a huge role in this too. -
Traveling Post-Vsg And Managing Protein Needs
O.T.R. sleever replied to Amanda 3.0's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kinda not really fitting with this topic, but, did you know that Pop-Tarts are illegal to sell in GB? Kinda crazy I thought. How bad is a food to be banned by a government? -
I never noticed, but then again, I believe in cranking up the weed wacker on a regular basis.

The unfortunate fact is that rapid weight loss does throw our bodies chemical balance off & will cause most of us to be more defensive, and apprehensive than we would usually be. Some dissent & debate is just to be expected & is healthy. I do agree that it does go to far sometimes. But that in my opinion, is the exception, not the rule. Also, since many of us are a bit more edgy than we typically are & the fact that most everyone on this forum has been there. I think it is easier to forgive a harsh comment or two. Everybody has a bad day now & then.

Pre Op Nerves :-/
O.T.R. sleever replied to jasmineb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, completely normal. Pretty much everybody goes through it. As far as controlling them, you can't. But what you can do is keep reading, you are about to be bombarded with people telling you how normal this is. This will help you accept te emotions and know that you are not alone. -

Muscle Milk
O.T.R. sleever replied to phillygirl8133's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
600 is a bit on the low side, but not far off what most are saying. It could be that Carrie is short, and therefore naturally burns less calories in a day. The range I'm seeing is 600-800 for most women & 800-1000 for men, and that usually increases a little after a few months. -

Thoughts On Unjury?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Sherry77's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Unflavored Unjury has a slight milk flavor, kinda like if you mixed 1part skim milk with 2parts water. It's great for mixing into stuff that have milk products in it. But I wouldn't recommend adding it to crystal light, G2, or anything of that nature. -
Is The Band That Bad?
O.T.R. sleever replied to SleeveandRNYchica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sleeve has actually been around much longer than the lap band. It used at least as far back as the 1970's as a first step for RNY candidates that were too heavy to safely receive the full surgery. It's been done abroad as a stand alone surgery for quite some time. Unfortunately it is only recently that the U.S. has chosen to recognize it as a stand alone surgery. If you research early RNY you'll find several patients that after the first step(the sleeve) was so successful, they opted to not go through with the rest of the procedure. -

I Just Messed Up I Had Peanuts
O.T.R. sleever replied to Pparrisss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You had a moment of weakness and did something that you shouldn't have done. I think this means that you might just be human. Now that you've fallen the next step is to get up, brush yourself off, and get back on that horse. To answer "who does that?". Almost all of us. The trick is to get up and do better next time. You've got a big cheering section here. Don't hesitate to come to us when you are tempted. We may not always have the answers, but we all have been there, and will do our best. Now saddle up and try again. -
Actually, having your sleep apnea treated is a really good thing. It will make your healing easier. And really it shouldn't affect your surgery date negatively. It almost always helps with insurance approval.

They're usually in the produce section.

As far as the sleeve being for high BMI patients. That is an old philosophy. The sleeve originally started as a precursor to RNY. They would take a patient that had BMI too high to safely perform an RNY and give them a sleeve to start the process, then later convert the sleeve to an RNY after their BMI came down. However the sleeve by itself has been so successful that many people never went through with the final step. In the last few years the sleeve has been increasing in popularity and is quickly becoming the WLS of choice due it's effectiveness & dramatically lower risk of complications Now with all that being said, this is NOT the magic surgery that will fix it all for you. It is gonna require that you are ready for a new lifestyle. If you are not ready for permanent change, don't do it. You will hate it. This goes for any WLS. If you are ready and understand the commitment this takes to work, I say go for it. I <3 my sleeve.

When To Weigh, Measure And How To...?
O.T.R. sleever replied to TracyLynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you hang around there is a thread called "Super Saturday Weigh In". Several of us on here weigh in every Saturday morning and post our results. It's a great way to keep it consistent, and it's nice to see the same ppl every week. I think pics at 1mo,3mo,6mo,and then every 6 mo after would be great And yes, measurements is a much more accurate way to track fat loss. -
