Lap Band The Right Choice?
O.T.R. sleever replied to xxoxoheatheroxox's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a sleever, and to be honest, it utterly amazes me what many so called professionals think they know about WLS. There are so many misconceptions about each of these surgeries that I wouldn't personally believe anything anybody says that hasn't experienced it themselves. And even then I would get multiple opinions from multiple sources. My recommendation is to write down your goals, and what you are willing to do to accomplish them. If you feel that you are willing to put forth the effort and have the stamina to see it through, I don't see why the band wouldn't be a good idea for you. Me personally, whe fills that are required with the band were going to be problematic, and I was afraid of what might happen if I didn't maintain them properly. So I opted for the sleeve. My fears may have been totally unjustified, we'll never know. But I can say I made the right decision for me. Just as you must do for you. -
Tijuana Doctors - Input?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Bufflehead's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'll throw my 2 cents in for Dr. Ponce de Leon. You have your choice of facilities with him. He prefers to work out of the INT hospital which is a smaller hospital on par with Mi Doctor. But if you feel you need a bigger hospital to make you feel comfortable, he also offers service at Angeles Hospital. The hospital fees are considerably higher at Angeles so that will affect his fee. -

Syntrax has a few good flavors in their nectar line. They got some nasty ones too. I'd recommend calling Syntrax direct, they have a sampler pack that they offer as a 1 time purchaced for new customers -
Can You Join The Military After Surgery?
O.T.R. sleever replied to nyxa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No mater what M.O.S. a soldier chooses, he/she is first and foremost a soldier. Soldiers are exposed to a number of situations that keep you from eating for many hours and possibly days at a time. When you do get to eat you may not have much time to do so. Therefore a WLS patient is a less than ideal candidate for the US armed services. That being said I think a strong case could be made for someone who has been sleeved as opposed to an RNY. With liquid Meal Replacements a sleeve patient could conceivably get the nourishment he/she needs. I wouldnt give up. Get all the facts together, and make your case. This may be your opportunity to make history. You may be the one to get the ball rolling on a DoD policy modification. -
Phew!!!!! I thought this was another of "those" threads.

Thoughts On Unjury?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Sherry77's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My opinion, unflavored is only good to mix into yogurt, creamy Soups, & other milk based products. I've also used it to cut the strawberry, as I found it too sweet. -
Yes, I like the chocolate & the banana. The banana tastes like banana pudding. They are a bit high on calories, but that is because they are not just a Protein Drink, they are a high protein Meal Replacement.

Q About Plication
O.T.R. sleever replied to theosmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a self pay. You'll likely have no problems getting it done. -
As a sleever myself, I think you would be making a great choice. I highly recommend logging into Vertical Sleeve Talk, it is run by the same people that run this forum. You can log in with the same acct you have here , we have a whole forum dedicated to Band to Sleeve Revision. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at how many people there are that have been right where you are at now. Here is a link to a recent thread on the topic http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/49125-has-anyone-who-failed-with-the-band-succeeded-with-sleeve/

Would you feel as though you were lied to if you were the one asking the question? I think when you answer that question, you will have your answer to yours.

Unfortunately crossover addiction happens in most cases. It is the unfortunate consequence of an addictive personality. The good thig is that you can also choose to be "addicted" to something productive in your life.

I'd say that depends on your individual strength level & tolerance to pain. I know personally if I were to have had my surgery on Monday, I would have been fine to be beside my wife through almost anything by Wednesday or Thursday. Since they are presuming that it is not cancer if I could finagle the schedules I'd go through with it. If your surgery is within 2 days of her appointment, I think I'd talk to the surgeon and see if anybody the following week wanted to swap.

Also, Sam's Club has 5hr energy for $36/24pk. I buy it that way because it breaks down to $1.50 each. A box could last me about 6 months though. -

Has Anyone Been Sleeved Twice?
O.T.R. sleever replied to tbooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Though I wasn't there, I am relatively positive there was a bougie used in your surgery. I havent yet heard of a surgeon that dosent use them. -
I really hope not, his parents live a few miles from me, and one of his brothers is a R/E agent here. This whole town goes stupid anytime there is a chance of them visiting.

Mix chia seeds into it. Be careful, not too many. They do swell.

Has Anyone Been Sleeved Twice?
O.T.R. sleever replied to tbooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, my surgeon does "resleeves". Usually it's due to a surgery that was just not done properly, however, this does not appear to be the case in your situation. At this point I'd say don't fret too much about the difference. I'm assuming that even though the results were less than ideal, he wouldn't have gone through with the surgery if he felt the change wouldn't be signifigant. -
