    Anyone Using Dr.ponce?

No, not off the top of my head. It's pretty straight forward. Trish does a really good job of preparing you. The only thing I can say that you'll have to do some work on the post-op diet. The one they give is pretty vague. It is a great guide, but that's about all I could use it for. You'll be able to find pretty much everything you need here. If you any questions, this is a great support group.
  2. Was trying to fill out my profile info and found Dr. jaime Ponce de leon in TJ MX is not listed. There is a Guillermo Ponce de Leon, and a Jaime Ponce but these are not him Thank you.

    Anyone Using Dr.ponce?

Yup, Dr. Ponce de Leon did me up on 5/23/12. I'm 3 months out now and loving it.

    Grocery List?

The only thing I'd buy much of is water. As far as protein drinks get a variety. You don't know yet what you will like or even what you will tolerate well, so don't go buying too much of anything. Also, when you are buying protein look at the ingredients. If it says collagen or gelatin don't buy it. FYI all protein shots sold in stores right now are garbage.

    Extream Post Op Diet ?

Isopure makes clear Protein drinks that are RTD. Honestly they taste like crap, but they fit the bill. Well, actually it wasn't even the taste that I didn't like, it was the dry mouth feeling they left.
  6. Ice cream is a slider. Probably could have eaten more. The only real concern is triggering a lactose intolerance. I doubt that will happen because of something this minor, and even if it does, it will most likely go away eventually.

The Stuff They Don't Tell You

Don't be scared, it does happen to most people, but it is temporary.

    Atkins Shakes

Unfortunately it's bad news for you Louise, Atkins gets its Protein from milk concentrate, soy, & gluten. Milk being the primary ingredient. Soy & gluten are both incomplete Proteins, but since neither are the primary I think that it is a reasonable option for most people.
  9. For the first week post-op I would have strangled a grizzly bear with my bare hands for a Five Guys burger. Since then I've had no major cravings.

Absolutely. Be as informed as you can be. Make the decision that you are most comfortable with.

    List Of Cons

can you deal with this one? It's the only one that is really true I'm 3 months out, and I can confidently say that nothing is permanently off the table except overindulging. I can also say post-op you will view food totally different than you do now. Now food is a treat, it's a comfort, it's fun. Post-op food is nourishment, it's even kind of a chore I equate it to fueling the car. I don't like doing it, but if I want to drive, I got to. There will be some cravings the first week or 2, but those are fairly easy to deal with, and they fade pretty quick. Don't sweat it. It's a good ride.

    Dr Aceves

When I was looking at him it was 8750, and it would take about 2 weeks to be scheduled in. But I'm sure his schedule is constantly changing.

    Atkins Shakes

I really had a time finding the ingredients for the Atkins lines. After reviewing them I would say if you just can't stomach whey, these would be a reasonably good alternative. I also learned of another shake today. It's Jay Robb, it is egg based and stacks up pretty well in Protein quality.

    Syntrax Matrix?

Whey Protein Isolate is the gold standard, but if it uses whey protein concentrate or even just regular whey protein it is still good and perfectly acceptable for our use. The only caveat being that if you are lactose intolerant stick to the isolate.
  15. All I will say is if your gonna cheat at least get the good stuff. You should have gotten a Haagen Däs bar.

    Protein Bars

Protein bars is one place where it's really easy to throw your diet out of wack. So for this reason I try to stay away from any protein bar that doesn't deliver 1gram of protein per 10 calories. Honestly, not many fit this criteria. The ones I use are Premier Nutrition, 280 calories 30g protein.
  17. Just think, here soon he'll walk in with that cheeseburger and all you'll be thinking is about how many empty carbs are in the bun & fries. Saying to yourself "I can't believe he's actually gonna put that garbage in his body". It's an amazing transformation. You'll never look at food the same way again.

  23. Researchers generally determine Protein quality by using the protein efficiency ratio (PER) or the protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS). They determine the PER by evaluating the weight gain in growing rats fed a particular protein compared with a standard protein, egg whites being the gold standard. The higher the PER value, the greater the protein quality. The PDCAAS was introduced as a more accurate way to evaluate protein quality for humans, because it uses human, not rat, amino acid requirements to calculate the amino acid score. It compares the amino acid profile of a protein with the essential amino acid requirements for humans according to The food and Agriculture Organization. When a protein meets this requirement, it gets a score of 1.0. PDCAAS has now been adopted as the official method by the World Health Organisation, the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture. Although the PDCAAS method is the internationally recognised standard for comparing Proteins for human consumption, it does not allow for differentiation among proteins with a PDCAAS of 1.0, so proteins can have different PERs while still having a PDCAAS of 1.0. This is significant, because researchers are now exploring how variances in specific essential and/or conditionally essential amino acids, as well as the availability of various peptides and micronutrients, affect human physiology. Claims of consumer-relevant superiority or inferiority, when performance of physique modificaitons are concerned, have yet to be supported by population-specific evidence in humans. Protein PCDAAS PER Gelatin/collagen 0.08. -- Beef/poultry/fish 0.80-0.92. 2.0-2.3 Soy 1.00. 1.8-2.3 Ovalbumin (egg) 1.00. 2.8 Milk protein 1.00. 2.8 Casein 1.00 2.9 whey 1.00. 3.0-3.2 Bovine colostrum. 1.00. 3.0-3.2 Table 1 Table 1 (above) lists the PER and/or PDCAAS for the major types of protein used in nutritional supplements. The following discusses the relative strengths and weaknesses of these basic types of proteins that are often used as starting materials for nutritional supplements. Of course, adding deficient amino acids and other nutrients to these proteins may increase the PDCAAS, nutrient value and/or functionality of the protein. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> As you can see above collagen/gelatin is nearly useless to the human body. This is what is in almost all protein shots. Always check the ingredients. Many makers of protien shots are giving them names that have Whey in their title but are still using collagen/gelatin as their primary protein source. Also keep in mind that ingredients on labels are listed in the order of amount used. So if collagen or Gelatin is listed first then it is the primary protein source for that product.

The New Whey Protein 3.8 Shoot

Yes, egg is a complete protein. It is not as good as Whey, but is still very good Since I'm guessing you've actually tried it, how does it taste? That might be a good alternative for those that can't stand the taste of whey.
