Discouraged...
O.T.R. sleever replied to gettinMeBack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just 12lb in 3weeks? That's still over .5lb per day. Even if you lost at 1/2 the rate you are you'd lose over 100lbs in a year. You are doing fine, How are you doing on your Water & Protein intake? And what's your daily caloric intake? These are the things you need to pay attention to. Forget the scale, there are way too many variables to pay attention to the scale. The level of hydration in your body can affect your weight by over 10lbs. BTW, how tall are you? -

What To Order?
O.T.R. sleever replied to chilihot59's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If this is an occasional thing, eat whatever you like, just stay away from stuff that will swell, as this would quite assuredly ruin your experience. If it were me, I'd be looking at the appetizer menu. Shrimp cocktail maybe or something small ala carte. You are not gonna be able to eat much, so if you order a full entree you will likely feel as though you've wasted money. -

Why, I Am Loosing So Little?
O.T.R. sleever replied to scorpion509's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We all seem to remember those who have astounding losses, probably because we're hoping that will be us. But, keep in mind, there are several people on this forum that did not show any loss at all for 2-3 weeks after surgery. Every bodies body reacts a bit different. You lost 5lbs in a week, I'd say that's damn good. Keep in mind, 2lb/week = 104lbs in 1 year. You are doing great. And this journey has just begun. Here is another thing to consider. Many people that show huge numbers early on also aren't meeting their water/ Protein requirements. So it is quite possible that someone that show that huge 10-15lb loss the first week could very well be dehydrated by a full gallon (8lbs) or even have lost some muscle mass or density(muscle burns fat, so this is a disadvantage to them). -
No, it will not stretch the sleeve, in fact, sleeve stretching is nearly impossible. The reason you don't want to "guzzle" water after surgery is because your stomach is swollen , irrataded, and healing. You will only be abe to ingest very small amounts. And since your sleeve will be basicly numb for a while you don't really want to put that kind of pressure on it After a couple months it is fine to "guzzle" a bottle of water if you so choose. Have you had a bad experience drinking water? I notice you are over 6 months post-op

Whooo Hooo!!!! You're gonna love Dr. Ponce de Leon. Btw, say hi to Trish for me;) -
Ummm, stretching your sleeve really is not a concern, in fact it's nearly impossible. But here is a video that illustrates why we don't drink while eating or soon after.

Is It My Imagination That The Mexico Sleevers Seem To Have Less Complications?
O.T.R. sleever replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I respectfully disagree. Yes, it is possible for anyone anywhere to have complications, but most reputable surgeons in Mexico go the extra mile to reduce the probability of complications. For example, over sewing The staple line is a redundancy that is not common practice in most American practices. Multiple leak tests over multiple days is another. Patients of Mexican surgeons will likely not have the same follow p treatment nor easy access to their surgeon once they go home, so extra precautions are taken to ensure the possibility of complications arising are minimized. Also the the short term care that you receive in Mexico is far superior to that provided here in the United States. -
That applies to all wls.

Can't Get Enough Water/protein In... Tips?
O.T.R. sleever replied to pandee04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are in the first couple weeks post- op forget the protein till you can get your fluids in. Protein is not a priority till you can get your fluids. After you can get your minimum liquid requirements then add as much protein as you can till you are meeting both minimum requirements. Protein is important, but dehydration can end you in the E.R. -
This isn't going to fix a lot but, try making ranch dip using a dry mix and Greek yogurt, then add a scoop of unflavored protein powder. Use that to dip fresh veggies in. 2 birds 1 stone.

Is It My Imagination That The Mexico Sleevers Seem To Have Less Complications?
O.T.R. sleever replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I went to Dr. Ponce de Leon and paid $5500. This included a night in the Lucerna hotel(and 2 in the hospital) I was offered an extra night if I wanted it. And if I chose to stay longer they would arrange for me to get their rate of $75/night. The Lucernas normal nightly rate is over $200. -
Was Protein The Enemy All Along?
O.T.R. sleever replied to kiwiladydee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before you order them check the ingredients. If it says Gelatin or collagen don't waste your money. The human body is incapable of using collagen/gelatin Proteins. Unfortunately every protein shot I've found except "yes whey" sources their protein from these useless products. -
Was Protein The Enemy All Along?
O.T.R. sleever replied to kiwiladydee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been lurking around here for a while now, but felt I might have something to offer here. Yes, you absolutely need Protein it's what fuels your body & it metabolizes slowly compared to carbs. But you don't have to get your protein from animals. There are several vegitarian/vegan protein options out there. The only caveat being that when dealing with vegetable protein you need to be carefully to get a full amino acid balance. Hemp protein is the only known plant protein that independently supports a complete ammino acid structure. Sun Warrior also makes a blend of plant Proteins that have all he amino acids your body needs. -
What shakes have you tried? What is it tat you don't like about them? Here are a few that I like. unjury -- I really like their chocolate Splendor & chicken Soup favors (they offer a sample pack so you can try all their flavors) Syntrax Nectar® -- these are thinner & fruitier flavors (they also offer a sample pack) Premier Protein -- these are convenient and are available at Sam's Club & costco Cytosport whey RTD -- these taste really good, and pack a wopping 32g of Protein in only 130 calories.

Looking For The Perfect Insurance Company:-)
O.T.R. sleever replied to sshaeshae19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The unfortunate reality is that you are not likely to find an insurance onthe open market that will pay for your surgery and if you do it will cost $1000/mo or more & have an 18-24 month waiting period before WLS is covered, or hey might have a huge deductable(10,000+). Insurance companies simply are not in business to lose money, & allowing someone to pay a few hundred dollars in premiums & covering a $10,000 elective surgery just doesn't make sense for them. My suggestion would be to pursue a job that has a group plan that covers it, or save up and consider Mexico or seek out self pay discounts.
