  1. Thinner Peace, When were you sleeved? I was told that when I am fully healed and all the swelling is gone my sleeve will be 8-10oz. No offense meant, your NUT is probably a great resource for knowing how to nourish your body properly with the restriction given, but he is wrong about stretching your sleeve by using a straw. Liquids are not affected by our restriction, and unless you found a way to suck a turkey through a straw, there is simply no way for a straw to cause your sleeve to stretch. Secondly you have to understand that your sleeve is not made out of the stretchy portion of the stomach like the pouch of an RNY patients is (this is where I think your NUTs misunderstanding is) instead it is the muscular portion of the stomach, not easy to stretch at all, yes, it can be done, but it takes a ton of abuse for this to happen.

    Tired Of Protein...any Suggestions!

What exactly are you tired of? Milk based proteins, or the concept of shakes? I like to mix hemp protein in 4oz of Naked® mango purée and blend with a few ice cubes. The mango flavor is strong enough that I use to mask almost anything. Unfortunately it's not very low calorie, but that's why I only use 4oz.
  3. Yup, eating for me has become a chore.
  4. Look at the ingredients. If it says collagen or Gelatin then it's useless.

    Um...gas Question...

Ha ha ha , well, for most people this unfortunately is true, however it is not caused by the surgery, it is caused by a change in our eating habits, more whole foods less preservatives and such. Have you ever been around when a vegan cuts one loose? Don't even get me started on milk farts. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is just part of breaking down healthy foods.

    First Time Post

Sleeve brother Kevin, Doesnt it feel great to watch that scale go down?? Believe me, progressing with your diet will not make it stop. The big trick is being aware of what you put in your body, and abstaining from garbage foods. How are you doing on your protein & water intake? Are you taking any sort of vitamins? If you are getting plenty of water/liquids(80-100oz/day or more) and plenty of protein(80g+) then I would definately recommend adding some mushies. Stuff like egg whites, low fat cottage cheese, refried beans and the like are going to be beneficial for you. The trick is to avoid the empty carbs & starches like, pasta, rice, breads, potatoes. Also try to avoid drinking calories as much as possible, your protein is an obvious exception to this but you can also focus on lower calorie protein shakes. I feel confident saying that you are going to be fine, the self control & dedication you are already showing says it all. Congrats on your surgery & your success thus far. And welcome to our little community.

  9. I don't really know about that one. There are tons of misconceptions out there about all WLS. I can say one of the defining facts of the sleeve is that it eliminates ghrelin. It is the only WLS that does this, and thus eliminates at least temporarily physical hunger. This is just speculation, but some sleever might be uncomfortable being associated with a surgery that is still considered experimental.
  10. Because your need for Protein is too high to waste space on veggies. I got around this by making ranch dip out of low fat Greek yogurt & adding more Protein powder to. It.
  11. Hope this helps. http://www.wls4betterlife.com/htmls/htmls/ponce_deleon.html#

    Stalling

Not sure what size glass you are using. Assuming 12oz. This translates to 60-72oz. That prettymuch reaches your minimum requirement. Also the soup counts toward water intake too. You should work on increasing your protein. 60g would be an ok low number

    Soy Protein Vs Whey Protein?

Soy falls into the better than nothing category. Soy has an incomplete amino acid structure and contains estrogen. Your body is already being bombarded with estrogen being released from fat stores. If you are looking for a plant based alternative to whey, I'd suggest the protein blend from SunWarrior or you can look into hemp protein. These ate both complete protein sources.
  14. Really they are garbage for body builders also. Protein is scored on digestibility using the PDCAAS or the PER. The PDCAAS scores protein from 0.0 - 1.0. whey protein being the best scores 1.0, collagen/gelatin score 0.086. Collagen/gelatin are so bad that they can't even be measured on the PER scale. To my knowlage the only protein shot on the market that is made exclusively with high quality whey is named "Yes Whey" and is distributed by Bariatric Choice.
  15. VSG removes the elastic portion of the stomach. This is also tge portion of the stomach that produces ghrelin(the hormone that triggers hunger). Furthermore with VSG there is a slightly higher chance of a leak in the first week or so, however it does not have the long term risks that plication does, such as necrosis of folded stomach tissue. Also it is nearly impossible to stretch the Vertical Sleeve. This is not the case in any other WLS. Also the unfortunate reality is that contrary to early speculation, Plucation has proven in most cases to be irreversible.

    Paying For Surgery

I saved and paid cash. I believe debt is a cancer. If tgat weren't an option for me I would have sold a car and drove a hoopty for a while to get it done. Hell, I'd have rode the bus to get this done.
  17. Have you priced a health plan on the open market that covers maternity? Good luck finding one that covers it from day one for less than 1k/month. Besides bringing life into this world is quite different & once you get to that point it isn't exactly elective.

    Isopure...gross!

Yup, that is the consensus. Try mixing itn 50/50 with Water then adding a crystal light packet to it.
