My tummy is so small that I am not getting all my Protein or Calories in?
buplee replied to judy79's topic in Food and Nutrition
I do the same. Even though I am on three soft meals, I have a shake in the morning to get that quick 35-50 grams of protein in early on in the day. That way I reach my protein goals even if I have trouble getting in my mushies. -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
buplee replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is reason we are told to practice not drinking leading up to our surgery. I only take a tiny sip when something is truly stuck which is rare. It is all mental and is rarely physical. I wait on average 45 mins before drinking after a meal, and never less than 35. It take practice and discipline, but if you stick with it becomes easier and a habit. Remember you had to replace a bad habit with a better gain. The gain is faster weight loss and a fuller feeling in the stomach. The sooner you drink after a meal, the quicker you empty the stomach and feel hungry or eat more than necessary. Think about that and give it a couple of days to a new habit. -
Protein shakes are nasty to me - help!
buplee replied to luckysmomma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I start three soft meals tomorrow and not a second too soon. I can't stand the thought of another sweet protein shake even though I am getting 55-60 grams of protein from them. My issue is how will the 70-90 grams I am getting daily without protein shakes? -
My tummy is so small that I am not getting all my Protein or Calories in?
buplee replied to judy79's topic in Food and Nutrition
I am getting my protein in mostly from shakes, yogurts, and gelatein. However, I have problems making it through my 3-4ozs of real protein from food. It takes about 45-60 minutes to finish a crab cake. Is anyone experiencing this? -
We were all made aware of the risks associated with having wls, but kind of take them with a grain of salt. However, it is so very sad to hear that one of our vst family members succumbed to the risk. I say family because that is what we are. Although most of us have never met, this forum has in some cases been more supportive than some friends and family members. He like us all was looking forward to his new future with his new body. I don't know what to say, other than this is so tragic.

Need encouragement! With Beer
buplee replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like small craft beers and ciders. I developed a real love of ciders while in Spain. I have had anything carbonated since being sleeved. -
So sorry to hear that. My condolences to his family.

How much could you have eaten with your new stomach 4 days post op? It had to be a chore.
-
How much weight have you lost to be somewhat regretful? I am sure you may the right decision.

I am on week three and have been super compliant with no cheating. I am not judging anyone, but I did not go through this derail myself in any way. When I want something sweet, I have a gelatein or sugar free pudding. Maybe, I may take a few bites of something sinful a few months down the road when I have lost 75 or 80 pounds. I want to be on my way to a good form by my 25th anniversary in June.

Sleeved on 2/19. Lost 12lbs as of first appt. last week and 25lbs overall. Scheduled to weigh in tomorrow but am a little nervous, as I am on week 3 now.

A real shi!@&$ topic
buplee replied to Vermont Sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my first bm two days after being discharged from the hospital. -
No, I am happy with my decision to go with the sleeve. My brother in law had RNY 4 weeks prior to my 2/19 surgery date. He has already experienced dumping and some other unpleasant side effects. I did not want a bypass for the reasons previously listed. I may not lose weight as quickly as he, but I also won't have the same issues he has faced.

Hang in there mastiff_mama. The scale will move for you. Try upping your protein and water to jump start your metabolism.

FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
buplee replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 2/19 and made it past the first two weeks with virtually no pain other than wicked gas pains. I have moved onto to soft foods but I am having a heck of a time getting in 3 oz of protein. Who would have thought that? I used to eat my entire meal in 15-20 minutes. Anyone else having a problem getting food down? I am chewing thoroughly but it still takes me forever. -
How difficult is it to learn to not eat and drink at the same time?
buplee replied to Simone21943's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I meant water. Did anyone have trouble getting in three ounces of protein when you started on soft foods? It is taking me about an hour to eat something soft? Is this normal? -

I was sleeved on 2/19 and don't bring weather to the table when I eat. I am up to not drinking for at least 45 minutes after a meal. -
I lost 12lbs in the first 2 weeks post- op so I know you feel. I am supposed to weigh myself today but I am a little apprehensive to see the results, but will press forward. Stay the course and all will be fine.

The Good, the Bad, but Mostly, the UGLY
buplee replied to Newnay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The ugly for me has been the wicked gas pains. I've had my wife burp me like a baby when moving didn't help. The good is looking forward to a thin me. -
Hi Tstorm, I am going step up on exercise and will keep positive. I have to remember that any lose is good. I am comparing myself to my brother in law who has lost 60 pounds in the last 8 weeks, but then he had a bypass. Keep positive and we will all stay the course.

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement. I am starting to feel better about myself.
-
Thank you Phily. I was so bummed, I was hoping for 20-25 lbs. My wife said the same thing as you. However, I got so obsessed with numbers that I almost undermined myself. You keep up the good work as well.

I had my two week follow up with the surgeon. I only lost 12 lbs postoperative, and I am so disappointed. Although I have lost 25lbs in the last 4 weeks, those numbers sting badly. The surgeon said that I lost at a good pace, but I only see others talking about 20-30lbs in two weeks. Am I alone in the way I feel? I can't get over my feelings of failure. I have surgery and still can't lose weight. I did not cheat and stuck to my liquids with no snacking. What is wrong with me?
