  1. I just read about the rib roll and if that is heaven on earth, then I must be going to hell. It may taste great but sounds absolutely horrific. Why would anyone eat that? Trust me I would say the same thing even if I wasn't sleeved.
  2. I am so sorry to hear that Laura because I look for your insight each time I sign on.
  3. Maybe we need to send messages to Alex to ask that a sub folder be created. I agree it, it would be good to have a central folder for regrets, so pre-ops can read booths sides and make an educated decision. I had to do this after my neurosurgery when the surgeon told me I repaired your spine the best I could but lose weight or lose your ability to walk. I still may need to have additional surgery but my chances for success have improved greatly.

    Scared

My wife, three neighbors with LapBands and this forum helped me make the decision to get the sleeve. My because for three decades she has seen me yo-yo diet and lose 50-100 several times. Only to gain the weight back plus more and she wanted me to succeed this time. The forum because of all the support and counsel I received when I was battling it out with Aetna for 18 months to get approved. Finally I have four neighbors with the LapBand, one is doing ok, but the other three have had serious complications, and weight gain. Think of this as my wife describes it as a more get it and forget it operation because I wouldn't have to go in constantly for fills. In addition, the complication has been rising and success rate plummeting. My doctor is doing less new LapBands and taking out many as he does sleeves. Yes, it is a bit more dramatic but your chances for success are greater. Good luck to you.
  5. Laura, on a serious note, I want to thank you for all of the support and counsel you give to the posters on this forum. It is posters like you, fiddleman, antiband and a few others that have made me trade in my food addiction for a forum addiction.
  6. Do you mean I'm not going to lose 30 in 7 days while lying around watching talk shows? This surgery really is a scam. I could lose more with one of the supplements sold at 2:30 in the morning. Seriously, I gave up soda about a month before surgery haven't look back. With the exception of a sip of a drink I made for my wife, I have been drinking Water exclusively. After my anniversary dinner, I'll be back to water.
  7. I don't understand the people who have had surgery but can't wait to go back to their old ways. My surgeon and nut gave me explicit instructions in terms of a huge folder of what to do and what not to do. I have even consulted them about my upcoming trip abroad. I have not cheated and have followed things to the letter of the law. I did ask my surgeon about having a glass of wine and champagne during my 25th anniversary dinner, and he approves. I even sent the menu to my nut for her approval and buy-in. After that night, I'll be back on the straight and narrow. However my wife has magnanimously agreed to drink the balance of my wine and champagne and to eat/finish my dinner courses. She said she wouldn't want me to waste my calories. What a women?
  8. 14 weeks out and 70lbs down. I am more than half way to my weight loss goal of 130lbs but may go for 140.

    Liquid diet

Try matrix or Protizyme protein shakes. They have great flavors and ate approved for use by most nutritionists.

    Did anyone smoke after surgery?

My neighbor and I went to the same medical group. He was told to quit smoking or his surgery would be cancelled. He stopped for three months and then started again post-op. He finally quit 1 year when he had some smoking/sleeve related issues. I am not a smoker and I am simply answering the questions.
  11. My wife was diagnosed and suffered from depression for the first 15 years we have been together. She was the child of two abusive alcoholics, who made a clear cut distinction between her and her younger sister. She went through various anti- depressives before the psychiatrist found the correct pill for her. She also went through many years of therapy and did gain a lot of weight but that came off after she found the right cocktail. She has now been off medicine and out of therapy for 12 years and is feeling great. Finding the right pill and therapist will help you greatly. You may need to deal with two different therapists, one for the depression and one for your food issues. I wish you the very best from as the husband who went through this with his wife.
  12. I'm sure not everyone is going to be happy with their decision to have surgery. What do each of you respectively regret so much? Especially those who say they researched the procedure for quite awhile and the ability to back out ahead of time.
  13. My total surgical costs were about $20-22,000 ( including the surgical team cost, hospital stay, medicines, etc) but my out of pocket was only about $1500.
  14. Don't get discouraged, my weight loss stalled and then I started losing big numbers. I felt that way after my brother in law who had wls 5 weeks earlier 90lbs in 14 weeks. 47lbs is nothing to dismiss. Have you ever lost so much in such a quick time before in your life?

  16. It's your body reacting to the shock from surgery. I think most of went through the dreaded 3 week stall. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will break. I too was discouraged with a 20lb loss at 3 weeks, but it broke and at 14 weeks I am 70 lbs down. Hang in there it only gets better. Congrats on your weight loss and journey. 17. Sleeved 2/19 and I am now down 70lbs as of last Friday. Sent from my iPad using VST
  18. Congrats to all of you. Everyone looks great. I am 13 weeks out and 70lbs down but too shy to take pictures. My wife is trying to convince me to do so. Sent from my iPad using VST
  19. My mother and father are and were very overweight and I was an obese kid but that was partly genetics but mostly my fault. I was a foodie. I ate rich lunches and dinners while on business and with my family. My wife and I have traveled extensively and we also enjoyed many a great meal at four and five star restaurants all over the world. Of course a few bottles of wine or champagne were consumed during those meals. We lived off diets of wine , cheese, bread in Madrid, Paris, and Italy. We celebrated our. 20th anniversary with a 23 course meal in Spain and we ate every small course the waiter put in front of me. I gained tons of weight over the years and my wife did not. So did I take in to many calories and eat the wrong foods? The answer is yes I did. Sent from my iPad using VST
  20. I doubt you were exposed to enough second hand smoke during that limited time. I went to the house of a relative whose family chain smokes and I passed my insurance physical the next day. I told the nurse about my exposure and she told me that they ate looking for a certain level of saturation in the blood to fail.Good luck to you. Sent from my iPad using VST
