One Year Before and After Pics

You look great. Keep up the good work.
  2. Good job. You look great.
  3. My doctor said to wait six weeks so I didn't break any stitches. We made it to about 1 week.

    Excess Skin?

I've lost 84lbs in 5 months and have noticed some excess skin on my inner thighs and arms. I think it looks awful but my wife said it's nice bad at all. I hope my working out will help tighten the skin. Any suggestions on what else I can do?

    No enjoyment of food?

I have also gone through that. I used to be a foodie (which was part of the problem, (we have traveled abroad and have eaten at 5 star restaurants) now I don't really care what I eat anymore. I won't eat high calorie items or carbs but in terms of proteins it doesn't matter to me. Eating at 5 months post-op is not as much of a chore but is no longer my life's work. Hang in there and good luck.
  6. 84lbs gone since being sleeved on 2/19. My wife dragged shopping, since she said I look like I've been wearing clothes that belong to someone else. I've gone from a 3-4x to a large or XL depending on the brand.
  7. Knowing that I've lost over 80lbs in 5 months, I would absolutely have the surgery again.

    Buyers remorse anyone?

Not true at all. I mentioned that at that early in the process, I stressed about what I perceived to be my lack of weight loss (23lbs at my first appt). I also had some buyers remorse and think a lot of us did. However, I got over it as I lost more weight and the bad symptoms dissipated ( severe intestinal distress, gas pains, etc.) .
  9. Thanks for sharing your experience.
  10. I find this forum to be tremendously helpful and supportive, and have felt that way from my pre- to post-op phase. We do not always agree with a response but for the most part it is meant to be helpful and to give you advise as someone who has experienced things. Sometimes you get a sympathetic ear and sometimes you get tough love. You'll need to take the advice that is applicable to you. The main thing is to follow the plan which has been laid out for you by you nut and surgeon and to stick with it. Good luck to you.
  11. What you are experiencing is perfectly normal at your early post-op stage. At that early stage it took me hours to finish an 8 oz shake.

    African American Sleevers

The head hunger will go away. Say to yourself, i just had surgery and there is no way I could be hungry, and I can't get anything in anyway. Keep getting in your liquids and you'll get that full feeling which is the main thing in the first few days. After that periods you'll need to get in your proteins as well. Stick to the protein during your post-op diet and don't cheat. Good luck to and congrats on being sleeved.
  13. I hope one year from now, I can celebrate like you. I am just under 5 months and 80lbs lighter. I want shopping for the first time with my wife yesterday and have gone from a 54-56 suit to a 46 with a 43 inch waist.
  14. Good for you. Being overweight never felt so good.
  15. The problem with some sleevers is that body is changing but not their mind. I did not cheat on my pre or post-op diet and had no desire to do so. My only indulgence was during my 25th anniversary dinner while on vacation. I went to places where eating healthy was hard but I chose wisely and lost three pounds with all the walking during my vacation much to the chagrin of my wife. I bristle every time I read the posts you mentioned but to each his/her own. I have lost weight many times during my life and always gained it back. I am not looking for my next Big Mac, hotdog, or whatever unhealthy food I ate copious amounts on my way to 309 and they shouldn't either. Can I eat things I want in moderation? Yes, I can but choose the healthiest options possible. I applaud those who take the fact that they had to have wls serious and encourage those who aren't to get on board.
  16. My bmi was 49 with no comorbities and I was initially denied by Aetna twice. I was only required to undergo three months of nutritional counseling but ultimately went though 12 months. I was denied the first time because my surgery was outside of process by 4 days due to a holiday weekend, and told to go through three more months of nutritional supervision. I'm fought with Aetna for 18 months before hiring a healthcare advocate at great cost, who threatened to sue and go to the media. She also wrote a scathing letter to the Chief Medical Officer stating the same and detailing the huge liability to Aetna based on my medical history. I had a knee replacement, spinal/neurosurgery, and several of procedures which were mostly weight related. i received a call from the medical review and appeals department overturning the denial one week after the letter was received by the CMO. I was finally sleeved on 2/19/13 and I am down 80 lbs so far.

  18. 1. I can sit on an airplane and bucket my seatbelt without holding my breath and without stares from the fight attendants. 2. No more shopping in the big and tall section. 3. I went from a size 54 pants to a size 43 and from a 3x to a large or extra large top depending on brand. 4. Having better, hotter sex. 5. I can complete cardio workout circuit without gasping for air.

    New from NYC

Welcome. I didn't have surgery at NYC but did at Westchester Medical Center. Your in luck because the hospital is a center of excellence. You should ask some of the following questions: How many surgeries has the surgeon performed with your specific procedure? What is his/her success rate? What will the pre and post-op diet consist of? What should you changes in your body should you expect post-op? What should your weight be once you reach goal? What should you expect in the first weeks/months post-op? How long will you need to stay in the hospital? How much pain should you expect post-op? These are a few but I'm sure you will think of many more. If you are not squeamish, you should go to YouTube to watch video of the actual procedure. There are also videos of people who've had the surgeon performed which you should watch. Good luck on you journey and come back to the forum often. You will get a lot of support as well as tough love from the posters but we all mean well.
