All of the psych evals are a joke. I went through 4 months of therapy to work out how my life with food would change post-op.

Any success stories for the 50's group?
buplee replied to MindfulWeightLoss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Update as of today. I am down 84lbs. -
This post serves as a reason, people considering surgery should do their research and ask lots of questions. It is not the responsibility of anyone to tell you everything, it is up to you the patient to inquire. I also firmly believe anyone considering surgery needs to go through more psychological counseling to deal with their respective food issues, than a rubber stamp appointment from someone who just wants a fee. I'm not coming down on anyone with regrets, but wish everyone would go to the support groups pre-op, watch videos of the procedure posted by medical professionals, and research, research, research, and how about this- do more research.

Going to NOLA this weekend! Any suggestions?

I was just there and had a little bit of different types of seafood. I had crawfish, blackened drum and redfish, BBQ oysters and shrimp from Deanies and Dragos -
How do you respond... Your loosing weight? What are you doing are you ok?
buplee replied to sureaboutme2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tell people that I practice portion control and through exercise. It is a personal choice on whether or not to tell people about your surgery. For me not everyone needs to know every aspect of my personal life, and I don't expect anyone to tell me everything personal about them. -
Keep up the good work.

7 weeks out: How many oz. are you eating?
buplee replied to Cheer Mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was 7 weeks out, I struggled to get down 3oz. It took me hours to eat, so I relied on yogurt and protein shakes. I am 5 months out and still struggle to get in 4oz at times. Good luck to you. -

Aetna Sleevers - Share Your Approval And/or Denial Experiences Here!
buplee replied to funkeechiggen's topic in Insurance & Financing
I hope you do not have the same experience as I. I ultimately fought with Aetna for 18 months. I was denied twice and then hired a healthcare advocate who wrote a letter to the chief medical officer threatening to go the media and to sue. After, that Aetna reversed their denial. BTW- Aetna contradicted their own policy. My bmi was 49 but I had no comorbities which is why I was denied twice. Good luck to you on getting approved and your journey. -
How long til I can eat more than 4 oz?
buplee replied to Brownrek's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 months out and it also varies for me. Somedays and something's I can eat 4oz of food, and sometimes I can't for the life of me. -
Can't we all just get along!!!! I was one of those sticklers who follows my plan to a tee. However, there are those who don't. It bothers me when posters worry about or eat things which are not part of their respective plans. What can I do? I offer my advice and leave it up to the poster, their surgeon, or nut. I did not want anything which got me to weigh over 300 lbs and still don't. However, I am not going to bash them as everyone needs to follow their respective journey their own way, even if I may not agree. I wish you all the best and hope the op finds the best path for her.

I also had surgery at 51, actually 1.5 months before my 52nd birthday. I have had 5 surgeries in 5 years including an almost deadly infection and am facing another spinal surgery in the next few months,so I know health issues. I was convinced it would take me forever to lose weight but here I am 84lbs lighter. I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery.

Aetna Sleevers - Share Your Approval And/or Denial Experiences Here!
buplee replied to funkeechiggen's topic in Insurance & Financing
Aetna did the same thing to me after my first denial. I was told I did not complete my 90 days when in fact I completed 120 days over 4 consecutive months. -
Your priority for each meal is to get in protein first, then vegetables, and if there is still room carbs. Try eating slowly and chewing your food a bit more.

I use Protizyme and Matrix flavored protein shakes. They're a little pricey but easier to deal for me with than the other protein powders.

**IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR GALL BLADDER PAY ATTENTION****
buplee replied to ImLooznit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon also put me on Ursodol twice a day which I will be done with in August after 6 months of taking the medicine. I am now on month 5 with no issues. Please check your facts and sources before posting something so misleading. -
Hang in there it took me 18 months and two denials before I was finally approved and sleeved.

You are a strong woman who is taking care of yourself. Thank you for being so honest. He doesn't deserve you.

I am happy I had surgery. I had 18 months to work out my fears. I have now lost 84lbs in 5 months and couldn't be happier. Fear of any surgery is normal but the complication/mortality rate is so small you'll be cheating yourself if you don't. Good luck to all of you who are discussing your fears and good luck on your respective journeys.
