Wheezy Whispers-AKA September's Goals
susansilver replied to Wheezy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I went for my fill we got a sheet which gives the characteristics of not enough fill, perfect fill and too much fill. It does not say that you cannot eat in the morning when you are perfectly filled. I had a coffee earlier and just finished a yogurt with berries (NEVER thought I would eat yogurt again)! IT was one of those TIm Horton ones, and now I feel satisified. About my low blood sugars, I am fortunate that I can tell when I am having one pretty easily. I will start to feel very hungry, then shake and start sweating profusely. I treat with 1/2 c. of juice and then some longer lasting carbs. I used to hve 1/2 cheese sandwhich, but I can no longer do that and I also find that not everything goes down quickly enough, so last night I took a small bowl of light ice cream and that worked really well. I think it was the perfect amount, because I did not have a high spike this morning, instead my BS was perfect. Trial and error! -
LL - The first question the fill nurse asked me to determine if I had any restriction was if I could eat untoasted bread. I could not so she gave me 4 cc instead of 5. I would guess that you don't have any restriction yet, but not to worry you will!!!

Wheezy Whispers-AKA September's Goals
susansilver replied to Wheezy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I am close, but not quite there. I can definitely eat in the morning, but a small amount (1 piece of toast with cheese). I do find that I am restricted throughout the day - each meal is small and ends with me feeling full. Later in the evening, I do find that I am hungry and will have a snack. The only problem I am having right now is I am used to taking my insulin before my meal based on what I am eating. I have had a number of low blood sugars, because I just can't get to the carbs/starch part of my meal. Then I need to eat again when I go low. I think I will start taking my insulin after I eat, based on what I actually eat and see how that goes. It is not optimal, but hopefully it won't be bad either. -
I have to say that terrifies me too! I go back on July 4th, but if I am still as restricted as I am now, I will probably cancel that one. It's so hard to tell this early in the process.

It's not the bracelet itself - but with Medic alert they have all your medical info on file and the ER people can contact them and your doctors.

I had some stuck problems before with certain foods like white bread. The fill nurse asked me about any problems with eting certain foods and when I told her about the bread, she told me she was giving me 4cc instead of 5 for my first fill. Since Wednesday everything has been going great! I can't believe how well t his is working for me. I just have to remember to CHEW and take small bites. No more PBs and a wonderful feeling of being full and satisified with a small amount of food.

Stacy that looks like a fine site, but since most of us here in the Canadian thread are from Canada, it would be best that Canadians use a Canadian product.
-
The site is: MedicAlert® Canada - Welcome/Bienvenue and they have lots of different styles. I got the very basic stainless steel bracelet, but they have watches, necklaces and gold and silver ones too.
-
LL - are you feeling any kind of restriction?
-
I was on an operating table and I am sure he did not sit anywhere! What's with the sitting??? He can't stand for 45 minutes????
-
Donna D I swear that I have answered you so many times on different threads!!! LOL! 4 ccs and I have a Swedish Band. How many did you get??
-
Now that would be wonderful! I certainly hope so - I have been diabetic for 25 years.
-
Ah you noticed LL - how are you doing?
-
During the time you wrote your reply, I just signed up. So My bracelet will say Insulin dependant diabetic and Adjustable gastric band. I signed up with the Canadian site. I got 4ccs andI have the swedish band. It has definitely made a difference! After all the PBing I did Tuesday, I am learning to finally really chew my food! How bout you Donna?
-
I am conflicted. I should have been wearing one for the last 10 years since I have been on insulin...but I have not. A couple of weeks ago I had to go to emerg with stomach pain and was able to tell them I had a band, but I could not help but think what if I were unconscious??? I am serisouly considering it. What about you?

To all those getting their 1st fill
susansilver replied to LeslieLee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Rob, No, I was there in the morning and my seminar was all women - so I'm sure you were not there! I think what happens is that we get used to the band! We learn to chew and eat properly and then the gas subsides. I have the worst gurgling!!! But LAst night and today I was able to eat small amounts and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW and it was much better. Remember that the band is an instrument that takes time to learn how to play! -
I would love to see that as well! If possible can you fax to my office at 416-813-7969 attention: Susan Silverstein - or can it be scanned and emailed? This is very kind of you WABB

To all those getting their 1st fill
susansilver replied to LeslieLee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Doddie, I was banded May 2nd by Dr. Yau. I had my first fill Monday and though it the fill itself was great (no pain or anything). I have PBed almost everything I tried to eat yesterday. I really think it was because I did not chew well enough so I will go on liquids for a day or two and then try again. -
I had my first fill on Monday and I am definitely restricted. Don't know if it will last or how long, but I PBed a few times, so am on liquids today until I feel better. The fill istself was painless and easy!

I agree - since it was discussed and unless he had a good reason for putting it there - then you should not have to pay. Let us know -
I would say it's normal. I had a large bruise around my port and was tender for the first while. You are just out of surgery, so give it some time.

Thanks Leslie, My fill went great! No pain at all and very quick. I did drink my bottle of Water, but had to do so much slower and gurgled alot! I think I might have a little restiction now. Nancy put in 4 cc and my next fill is in 2 weeks. I met Jurema and a number of other really nice people that have not found their way here yet. I gave them the name and hope to see them here sometome soon. How did the rest of guys do? -
Wow Lesliee you are doing great! That ticker is on fire girl.
