Yippe Leslielee!!! That is exciting. I was also thrilled when I got my date. Dr. Coburn sounds like he gives good phone consult. Very reassuring. Welcome to the wait (weight) club! Susan

Last night was Passover for my family and as with most holidays it was a feast. I felt a little awkward because the last time I had seen most of these people, I was 40 lbs lighter. I know most of us can relate to that! Anyways, I indulged of course...:hungry: many of these foods probably wont go down the band. No one said anything about my weight gain, but I am sure they were wondering.... These are people I will not disclose or discuss my band with. It kept running though my mind the next time I see them and the marked contrast in how much food I will consume. Then I started to think about when people notice me losing weight again....they are sure to ask what I am doing. My answer: PORTION CONTROL!:high5: Susan

I am just about 1 month away from my surgery and sometimes I think I am out of my mind for doing this! I am anxious about so many things not the least of which is failure. Did any of you have these second thoughts and doubts? Susan:omg:

Thank you all. I am still nervous but you have all reinforced that I am doing the right thing. I do want my health back and I will succeed. Thank you! Susan

Hey Andrew! Glad it went well. The last thing I am afraid of are the fills, because I am diabetic and take 3-4 needles a day! More afraid of cottage cheese and yoghurt diet! Susan

I just bought one of these blender/mixer things (as seen on TV), in preparation for mushies. :hungry: Does anyone have one? Does it work? Susan

Lately I have been watching that television show "Intervention". It is about a person who is addicted to something and their lives have become unbearable. Their family/friends get together and bring in an interventionist who facilitates a session where the family/friends tell the addict that they must get help immediately. The interventionist then whisks them off to a pre-arranged treatment centre. Some are healed, some not. I have often felt that I needed an intervention for my addiction to food. Obviously it is not as if we can kickthe habit cold turkey - after all we have to eat in order to survive. But this band - this feels like my intervention. It scares me sometimes to think that I won't be able to use food...hmmm...maybe I should take up drinking or drugs??? :heh: Just kidding of course. Comments??? Susan

Oh Doddie - you are so right. The Ontario Ministry of Health has no clue what they are doing! Recently at SickKids Hospital in Toronto the Paediatrician in Chief who also happens to be an endocrinologist has announced the opening of a centre for obesity. It will encompass many disciplines including nutition, social work, exercise science and even bariatric surgery! Remember this is for children - now that is progressive. We have all seen or heard of morbidly obese children and it is truly sad. I am glad that they are including this option as well. I am sure that it would be the last resort, but there are children who need - no deserve this last resort. Susan

Actually it was not in a store. I work for a large Hospital foundation in Toronto. We have a "Main Street" along one of the corridors where 3-4 vendors rotate. Today there was a guy selling these types of products (As seen on tv) and it did seem that the price was good but I wasn't sure because I did not remember the infomercial. Also I don't have a blender, just a robot coupe and that is way too much trouble to clean! Susan

Yes Doddie - my commitment to this is complete. Not only do I want the band to take off this weight and keep it off, but I will also work on my food adddiction so that I am not ever in this position again!

Lessons learned Doddie. I am becoming increasing more aware of what triggers me to eat. Last night I had a frustrating incident with my daughter and all I could think about after was eating a big bowl of ice cream! I was bugged that there was none in the house and sent my husband out to get some!!! It really felt like I could not control/deal with my anger/frustration with her without the ice cream. Sick, sick sick! Susan

Thanks guys - I think I paid a good price as well - $40.00 Susan

Oh Dame, That sounds like an awful experience. From reading the threads it seems like everyone has to go through these moments to find out what works for them and what doesn't. Good luck. Susan

That's great Angel Bear! You must feel so accomplished. Any tips for us just starting out? Susan

I have been sick at home since Friday and when I got to my voice mail at work this morning I had a message from Nisrine that they had a cancellation and I have a new date for my procedure. Drum roll please....May 2nd!!!! Woohoo!! I can't wait. I had my appt with Dr. Yau last week and the clinic was really busy so I got to chat with so many nice people. I think I have a realistic view of this - I know it won't be a piece of cake (pun intended) but I am ready to fight the good fight. Susan

I have just made the decision to be banded and would love to know if anyone has any regrets that they did it. What is the best thing about it and what it the worst? Thanks, Susan

I was told that last week when I met Dr. Yau. It didn't bother me, but I do wonder why he left. Susan

Good points Janice - I didn't see the show but it certainly sounds slanted against WLS (most news items are of course). Good for you for taking those steps to deal with your addiction apart from the band. I started researching that here in Toronto. Interesting that if I had Anorexia or Bulimia I could get treatment covered under Ontario health plan, but all treatment options for Binge eating, food addiction etc is private and expensive ($150/hr). I have a small amount for psycho services in my health plan from work, so I am considering doing a couple of sessions to get me started. Definitely would be nice to be addicted to exercise or sex (my husband would LOVE that one) but I don't see my self becoming addicted to any other substance because I am not crazy about alcohol and don't touch drugs. Too broke after this surgery to gamble:) ! It is great to have this forum to not only talk about the band - but to talk about these underlying issues that are so common to most of us. Thanks for that. Susan

Yeah CanMac! Good luck and a speedy recovery. Will look forward to your journal. Susan
