Did you exercise when you were on the Pre-Op diet?
susansilver replied to susansilver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Then this is a great time in your life to be doing this. I know there are lots of people in my situation - I just have to make it a priority. The nice things is as the weather gets better here in Toronto (Canada), we will get out our bikes and go for rides together. What kind of dog is Buddy? -

I ave to say that finding the time is one of the biggest challenges. Dh, 9 year old daughter, dog & cat and they all rely on me! Is it similar for you? -
Thank goodness! For a moment I thought I was going to have give up my coffee - black and strong! No way no how!!!:clap2:

That's fabulous. I worked out 5 days a week last year when I was losing weight. I will definitely try my best this time. -

Yeah I wonder about that too. I am not a very good chewer and I have tried "practising", but then get bored of it and give up! Also, I find when you have to chew so much, the food loses its taste. Susan -

Hey Sheila, I'm doing that too! I start the pre-op on Monday. I think it serves its purpose because I am getting so sick of all these sugary, fat laden foods! BTW - you are doing great! Susan -
Rocko, that is an incredible story. You must let us know how this is coming along for you. All the best, Susan

Melissa you are very brave. It is so unfortunate that your doctor is not supportive, but by posting I do think you are reaching out for help. Please do go and get it. As other posters have said through AA or counselling. You have to be proud of yourself and what you have accomplished. You are going through a very stressful time and it is not surprising you have fallen into a pit. Reach up your hand, and there will be many to help you climb out. YOU took the step to deal with food by being banded and YOU can find the help you need to deal with drinking and your emotions. I wish you the best and hope you continue to post here and let us know how you are doing. We care. Susan

When you were on the Pre-op diet....

Do you think he could give some private lessons to my DH? When we moved in with him his stove and oven were spotless!!! :heh: He only either ate out or frozen food that could be cooked in the microwave! When we were dating I gave him a cookbook and some utensils for his birthday. They too did not get used until I came along. My mistake was spoiling him completely. Not only do I cook (and very well, I might add), but I make his lunches for work. I AM AN ENABLER!!! -
Welcome and good luck with your surgery Susan
-
Thanks. I am really determined to give this my all.

Yes, I start my preop on Monday so this will be THE weekend. Starting tonight with Pizza hut pizza.
-
Well I'll let you know - because I start mine on Monday! Susan

I'm not so sure that the diet is setting someone up for failure, since many who have been on this pre-op have been very successful. I would encourage anyone who has been asked to do this and has concerns with their ability to follow through, speak with their doctors for alternatives. Susan

I think we should all tape a copy and send it to our doctors/friends/family who need a little more understanding and compassion. Susan -
Leslielee - please don't get all anxious about this. there are many of Dr. C. patients on this site that have/are successful and have not had any complications. I am sure you will be one of those. Susan
-
Thank you. I won't say unequivocably that she was not concerned - but there is history there that of course you would not know about. Thank you for weighing in (no pun intended) on the subject! susan

You know what - maybe this is naive, but I have a lot of faith in Dr. Yau and he told me that the older bands (Inamed) because they are rigid have been shown to have more slips etc. In addition, he siad that once I am on the table he will decide which band is best for ME. That is what I want - not what is best for others, but for me. I trust him to do the right thing. He is very honest and straightforward. Two traits that rate very high with me. Susan

Hi Kaitlin, congratulations on taking control of this disease at your age. You have done so well already and I am sure you will continue with this great success. Even though most of us are older - please do post here and get involved, it is a great community and proud to support young people like yourself! Susan -
I agree. I do see my obesity as having an addiction component. That being said - I don't think it is a given that I will transfer my addiction to something else. I also don't think People magazine should tbe where the population gets serious medical and mental health information!
