  1. I have also started mine early because my eating was so out of control and I wanted to take that craziness out of the equation. I was also worried about my liver being too large. My clinic told us that if it is too large there is a chance of them not being able to do the surgery laparascopically, but will have to open you up to place the band. NO THANKS! I am allowed low fat yogurt (SF), low fat cottage cheese, SF Jello, Egg whites, and Water bascially. Just started this morning, so yes I am finding it difficult but I am focusing on the goal. I would love to lose some weight before the surgery - at least the amount I put on these last couple of months!

    DonnaD's countdown

Donna - seminar was great. They walk you through every moment of your surgery day from the time you wake up until the time you leave. We got a tour of the OR, recovery rooms etc. Then there is a presentation on the pre and post op diets as well as a very detailed explanation of how the band works. It helped me feel more relaxed and assured that I was doing the right thing.

I actually bought "Egg Whites Only" - which has no fat at all. Not sure about Egg Beaters. I had a yougurt, coffee and I will now have a jello because I am really hungry. I don't think we should try to starve ourselves, but I suspect that after a few days it will get easier. I think lots of liquids will help too.

Hi Donna, It's not in the folder - but someone else who was banded at TLBC was told that if they could find something else with the same nutritional value - it was fine. She ate them because she hated cottage cheese and was successfully banded last month. Susan

    motivation

Hi Big Thunder - you don't have to run - start with walking. Just walking. Walk at least 30 minutes and make sure break a sweat. That's all you need for cardio - just get your heartrate up a bit. You will do fine. Good luck, Susan
  7. Yoda - how are you and the Mr.? How is the house coming along? When do you leave for Victoria? Is this a holiday for you? Inquiring minds....again....

    DonnaD's countdown

Hi Donna, Once again - you and I are neck and neck. I am really curious about how much you and everyone else who has done this before has eaten. What will you have for breakfast? lunch? dinner? I also bought Egg Whites only to make scrambled eggs in the microwave. There are approved because they are similar in protein, fat (none) and calories as say - yogurt or jello. I weighed myself this morning and plan on weighing myself every day! It will be hard enough fighting the food demons, I will give in to my scale obsession! :faint: I am rooting for you!!! Susan

    Susan's Solemn Silliness

Today is Day 1 of my pre-op diet. I am ready for this. I managed to gain another 3 lbs, but I expected that. I hope that starting the diet early will make up for my weight gain during this time. So far this morning I had a single serving yougurt and coffee. I am not even sure what to take for lunch so I thought I would take a tub of cottage cheese to stash in the fridge along with another yogurt and a serving of SF Jello. It is hard to gauge how hungry I will be. I will take my glucometer with me because my blood sugars will be very unpredictable. Another reason for doing this early so that I can have them in normal range consistently before THE BIG DAY!!! THE BIG DAY - not long now. Can't wait to join the banded in this quest/challenge/journey. Update: DH took my before pics and they are not pretty. I find it so interesting how I can look at myself in the mirror to get dressed and not see myself. They were especially difficult to look at - and I really LOOKED - becauseI am wearing underwear that I wore 30 lbs ago! I am too stubborn to buy bigger clothes because I got rid of all my larger clothes last time. I will this time as well, but I am more positive that I will not EVER need them again.

    Susan's Solemn Silliness

Yup - yogurt, cottage cheese, egg white and SF Jello. Went shopping today to pick that all up. It was so funny because I might buy a 12 pack of yogurt that would last 2 weeks and here I was buying 2 -12 packs for the week (along with 3 tubs of cottage cheese) Tonight I am making a standing rib roast for my last meal. My daughter is back home and we are having friends for dinner. I hope it is memorable! Susan

Hey Donna - we are on the same path. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow as well. I am starting a little early because my eating was so out of control. I am being banded May 2nd by Dr. Yau at Scarborough Grace. Exciting isn't it? About the ticker go to tickerfactory.com Then just follow the steps it is really easy. After you make your ticker, then go to edit your profile here and there is a section to add a ticker. copy and post the http code from ticker factory to that section and voila! It will appear. Were you are the TLBC pre op seminar on the 10th? Good luck, Susan

    Susan's Solemn Silliness

Okay last day. Up at 5 am this morning with dog, but I am not yet able to go back to sleep. I am nervous but excited to start my early pre op. I feel like I am doing the right thing and I am one step closer to my band.
  13. Did you find it difficult to still cook for your loved ones? I have a DH who is hopeless in the kitchen and a 9 year old daughter who has to eat. Did you find it difficult to do? Susan

    What's wrong with me???

So since I booked my surgery I have been on the condemned prisoner diet. You know - the one where you eat like it's your last meal??? I have been giving into ALL my cravings (and have gained 7 lbs as a result). Last night I craved.....BROCCOLI and today.....A salad :faint: Help me - is this normal???:help: :heh:
  18. Did anyone see this documentary last night on PBS? I missed most of it, but if you check the schedule it is on a number of times in the next couple of weeks. Finally - Doctors who say, this is a disease and is very complex. It's not just about eating less and excersising! Here is a synopsis from the website: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/takeonestep/fat/index.html About the Program Face it: We're fat. With 66 percent of U.S. adults either overweight or obese, our girth is a serious public health issue. Yet many of us still view being overweight as a character flaw, a lack of self-control, or even a moral crime. But does fat really equal failure? FAT: What No One Is Telling You explores the myriad psychological, physiological and environmental factors that can make it so tough to shed pounds and keep them off. In this documentary, Executive producer Naomi Boak and producer/director Tom Spain, both Emmy Award honorees, share new scientific knowledge about hunger, eating, and human metabolic operation. This film also explains our psychological responses to food, and shows how external pressures (such as oversized restaurant portions and the unending barrage of food advertisement) make fighting fat so difficult, both on the personal and national levels. FAT's engaging personal narratives create snapshots of our national struggle with obesity: Meet Rosie Dehli, a Minnesota grandmother, battling to get fit so she can enjoy an active, playful relationship with her grandchild. Meet Mary Dimino, an actress and comedian, in New York, NY, who exemplifies the hard work people must do to lose pounds and stay healthy once they've been obese. Meet America Bracho, a public-health professional in Santa Ana, California, who is educating families about nutrition while encouraging her Latino community's children to move, both in school and at home. Meet Rocky Tayeh, a Brooklyn, New York teenager grappling with the very personal (and highly criticized) solution of undergoing Lap-Band surgery. Meet Dr. Lee Kaplan of Harvard University Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, who is a clinician, researcher and above all an empathetic warrior in the battle against obesity The voices of these and other real Americans tell the story of the biological barriers, cultural habits, and economic realities that contribute to our nation's expanding

    Susan's Solemn Silliness

So last night I was telling DH how fat I felt, how I was ashamed to see anyone who I haven't see for a while because of all this weight I regained. His parents are coming back from a trip tomorrow and he is going to pick them up at the airport (His Dad is in a wheelchair). So I said - "I feel so fat that I am not going to the airport with you to pick up your parents". Then he said "You won't fit anyways". :faint: He of course meant because of the wheel chair, luggage etc. I cracked up! He was mortified! :embarassed: We had a good laugh over it but I will NEVER let him live it down!!! :heh: Susan
