    Unhappy Camper

I also had problems with morning acid stomach. In the end, after trying 3 meds, I found an acid reducer (omernazole) that worked for me. Until then I couldn't take too much either. Sipping through a straw was truly the best I could manage. Good luck.
  2. They have a website www.unjury.com I like to add a ramen noodle flavor packet to the soup. Yum
  3. Happy aceves patient here. Feel free to reach out
  4. I was sleeved in oct by dr aceves. It is a big decision to go that alternative route and it was hard for me as I am a nurse, but it came down to dr aceves qualifications, the facility, great reviews then cost. Oh and my mom who is a nurse, the greatest sceptic of all came with me. She now signs his praises. The quality of the facility and the preop visit was what won her over. Honestly, she would have dragged me back over the border if she didn't feel good about it. I'm so glad I had 3 days to deal with everything before traveling back. I had trouble with pain but I am one of the few as many have not. And it was mostly around the scope sight. After 5 days I was bad to my usual business. Why not a dr in my area? Frankly I went for dr aceves experience. Knowing surgeons well in my business, I'll go for experience and a good track record any day.
  5. It was hard ( oct 08). I'm on board with the unflavored unjury protein and putting it in crystal light. For concentrated sources of protein ( 3 weeks out and still sore) I drink isopure or unjury shakes in about 4 oz of liquid. That makes the whole process less intimidating. Then I focus on fluid, fluids between that. Sometimes I try a scoop and a half in one protein shake (25g) so gets halfwayway to my goal by 2p. Slow sipping was also vital. I also had to switch around my ppi a bit and try different types of fluid ( coconut water, propel , isopure, water mixed with mango juice) to figure out what my sleeve liked best. It took a lot of experimentation but I'm getting there. You will too.

    Switching Ppi

Switched to Prevacid. What a relief! I went from feeling like my stomach was a raw wound to being not sensitive to fluid. And I didn't have to sit up the whole night . Thanks folks

    Switching Ppi

Does anyone ever wake up with a burning sensation in their chest? That is what I'm faced with and I'm on pantazole twice per day. Sleeping upright is not fun.

    D-Day Countdown 2 Days

Thanks. The pain at the incision site is a lot better. Now if I can only manage the acid. I swear that the pantazole only lasts for about 16 hours then I'm back to where I started. I'll have to call. Anyway, do you ever end up feeling full at the end of the day even though you havent had anything for an hour or two? Strangely this is what I'm dealing with so I'm sleeping upright for now. Otherwise I'm down to 215 from 230. Not bad at all
  9. Just arrived in San Diego and will be traveling to Mexicali to see dr aceves for surgery on Monday. Had my cheat meal yesterday. I know, I know but I think I started to feel anxious about not having brownies and lamb for awhile. Anyway, other than that I was model patient for 2 weeks and stuck with the Protein shakes. Premier was a lifesaver. Tomorrow I have preop testing and I hope everything goes well. I basically had to sneak off work at a bad time to do this. So much was going on buti had to put myself first for change. Anyway good luck to all of October sleevers. I'll let you know how e erything goes tomorrow.
  10. I didn't until day 7. Started taking soluble fiber
  11. My dr prescribes it for 3 months and insists on that for all patients. He said some may be on it for 6 months.
  12. Day 10, first day without significant belly pain. Tolerating fluids but sick of chicken soup since other fluids hurt my sleeve. Looking forward to moving to full if this stuffy feeling ever goes away. Why is up with that. Preop weight 235, today 216.

    5 Days Post Op

I am 6 days post op and I can certainly relate . It is hard but through trial and error I realized that my new sleeve only tolerates certain types of fluid. For example vitamin water feels like I'm drinking glass, propel - I can drink one bottle an hour, isopure-glass, any kind of broth - goes down great. Also my dr gave me ppi's and that helped my stomach not feel like it was being torn apart. I'm hoping I turn a corner at 10 days. Good luck to you too.

    D-Day Countdown 2 Days

Well it's now day 2 after the procedure. I'm so happy my mom travelled with me. Surgery went well although my immediate recovery didn't. Seemed I had a bit of nausea and vomiting. Not that I remembered anything. Like others who have posted, I will say I was impressed by the facility. As a nurse, I took in the experience cautiously although I was confident in my choice from my research and the great info by the members of this group. During preop the 3 physicians spoke to me not only about the surgical procedure but the work I would need to do mentally after the procedure. They explained the prep, anesthesia and the recovery phase. They even had time to answer the questions I had written down but honestly I had done a lot reading prior to getting here so they supported everything I had learned. Everything from the ride from San Diego, our interactions with the patient care coordinator, Yolanda, and the overnight stay at the hotel was smooth and very professional. Post op day 1 - I slept. What can I say. The drugs were excellent. Unfortunately I haven't slept since :-(. I have 4 incisions and one is a drain. No gas to walk off thank god and a colostomy bag around the drain so my skin was protected. The nurses didnt speak much English but I was okay with that I knew the magic word for pain meds -dolor. Post op day 2- still wide awake and had the first of 2 dye tests. It basically validated that no blue dye (in juice) didn't leak out my drainage bag. No leak so far. What a relief but now i actually start drinking..bring on the Clear liquids. Wow I really began to understand what others talked about when they said it was difficult.. I was in between queasy, not quite nausea and felt stuffed after sipping a little bit. I quickly learned to adjust my sips but I think things got better after I took some pain meds. Honestly folks. Don't refuse stuff. My stomach felt like I was pouring Water on an open wound until I dealt with that. Tomorrow is the barium test so im crossing my fingers. Now if I can just sleep.... Until later
  15. I'm the same way. I zone out during work and when I look up its 4 hrs later. I'm having surgery soon and had planned on having a timer on my phone beep me every couple of minutes to remind me to drink until it becomes a habit.

  18. I'm having mine in mexico so I asked when I should follow-up with my dr. The ask was that I should go to them for medication mgt and at 3, 6, and 9 months

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

There is a cool iPad app called tminus that counts down the days. It is pretty cool and a reminder that I have to start cleaning up my diet soon. For some reason I've been binging a little like my mind knows the end is near. I've had a " last milkske". " last fried chicken". " last chocolate shake". The mind can be a terrible thing.

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

My date is October 8th with dr. Aceves. I"m very nervous but just started the process of weaning myself off coffee. I think that and eating slower might be my greatest challenges. Let the countdown begin :-)

    October Sleevers?

October 8 th with dr. Aceves.
  22. Hi folks I'm seriously Considering surgery with dr aceves because I am unfortunately self pay. Now although I won't be forced to jump through the hoops that the insurance companies typically prescribe, I do think that I would benefit from building a support network like a nutritionist, a local support group and some help dealing with the other issues that I've heard from other users in this forum. My question for folks in the greater KC area- can anyone share the names of a nutritionist and other resources that may be available to someone not connected to a barbaric center? Thanks
