    Questions

I am having my first fill next Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone has tried putting an ice pack on the port before having the fill. I am really nervous about the fill. I really don't even like to feel the bump where the port is. Also, I have probably been eating no more than 1000 calories per day. But, I haven't lost any weight. I lost my original 10 pounds, but I feel like that is mainly just Water weight. How is is possible to eat that little and not lose any weight? That is so much less than I ate before. I am eating Protein (mainly fish and eggs) and vegetables. The old me would eat at least one if not two candy items per day. You would think even without the band I would lose eating so much less. I am hoping to lose 10 pounds by August 16, but at this rate, that is not going to happen. Any suggestions? Sandy
  5. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago yesterday I did Atkins for 2 weeks Pre-op. in total I have lost between 8 and 9 pounds. I don't feel any different. My scale is stuck on 180. I want it to dip Into the 170's do badly. I see so many of you who have lost 15 plus during this period. I know I am eating so much less than before Any suggestions? Thanks

    1St Fill On The 14Th

I get my first fill on th 19. I will be anxious to see what you think after having it done. Does anyone ever put ice on it before the needle is inserted? I thought that might make it hurt less.
  7. I had my surgery on the 25th. I was on liquids for 1 week. Yesterday I started soft foods. Today I am STARVING!!! I would eat anything that wouldn't eat me back. I have tried to be careful though. oatmeal for Breakfast. Two freshly grown tomatoes (from our garden) mashed up, and a Protein shake, but I am SOOOO hungry. I am sewing and trying to stay busy, but it is hard to ignore my rumbling tummy. Thanks! Sandy
  8. We went out to dinner tonight. I think I did very well. I had mini-portabella mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese (off the appetizer menu) and smashed sweet potatoes. I was full but didn't feel like I had over eaten. I know going out can be tricky.
  9. Am scheduled to have my first fill the day before I go out of town. Any suggestions? I am a little nervous, but luckily I am going with my 2 friends who know I had my band put in.
  10. Please keep me posted. I have my first fill the 15. I am REALLY nervous about it. Scared about pain and about throwing up.

    First Time Out

I know I am not suppose to drink while eating but luckily I have not had a fill yet.

    First Time Out

No, Libelly, I have not had a fill yet. I have only had my band for 10 days. The book they told me to read says I should eat for 20 minutes - 20 bites, 20 minutes per bit, equals 20 minutes - ha ha! I hope I don't take 45 minutes because when August rolls around I will be a teacher again and 45 minute lunches would be a dream come true. Between talking, etc., it took me about 30 minutes. The plate size wasn't bad because I ordered from the appetizer menu so the plate was small. Then I had a side order of mashed sweet potatoes which came in a small bowl. The only thing I didn't do well on was drinking tea during my meal. I think when I have a fill, I am suppose to not drink liquids when eating so that it takes a bit longer to push the food through the band. But for the first time, it wasn't bad. Let me know how everyone else does.

    Advice For Vacation?

I had my surgery 10 days ago. I think being with family for 10 days might be more painful than the surgery . Plus, surely most family members can't take the whole 10 days off either. Just tell everyone you are doing Atkins and drink their Protein shakes. That should explain why you don't have any carbs. I had to go back to work 3 days after my surgery. I teach second grade with 24 seven and eight year olds. We had field day the day that I went back. The only thing I think you should have problems with is not swimming, but I haven't been in a bathing suit for years, so no one would question that. Walking, boating, etc. shouldn't give you any problems. I bet your doctor team can help with food ideas, etc. Good luck and have fun!
  14. I haven't told either. My husband, daughter, 2 best friends, and another friend who has a band knows. Other than that I didn't tell. I don't want people watching everything I eat and making judgements. I am a teacher, so I am on vacation for the summer now. Everyone knows that I am on a diet. I hope to lose 10 pounds before school beings in August. I didn't even tell my mother because she is 91. I don't want her to worry. I say it is your business if you don't want to tell.

    Be Careful Food!!!

If you are hungry like me and are looking for something to do, you can vote for my grandson. He is currently first place in a contest that ends today. He is a little cutie. That is why I am trying to lose weight so that I can be around longer for him. http://photos.parents.com/cutekid/22/2012
  16. When I was on my Pre-op diet I fell in love with a good hamburger wrapped in lettuce

    Day 2 Post Op

I got my band on the 25. I am hoping to loose 15 pounds by August. They said I shouldn't expect to loose much for the first 6 weeks. I hope I can do it by August.

    1St Day Back At Work

WOW!!! That is great weight loss. I only had my surgery last Friday, and I really haven't lost anything yet. Unfortunately I had to go back to work the following Tuesday, so I actually only had Monday off. If only I could win the lottery!!
  19. I only got my band last Friday, but I fell like I had 2 small victories today. First I went to McAllisters and had a bowl of Soup. I ate so slowly that the soap got cold before I finshed it. I probably ate a bit too much, but I didn't eat all of it!!! That would have never happened in the past. I guess next time I should order the cup instead of the bowl. Then I went to an office building. I walked down the stairs from the 3rd floor instead of taking the elevator. Small steps, but steps non the less. I have found this wonderful juice that I LOVE. I will be sorry when I go off of liquids because then I won't be able to drink it anymore. Sandy
  20. I had my surgery last Friday, May 25. I have been on liquids only, just as instructed. I have not limited my liquids, but I am sure that must be a LOT less than what I used to eat. I haven't really lost anything, but you would think I would have lost something not eating any solids. I know it is a slow process, but really! I wondered if anyone else is experiencing this? I am looking forward to soft food on Saturday. Also how do you get the little weight ticker at the bottom of your posts? Thanks! Sandy

    6 Days Out Feeling Great!

I had my surgery on the 25 of May. My doctor also said only liquids for the first week, so that is what I have been doing. I am also to drink two protein drinks per day. Since I have not had a fill yet, I don't think I could survive the day on 1 yogart and water. I wish it was that easy for me.

    Oh Dear!

Did anyone else wake up from surgery and think, "Oh dear, what have I done!" I realize it was only a few days ago for me, but I think I am more nervous now that I have had it done. I am sure once I lose a little weight I will be glad, but now I am not so sure. What is this "slime" that I hear people talking about? It doesn't sound like something I want to happen to me.
  23. I was only banded on Friday. The thing that is bothering me most is the air or gas in my shoulders and upper chest. How long does it take to get rid of this? Any suggestions? I haven't had a bit of trouble drinking liquids, but the gas part really hurts. Thanks!
  24. I am on my first week of only liquids. Is there a limit of how many ounces I should be getting? I have eaten a lot of sugar free popsicles, tea, soup, etc. I just don't want to have too much.
  25. I just got my band and I am afraid this will be a huge problem for me. I am a teacher, so I am used to woofing down my food during a 20 minute lunch.
