I wanted to know if anyone knows when you are given the green light by your Dr. for panni surgery? I've read that it's a year after VSG, and then some say two years. How do you know when you've reached your goal in order to have the panni surgery? Is it a goal your PCP or surgeon sets? I live in Los Angeles, and I have Kaiser, but I'm so confused on what happens once you're approaching a year from your VSG surgery date. I've lost over a 100lbs since I began my Options prep classes, but I still have 19lbs to lose before reaching a 100lbs from my surgery date.

Everytime I Eat Too Fast....
Donito replied to ebthompson2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may take some getting use to, but you have to learn a new method of eating and chewing. Take very smal bits and chew them to a paste. It doens't sound appealing, but you won't have that reaction after a meal. Are you on solids yet? -

Me 4lbs away from my 2nd goal, a 100lbs loss. My first goal was to get to 300lbs. -

I just made my first goal of 300, and I imagined I would feel happier, but I don't. I don't know what my body will look like once I reach my goal weight. I don't want to have nor can I afford plastic surgery. I'm just worried.

The More I Lose, The More I Fear...
Donito replied to Donito's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, having the skin issue is better than having a stroke for sure. I didn't have this surgery for vanity, I was going to have a stroke or die. I've had so many stages of weight loss. However now I'm noticing my body in ways I never have, and it's scary. My breasts are smaller, I can feel the bones in my feet and hands, and worst of all, no hips or butt, lol. I don't have alot of excess skin yet because there's still fat attached to it, lol! My arms are a problem for sure, but I guess you just work towards acceptance. My experience has been that once I tell people I've had the surgery they immediately comment on how great it will be to be skinny, and it frustrates me. 1st they don't know what weight you want to be, my goal is 200, far from skinny, and 2nd with this surgery you don't know what kind of body you might end up with. At my very heaviest 8 years ago I was 400, and VERY slowly got to my pre Options class weight of 376. It's been a long ass road with still road to travel. Anyway, thanks for the input everyone! -

Hi All, I'm not sure how to begin, but here we go... I've been overweight my whole life, and 9 years ago I was at my heaviest , which was between 410-420lbs. Over the years I've very slowly lost weight, but never to the degree that would make me healthy. Last year I began to make a focused effort to gain control of my weight, which means I weighed 380lbs at the beginning of last year. I am now 1 week post-op with the VSG, and my weight on my surgical date was 353lbs. I am now 339lbs, which is a loss of 14lbs, and I guess that's normal, not sure?? I'm experiencing side pain, and my stomach is still VERY swollen. I feel like I have 2 galIons of water strapped to my belly that I'm dragging around. I can't be physically active more than 15mins without pain, and shortness of breathe. I'm getting very frustrated because I want to began excercising!!! Is it normal to still be in pain when moving about a week after surgery?
