Wow! Down 63 lbs is amazing!! What is your goal weight?

Getting stuck sucks. It usually happens only after you've had a couple fills. All I can say is chew chew chew your food and take small bites. When I get stuck, the biggest thing that helps is to stand up, walk around, and take super deep breaths! Also, try and distract yourself as much as possible and tell yourself it will pass, otherwise anxiety will get the best of you.

Two Weeks Post Op. Moody & Starving
Bandedlauren replied to Lenaboley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember when I was 2 weeks post op. I was snapping at everyone even if they did nothing wrong and was constantly moody. It will get better once you get onto solids. I guess that's why they call it bandsters hell month! Try to keep yourself occupied with anything and everything that doesn't involve food. Also, when I was having serious sweets cravings...I would have a teaspoon of sugar free caramel ice cream topping...it worked wonders!! (i know it's not the best, but it helped my mood out a ton!) just be sure you have enough self control to only have a tiny bit of the caramel only a couple days a week. It will get better! -
That's great! I was banded on may 11th.

Add me! I'm bandedlauren.

Hey, I'm 20 and started my journey November last year with insurance required classes (so glad I did!) I was finall banded on may 11. Weighing 244lbs. I had diabetes, joint problems, asthma, and the list goes on. Today I am down 35lbs at almost 3 months post op and weighing 209! I am also in school for medicine to become a surgical tech! (scrub tech) and will graduate in 1 year!

Hey girl, I'm almost 21 and was banded on may 11 this year! I was gaining about 5-10 lbs a month before surgery. That would have put me at easily 400lbs By the time I was your age. Getting banded is the best decision I have ever done. I started my journey at 244lbs with diabetes, joint problems, asthma, and the list goes on. Today I am 209! Don't be embarrassed about your weight on here, we are all going through the exact same challenges regardless of where we started!

Thank you everybody!! I love this site and the support I receive from everyone!

I'm so excited! I just gave my size 17 and up pants to goodwill today!! They didn't fit and I knew there was no reason to keep them around!

Induced vomiting can also cause your band to slip...which is no good. My body has forced me to vomit twice (once after a cracker, and once after a bite of tortilla). They both got stuck and would NOT pass. Surprisingly though, hardly anything came up. Either way, getting stuck is no fun!

Did You Keep Your Surgery A Secret?
Bandedlauren replied to KanesMom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In the beginning I only told a couple people. It was a mistake to tell some people because they tried talking me out of the surgery, saying it was a cop out and that I was just being lazy. After that I was very protective of who I told. Now that I am 3 months post op and down 33 lbs, I've been telling more and more people. I still keep it somewhat guarded though because I don't handle negativity well. -
Hey guys, Today I made some horrible food choices. Mostly carbs and not much protein. I'm feeling like crap and need to pick myself back up. What are some things you do in order to get back on the wagon and make better choices? Lauren

Maybe my Dr. Is the odd ball! He always gives me a numbing shot which doesn't hurt at all, and then he fills! He always has me lie on my back on the exam table with a pillow under my lumbar region. I've only had 2 fills, but both were a breez! Maybe try a different position or ask for some numbing stuff.

Hey guys! I was thinking about detoxing for a couple days. I've been feeling very tired and bloated the past week and wanted to re energize! I've never detox'd while banded but I have n the past. Have you? If so, what's your favorite method? Liquid diet? Detox meds? Let me know! Lauren

I love how "short and chuky" explained it! They put a band around our stomachs and not around our brain!! I too struggle with food, but hey...I wouldn't be banded if food was easy to say no to! The easiest thing for me to do is to preoccupy my mind with something else. Granted it doesn't always work, but most of the time it does! I take my dogs for a walk, or work on teaching them a new trick! I also get on here, Facebook, and my fitness pal a lot! Maybe try to look into your local rec center and see if they have any fun workout classes! I love Zumba and spin class! It also helps if I create a schedule for myself of all my daily activities including eating. Last, the biggest thing that helps me is to plan out my meals for a whole day the night before. It seems as though if I don't have a plan or a schedule, then I completely blow it. Keep up the great work and hang in there! Lauren

Thanks everyone. Today I was under my calorie goal which is good, but I managed to gain about 4lbs with one day of eating bad. Ugh, tomorrow is a new day packed full of protein!

That's a really good idea. I could just throw on my sneakers, grab my dog and go. Unfortunately it's midnight here and I don't like running when it's dark. Before I gained a ton of weight, I was very much so a runner and getting back into running outside sounds like something I should definitely start doing. I think I will wake up early and run for at least 30 min tomorrow to kick start my brain. Thanks so much for the support, I really needed that.

maybe get a blood workup, this sounds like there may be something going on with your vitamin levels

Hey guys! I am exactly 2 months post op and am down 30lbs. I understand that the norm for weight loss is 1-2lbs a week but there have been times where I've lost nothing for 2-3 weeks and where I've lost nearly 5lbs a week. I am getting my second fill tomorrow (I'm at 4cc'snow). What have you all noticed is a normal amount of weight to lose in the first few months, and how does it change in the future?

Vacationing With People Who Don't Know
Bandedlauren replied to MemphisFan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not too many people know about my surgery either. I have told literally everyone that I am meeting with a dietitian regularly and I need to follow the rules to be successful! Everyone thinks its great that I'm doing that and in all honesty it's not a lie! I do meet with the nutritionalist at the dr. Office about once a month! -
I had my first drink 1 month post op and I was buzzed off of a glass of wine. Definitely be careful of carbonation, but shots and wine are great! Even the fruity girly drinks. Yes, you do want to be careful of caloric intake, but every so often I feel like its ok to have a margarita or piña colada!

Does Our Age Make A Difference?
Bandedlauren replied to whitneyrenees's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am only 20 and probably one of the youngest band patients. I have been able to lose weight fairly quickly and easily. I'm not sure if it's because of my age or if it's because I am trying very hard. Either way im two months post op and down 30lbs. You will see change, keep up the good work!
