Frustrated With My Spouse
mommymar replied to karenb4729's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had more of an issue in pre OP because I actually wanted to eat then. But that second post op week, when even Mac and cheese smelled good, THAT is when I would choose to take my shower. Not being able to hear it being made helped, and I could still smell it but your other senses are engaged and so it helped to get through stuff like that. The only thing you can do is learn how to make it easier on yourself if it happens again. Good luck. (also, talk to him about it some time when its not time to eat) -
Is Keeping The Secret Possible?
mommymar replied to Nikki613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read through all the comments and I see both sides. I was "out"as a fat person. I didn't have to shout it from the roof tops, anyone who knew/saw me knew I was fat. Unfortunately, me being "openly fat" didn't change the stigma of fat people being "lazy" or "disgusting" or "our of control" so I think (its just me and it could have to do with my insecurities) how can I change WLS stigma? I was a good fat person and still felt judged and looked down upon. I hope to be a good WLS success story and DON'T want to be judged or looked down upon. Just as I admire those that stood up for the obese ones, I admire those that stand up for WLS. I hope to be one of you one day. Thanks everyone for sharing and making me truly look at all sides of this issue. -
Should Have Measured
mommymar replied to ChaChaBurch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need to do my measurements. And I will tonight. I did do pics though. I did, front, side and a close up face shot. Then I am going to take more pictures the first Sunday of every month. So I took my first "after" shots last week. I have to say, I knew my clothes were looser, I knew the pounds were coming off. I knew there is a big difference between 294 and 261 but I couldn't "see" it when I looked in the mirror. I totally saw it when I compared the pictures. And I was in the middle of my first stall. That got me through it. I think we need to really keep track. It is more motivation than I would have thought. Thanks for the recommendation. I need all the help I can get :-) -
What a fabulous accomplishment. I am so exited for you. What a huge day! You should go get a new shirt, pants or an outfit. I know I see that 100lb mark as this far off dream. Heck, 50 seems like this unreachable goal (even though I have lost 37) It has been hard, for me, to change my mindset that this ACTUALLY works! I keep waiting for the scale to stop..... Then move in the other direction like old times. Posts like this make me feel it's possible. Thanks for sharing.

Personal Yes, But When Did You...
mommymar replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This has been my hubbys favorite post! He has been asking me every night, "Do you have enough protein today? If not I am happy to help" I tell ya. I am a month out, I feel good with the weightloss but I have done muscle soreness that I can't wait to go away so I can start to really enjoy this new body and confidence!! -
I have read a number of threads about who people tell or not want to tell about your surgery. I personally told my family and good friends. But I am determined to keep it a secret from my in-laws. My reason? Because I have never been "good enough" I have never got support from them nor have they ever wanted me to succeed (it feels like anyway) at any diet I have ever done. This time, I am going to be healthy, do it the right way and have long term success. The best way I can "show them" Do you not tell out of embarrassment? Because it is no ones business? Afraid of judgment? Or some other reason? And are you looking forward to the day when you can shock those people? I know I am!!!

What Was/ Is Your Reason?
mommymar replied to mommymar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find it so fascinating how different people feel about it. I worried about telling my Mom because she had so much to worry about. My little brother is actually the reason I decided on surgery. He is 28 and 1 1/2 years ago he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of MS. Since then he went from an active guy to a vegetable. He was a scuba diver, marathoner and sportsman. Now he can't feed himself and had only been given another year or so to live. I started realizing I was taking my body for granted. I feel like this decision was for both me and Paul (my bro) what I thought would give my Mom worry, actually gave her peace. (in no way does that make me think it's what everyone should do). I am happy to have the support of those I told. And I am fine keeping it from the others :-) -
<<Help>> Not Sure If I'm On The Right Path
mommymar replied to honeybee72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 things. First of all, I think when we stress so much about the scale it slows the weightloss. For me, I had to put the scale away. I weigh every one to two weeks. I found I am so much happier without that darn scale because then I focus more on my feelings. Secondly, up your calories to the amount you SHOULD be getting in. Not eating enough is telling your body you are in "starvation" and then your body holds on to the food you are eating. Try eating more before getting too upset. I too have that same worry even though I know this process is working (never as fast as we think it should come off) I still feel like my body is going to stop losing because it's happened with every other diet. I would follow it 100% and still at some point I would just stop losing. Good luck! Keep up the good work! Don't give up. You are not alone. -

I too was diagnosed with PCOS. After that diagnosis they told me that the only way to get pregnant was to lose weight but that what PCOS (which most overweight people seem to be struggling with when they can't get pregnant, it seems) does to your body makes weightloss extremely hard. So now that you are doing something that fixes what our bodies seem to have issues with, pregnancy becomes much easier. I sure hope you get to be a happy, extremely healthy, mommy!

Got Back In Bed.. Felt Like Something Ripped!
mommymar replied to Ready for the new Lay-Lay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you still hurt, call the surgeon. I agree, crappy answers before but if you call this time and he tells you it has nothing to do with him, its time to ask him what you CAN call for :-) or go to the ER how far out are you? -
This May Be Inappropriate, Forgive Me :)
mommymar replied to futureskinnypants's topic in The Gals' Room
Ooh, when my Hubby had bypass I heard (and saw..... he was very proud) how he was "growing". I have to admit, it is amazing how much the men can change. I never even THOUGHT that I could change? After a month out of surgery all I have figured out is "carnal relations" (thank you Big Bang Theory) is easier. Can't wait to keep figuring out these changes. Thanks for the laugh! -
That is AWESOME!!! I look forward to that day too.

So I hit the 3 week stall (I hit it a little early) but the scale finally moved today. It will be one month tomorrow and from the beginning of the process I am now down 35lbs. Current weight: 259! So amazing from 294. But my real happiness had come from the fact I have started having people say (that do not know I had the surgery) how great I look and, wow, you have lost weight, you look great. My biggest compliment of all came from my Mom yesterday. She said, "holy chow your losing your boobs!" (I wear a DDD and it is getting quite big on me) also, I am wearing clothes I haven't worn in years. I am so grateful to my sleeve!

Coughing Before/after Surgery? Can You Share Your Experience?
mommymar replied to SylviaMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pillow is the key. (for both cough and vomiting) it hurts but survivable. Also heat. Either warm blankets or heating pad. Good luck! -
My Psychological Evaluation
mommymar replied to Half~of~Bri's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a 15 page psyc eval and there were a few questions that I didn't know of I should "honestly" answer because I didn't want to be told, "we don't think you are ready for this" but I finally stopped, spent some time thinking and realized, I will do ANYTHING to make this surgery successful. "anything" means to me that if the psychologist didn't feel like I was ready, then I wouldn't be. And that would be the same as going into surgery with a calander with a date circled for when I thought I could get away with eating "cheat" foods. Trust the experts to know what you can and can't handle. The last thing any of us needs is to be unsuccessful at another weight loss attempt. Best of luck! -
How Quick Did You Receive Your Surgery Date?
mommymar replied to CandiKiss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a call from my surgeon the day I was approved. I had a 14 day pre op diet. I was given 16 day notice. -
Hurting....when Does It End?
mommymar replied to Luwanna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pain continues for a few weeks but, the terrible "what did I do" pain was only a week. You are getting there. Just take it easy. -
Changes In Body Temperature... Normal?
mommymar replied to AmberK1026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So assuming you are not anemic, when you reduce your caloric intake your body stops using stored calories to keep you warm. It starts using those collectors to protect vital organs which is what it should have been doing all along. So it is a good sign for us to be cold. If we are healthy in all other ways. Going from hot to cold though. That I don't know :-) -
Go to a pharmacy or medical supply store. The amount of time you had it on shouldn't have been an issue unless you are allergic to the tape. You can call the pharmacy etc to see if they carry "paper tape" it is what they put on those that are allergic. (I love that paper tape personally) it's good to keep it covered if that is what your doc wants. Good luck!

Rodswife- you just made my whole day! My hubby just looked at me and said, you need done protein? Thanks for the laugh. -
Sleeved on the 7th. Total of 30lbs down. 19 since the sleeve. That is only 3 weeks! Thrilled with my sleeve. I haven't been able to exercise the last 3 days, due to pain in my right side hurts when I walk and breathe. :-(
