I'm sorry about your sister.. BUT, my life was saved by having sleeve surgery. Perhaps people should be warned against the medical staff that ignored your sister's symptoms as well as the risks of surgery.
I knew the risks, but I was willing to take them and not be confined to a dialysis unit, cane, and eventually a hospital bed due to obesity related illnesses...
I'm glad you posted your sister's story and there are several on this board who have had severe complications.. A few may even regret surgery.. but what thing is life is 100% favorable all the time? Nothing... People should read your story and make an informed decision about what they want to do.. Blessings and thoughts of healing toward you and your sister...

Sorry to hear about your sister but I'm sure she knew the risk going into the surgery. We all have fears and worries about the surgery but we also counter those fears with the fact that most of us here are past the threshold of exercising the weight off or dieting. I guess what I'm saying is she had the surgery for her health and unfortunately do to some "borderline neglegence", she had a bad turnout afterwards, I don't she's representitive of the majority of people that have had it. I wish you both the best but to say don't have the surgery because of her outcome isn't fair to those that are pre-op or considering.

I've had a pretty uneventful recovery! I've tolerated every stage well and I'm able to get my Protein in pretty much every day now. Still working on getting ALL my Water in, but that's just bc I get busy at work and forget to drink.
I don't weigh I'm between doctors appointments so I'm not sure how many pounds I've lost to date (I was down 22.5 at my 6 week check up) but I'll find out on Tuesday and I'm nervous!!
I'm down from a size 24 jeans to an Old Navy size 18 skinny jeans!!! I got choked up in the dressing room. I'm such a dork...

MOST of these "protein" shots do not contain bioavailable Protein, which means that your wasting your money and punishing your taste buds for no reason!
    OTR, where are you???

And they also leave out that celebrities have a cook on hand to prepare (or deliver) their food, personal trainers to come to their homes and work one-on-one with them using a personalized exercise plans, nannies to take care of the new babies (and/or other children) AND no clock to punch on a daily basis!!
Hell, I'd be thin, too, if I had nothing to do all day but work towards it!

I was irritable and cranky a few weeks out, too! When you post on a public forum, you have to take the "bad" with the good.

What were your expectations? Did you have a psych consult prior to this surgery? Sounds like you were not prepared for the changes you would face. Unfortunately for you this is not reversible as far as I know so best embrace it however you can and pick yourself up.

Sometimes tough love can be good but maybe I was a bit harsh. However, your initial post was all negative, negative, negative, which can become a bit hard to take when you are battling this yourself and trying to stay positive.
I apologize and I hope you will forgive me and I will forgive your ignorant comment about my country and those who live here.

I am totally amazed at how many people have this surgery and then whinge and whine about it. Didn't you do your homework? Didn't you do it so you couldn't eat so much food anymore and lose weight. Get some maturity and strength and embrace the decision you made. Maybe you can't eat so much anymore but you might live long enough to see your children grow up. Look at your priorities and see that food is not at the top of the list.

Old Navy is having one of their crazy sales and I got shirts for $3.49, $2.99 and $.47!!!!

Thanks for the support, ladies. It means a lot. Sometimes this food thing is a lonely place to be. I'm trying to be brutally honest with myself and my crazy, unhealthy behaviors.
I'm ready to give up my excuses (alcoholic father, mother married 5 times, moving so much when young, blah, blah, blah) and take responsibility for my CHOICES.
food was always there for me; a constant in my crazy life and the way my grandmother (another constant) showed love. Eating something yummy (read: bad for me) made me feel good and being full (stuffed!) made me happy. I struggle every day, but I've been to enough AA crap to know that all you can do it take it one day at a time.
And some days, I can only take it 15 minutes at a time! But I'M DOING IT!! I have to. I have three beautiful, young children and an amazing husband who NEED and love me!!
