  1. I have just glanced thru this book that I finally got and am pissed that I didn't get it pre band, it has some fantastic recipes that I could have used for my soft, mushy, full liquid phases. I can't wait to try some of the recipes!!!! Recommend it to all those getting banded before you get banded. (I purchased mine off a link on the bottom on lapbandtalk).

Getting First Fill in 2 Days!!! SCARED!!

You should be fine, mine put a bit of lidocane (freezing) for my first 2 fills and not sure if it helped or not, but there was no pain.

    Just 4 days Post-Op

Lots of walking, gas x,heating pad and peppermint tea should help the gas. I am almost 4 months out and have JUST stopped burping like it is my job (I still burp, but not like the first 2 months) Good luck.

    Feeling just awful...

I know that every surgeon is different, but in my surgery manual it was specifically highlighted in caps not to use meat tenderizer..........could cause ulcers. Good luck to you.

ok, I'm almost 3 days post op

Lots of walking and a heating pad.............I found it was better if I stood up. Sorry to tell you mine lasted about 6 weeks, coming and going periodically.
  6. I had my 3rd fill on Dec 14th and just this past week, I am finding that it is harder for me to eat bread (thin rounds toasted). I am not getting stuck, but every so often need to drink something to push it down, I can feel it in my chest and it is not pretty. Prior to now, I was toasting thins for sandwiches.......guess I will have to concentrate more on chewing and little bites, or find something else. Glad to be on my way .................

    Too soon for scar therapy?

I had breast reduction surgery YEARS ago and I do recall that my surgeon gave me something in a pill form to help with the scaring...............don't remember what, but if you didn't know it, you couldn't see my scars.

    Too soon for scar therapy?

I'll consider mine battle wounds of a war that I will surely win.
  9. Hope everything goes okay. On a lesser scale, once I started drinking coffee again (Canada's Tim Hortons) things have been moving along quite nicely...............yikes.

I cut mine and swallowed with water, you should be fine.

What if i dont want to diet?

I am 3 months out and not at restriction so in all reality I am on a diet, because my band is not working for me. And I figure I will be 'on a diet' (eating good choices, sticking to 1 cup of food per meal and 1200 calories per day) for the rest of my life. Call it a diet, call it healthy eating, call it good choices......it is never going to be the way it was pre band. You mentioned specifically chips and cookies. What I have read from the vets on here that chips and cookies and cakes are the easiest things to eat in quantities being banded because they are considered sliders foods, meaning they slide on right thru. So I am not sure the band will stop you from eating a bag of chips or a sleave of cookies. It really does have to be your willpower. Good luck to you.

    Lunch

My fav is the zucchini tots, love them.............might try to incorporate them in to christmas dinner.

    I just wanna cry

You are only one month out, still healing and probably not at restriction. I am 3 months out and am on a diet, the scale is barely moving, waiting for the fill that puts me at restriction. This is a long journey and giving up now will not even give your band a chance to work.

    Lunch

meatballs, easy to microwave with a bit of bbq sauce. Go onto www.emilybites.com lots of good ideas for muffin tin recipes
  15. Gas x, heating pads and lots and lots of walking around.............I had the pains come and go for about 8 weeks, good luck. The walking does help.

So I had chicken for lunch...

My manual from my surgeon specifically said never to try meat tenderizer as a method to get unstuck........never.........could cause ulcers. I would double check that.
  17. I have never had a stuck episode, but I believe that you should be on liquids for 24-48 hrs.Good Luck.
  18. My port is underneath (pretty much) my biggest incision. Mine is above a a wee bit to the left of my belly button. Please take it easy, I wasn't allowed any exercise for 6 weeks. He used the phrase 'pop a stitch' which stuck with me. Even the pushing and pulling could be too much so try to take it easy.........good luck
  19. You are healing and probably starving your body so it is holding onto everything..........things will happen.

what to expect for first fill?

If you go by my experience after a first fill you should expect nothing to change, after the second full, nothing changed and after the 3rd fill, nothing changed. You should never expect to vomit, that can be real bad. After each fill I have to be on liquids for 24hrs, mushies for 36hrs. There is no pain (or shouldn't be) and you need to continue to chew, take small portions and bites and hope for restriction. I am hoping 4th time is the charm. Good luck.

    Can you please help me?

I had my band put in on Sept 17th and since then I have been on a diet (and we all know how those worked for us pre band). I lost 19lbs in my preop and 1st week post op and then have been slow going since. I have not gained anything, but have counted every calorie that goes in, sticks to 3-4 oz protein, 1 cup or 8oz of food, regardless if I am still hungry or not and tries to drink drink drink........... I just had my 3rd fill and anticipate I will probably need at least 2 more before restriction. Until then, I continue to diet.

    Gastric reflux

I haven't taken a tums or antacid since the day I started my pre op.

    No Beans-Why??

I was allowed beans on the mushy phase and the second time I ate them I had the worst pains for 24hrs, I had them for dinner and had to leave work at noon the next day because I was so bloated, gassy and in pain. That was 2 months ago and haven't tried them again since. (mushrooms did the same things for me too - they are also off the list)
