What province are you in? I am in Ontario and paying $16,000..........OHIP or health insurance covers nothing. The most I can hope for is a tax refund.

How Important Are Carbs In Post Op Diet, Banded 7/25, Protein Ideas?
wildrose1966 replied to 2savemylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you add protien powder to your soups, yoguart, applesauce and pudding............protien will fill you up and you can lay off the carbs. A blender, greek yoguart, pro. powder and fruit would be a good start, you should try making your own, save $$ from buying them -
How Soon After Surgery Did You Add Things Like Liquid Grits, And Watery Soft Foods?
wildrose1966 replied to 2savemylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I posted this yesterday for someone...........I haven't had surgery yet, but these are my guidelines from my surgeon From what my surgeon has given me ( and everyone is different) post surgery Day 1 - Clear Liquids only Days 2-13 - full liquids - they should all pour out of a spoon at room temp (pudding, milk, low fat cream Soups, yogurt - no chunks), fudgesicles, smoothies - all low fat/sugar free Days 14-21 - above plus pureed and soft, blenderized food. consistancy of baby food Days 21-30 above, plus soft/moist diet, bananas, applesauce, canned fruit, ground meats, well cooked veggies, crackers, cooked Cereal, sugar free/low fat, This is just brief and an outline from my surgeon keeping in mind that at most stages need to get in 70 g of Protein and recommended Water intake..........I have a mandatory nutritional councelling session prior to surgery, should find out more. -
Hello Courtney, I am also in Canada, getting mine done in Sudbury in Sept. I think it is smart to take that time off work to let yourself heal, especially with heavy lifting.

I don't think I would be willing to risk not following the instructions based on the fact that I am doing this to save my life. I am also paying out of my pocket for this, so I have to be serious otherwise I am throwing $16K out the window. If it were not for my crazy work schedule, I could have done this last month, but the timing wasn't right. I am good with my Sept date. I am more nervous about the 2 week optifast than anything, but i have to do what I have to do.

I am scheduled for surgery for Sept, but in my handy dandy patient manual, I am not allowed to even try to eat normally for 31 days........liquids, then food that is liquid at room temp, week on mushies, then very soft. What were your dr's instructions??

I have had the ranch dressing and the creamy bacon dressing and they are quite good. I see that they have jams and toppings (caramel and chocolate) but I haven't tried. Thumbs up for the salad dressings though.

Help! My Co-Works Are Trying To Talk Me Out Of It.
wildrose1966 replied to cassiem93's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not engage in any further conversation with your coworkers. Let them know that this topic is off limits to you. (I have told 4 people besides my mother and sister and not alot of people have a come back when I said.......if I don't do this, I am going to die) -

When Did You Start Full Solids?
wildrose1966 replied to MissErni31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you not get instructions from your surgeons office. I can't really give advice as my banding isn't until Sept, but I received a 2 inch thick manual of all the do's and don't including a day by day, week by week eating instructions, including what was and was not allowed at the various stages of my recovery. I am guessing it will be my bible. I would be on the phone with your dr's office immediatly regarding your meal requirements. -
One of my first questions at my consultation was if anyone had died in thier clinic............we all go there sometime.

Price Of Surgery In Mexico From Toronto
wildrose1966 replied to Crush's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good for you for realizing you are in crisis. I have read that many people have gone to Mexico with good results. Have you thought about getting it done in Toronto so you can be close to home and have appropriate aftercare. Before going out of country, you will need to find a dr in TO who will take you on and do your fills. That could be difficult and costly as each fill costs. I am having mine in Sudbury (am sure pricing is same elsewhere) and it is $16,000 all in, patient for life, all fills, unfills and if there are any complications or the band needs to be removed, they will do it. I don't live close to Sudbury but because of family and recovery I choose to go there. I can't find a dr in my city to do fills from another surgeon so have to travel. Do your homework, with the most important thing being your aftercare. Many people have to go in for fills/unfills for 12 months before they are good to go. -

Banded In Ontario Canada
wildrose1966 replied to iriegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks.........guess you have to keep really busy or sleep through the 2 weeks. I am going to send in my form and deposit tomorrow for Sept date. Work, travel and their reduced summer schedule doesn't give me alot of options. How are you doing? Reads like everything is working just fine........congrats. -
Banded In Ontario Canada
wildrose1966 replied to iriegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bandster, I have had my consultation in Sudbury and just have to pick a date. They all seem very nice and nobody was pushy to get me to commit. Not keen on the optifast, might have to ask for a sample prior to purchasing 2 weeks worth........yikes. -
Cost Of Surgery If Insurance Does Not Cover The Band
wildrose1966 replied to phxcwgrl2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in Canada, $16,000 and I am a patient for life. All fills, unfills, if there is a problem and band needs replacing or if I choose to have it removed. Once I have it removed, I then would become a new patient again if I wanted it reinserted. -
Consultation Visit
wildrose1966 replied to Pinkskyy84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a consult on Friday, met with the nurse (who also does the fills), she went thru my medical history, family history, explained the surgery, answered questions, did measurements, then passed me to a patient care counsellor (who has had the procedure), who went over the timelines, procedure, cost (self pay), open dates and next steps. My clinic gave me a very thorough information kit and there was no pressure to secure a date. Once I select my date, I will have to do bloodwork, chest xray, ecg, and nutritional councelling.
