I know that I have to do it for 2 weeks and seem to think that mentally this will be harder than anything post surgery. I have my optifast tucked away in a corner, almost in denial that I will be drinking 4 shakes a day for 2 weeks. No pre tasting, practicing, just going into it on day one and start the shakes. During my 2 weeks on shakes, I have an out of country work trip, clients in town for 2 days, family in town for 2 days, so it will be interesting, but there is never a good time. This is all starting to become a reality.........yikes.

Vibration Exercises With The Lapband
wildrose1966 replied to stvnx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What is a vibration exercise?? -
I called my insurance about paying something towards surgery and nothing. OHIP considers it cosmetic. Even if there was a 50/50 copay so people were serious. I hope to get a bit back from income tax but that is about that. Having said that, can't put a price on my life.

If you go on Skyscanner it will search all the sites for you and give you options for lowest fares, let's you click thru to the applicable site.

I think you need to see another doctor.........this one seems very misinformed.......you can get more accurate info on google than you have with him. -

For Those Who Self Paid For Surgery
wildrose1966 replied to waiting&waiting's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in Canada, and once I decided, I pretty much had my pick of dates. Could have gotten in as early as 3 weeks. My summer schedule was crazy so I took 4 months, If you have the time and flexibility for appts etc, you should be okay for Sept. -
I think you are still about 2 weeks out from eating taco bell. You could do damage to yourself and your band.
-
I am not allowed anything with seed for at least 3 weeks, includes strawberries and blueberries.

Ottawa, being banded Sept 17th
-
I am getting banded on Sept 17th and have told 2 close friends who will be supportive, my mother, my sister, my boss and my coordinator......6 people, that is it. The first 4, because I knew that they would be non judgemental and supportive, the other 2 because I need the support on my professional side of my life. I am not embarassed that I have had to turn to the band, and I am sure down the road I will tell more peole. I just need to do this without people questioning, watching, wondering when it is going to 'work', and right now it is about me, and not about me educating them. It is going to be hard.......from liquid pre op to maintenance (7 weeks) I have 3 work trips and clients in town.......being in sales, there is always the entertainment factor, but I will be okay. I don't think it is anyone business but my own, and I know I need support. I will bring that in on my own time. I think I can fly under the radar for my pre op 2 weeks at work. Good luck to you!!!

I am allowed anything that runs off a spoon on day 2-14...........soups, pudding, yogarts, smoothies
-
I was just at the grocery store and bought some gatoraid - it was the 'recovery' kind with 16g of Protein per serving. I am a month out and just stocking up on stuff, so I have no idea if something that liquid with that much protien will help with hunger or not..........if anyone know, let me know. Have a feeling this might be good for the first few days post op - liquid. **I just looked and it has 13g of sugar........not sugar free, might save it for later, but something I would consider during recovery if I need to get liquids in.
-
Can you throw in a scoop of protien into your smoothie........might help with the hunger. I am not allowed to eat anything with seeds (strawberry/blueberries, for quite some time - maybe week 3). Try to get more protien in anything you eat, soup, smoothie, yoghart, puddings etc.

Started Pre-Op Diet Today
wildrose1966 replied to choosesuccess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you, I am 2 weeks behind you but on 4 shakes a day, 1 serving of fruit, 1 serving of veggies and sf popsicles, jello and that is about it............. -
Everything seems to be moving along fast and furious. I have my optifast, just found unjury protein powder which I hear alot of good things about, nutrition assessment coming up. I am already making excuses and turning down events from Sept 2 til after my 30 days post op............not sure how long or how good I will be keeping this to myself and my select circle. Anyone else in Sept?
-
No, had a consultation at the end of May, could have gone in June, July or Aug........but my schedule didn't work for the limited summer dates they had available, and summer is usually spent at the lake with family, so didn't want to put a damper on that. Met with the surgeon in July, had nutritional consult last week and pre op consult in 2 weeks then optifast Sept 2nd. I just have to go for my bloodwork in the next few weeks and all should be done.

Not The Daughter My Mother Wished I Would Be
wildrose1966 replied to newskinnygal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry to hear what you are going through. I am not sure how old you are or how dependent on your mother (ie do you live with her) but maybe it is time for some tough love back and standing up to her. No matter how much I loved my mother, it would not be acceptable to speak to me that way and she would certainly know it. Sometimes you have to make boundaries/rules and there has to be consequences if they can't respect you, or treat you with respect. I understand a bit, my mother is 110 soaking wet and is obsessed with exercise and her weight. If by chance she has a full on coke she nearly strokes out. She is a lifetime member of WW and still weighs in and the world is coming to an end if she gains 5lbs. Although she is supportive of my surgery, the zings still happen...........are you sure you can do this, i'm not sure you can change your habits, should you really be eating that, you need some exercise. Keep in mind I'm 45. Unfortunatly they never stop, but I have had to put the breaks on her a few times. Fortunatly for our relationship, she has never called me 'fat'. Congratulations to you for making the decision to have the surgery!!! -

1St Day Of Pre Op Diet And Question About Sils
wildrose1966 replied to Wisdom2KnowTheDifference's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with you, if you can't make it on day 1 of the pre requirements, you really need to take a long hard look at how you are going to change your habits for post band life. The band is not going to stop you from eating chocolate, chips, cake, sweets etc, because those are easy foods to eat with the band. You will need to be diligent to eat your 70g of protien, veggies, fruits at every meal and stop when you feel satisfied. i am sure that like me you have read stories how people were taken into surgery and woke up without having the procedure because of the fatty liver. I don't have advice as I am 2 weeks behind you, but just think of the end result, drink lots, get some sugar free popsicles, not sure if you can have fruit or veggies, but enjoy them if you can, go for a walk. I understand that the first 3 days are the hardest, so.........pull up those big girl panties, and tomorrow is a new day, start over and keep your eye on the prize. Having said all that, you might even see me here in 2 weeks with an identical post to yours......have a nutrition consult yesterday, and I am most freaked out by the 2 week on optifree, but will take it one day at time. Have a great day tomorrow. -
I had my nutrition consult yesterday and in addition to my 4 shakes/day I can have 1 serving of fruit and 1 serving of veggies. She said I could have banana's and could put it in my shake and try to make a smoothie out of it. Every clinic and every dr is different. I would call your dr's office.

They come in flavors as well. I had my nutrition consult today and she told me Oikos Key Lime was fantastic. I haven't done greek yog. yet, I am just going to jump in with both feet when the time comes.
-
Greek yoguart..........soft, lots of protien
-
i haven't had surgery yet, but did have my nutritional consult today.......you might need to get more protien in you to fill you up. I am not where you are yet and not sure I look forward to it but good luck.

OHIP doesn't cover lapband because it is reversable, they consider it cosmetic. They do bypass but there is a pretty long wait for that.
