  1. Everyone heals differently, just take care of yourself, follow your dr's instructions and don't be afraid to take your pain meds and keep ahead of the pain. Stay hydrated, move around and eat small 3oz portions every 3-4 hrs. I was banded on the 17th and am lucky that I didn't have pain (tightness and a bit of ache when I burb), didn't have gas (inside, outside burping and farting is a whole different story) and am moving pretty well. We are all different. Take care of yourself and congrats on your surgery.
  2. Congratulations, I am 3 days post op and feel really great, lucky enough not to get any pains.......keep it up, take it easy and sip that water.

    Victoria Bc, Introduction

I was just banded in Sudbury on Monday....welcome. (I had to travel for my surgery due to wanting to be close to family for recovery). So far so good. Seth, ask away. (I am only limited to 4 days of experience.) Good luck to everyone.

Very Sad - Not Covered By Uhc

I am in Ontario as well and just forked over the $16,000 - but like you, I am certainly worth it.

    A Love Affair

My out of pocket was $16,000, so that is incentive enough to make sure I follow the rules. I wouldn't go on liquids now as you will probably have to do them prior to surgery. I would make sure that when you visit your surgeon, you ask them what they suggest you do to make yourself in the best shape possible for surgery and recovery. Discuss sleeve and band with a surgeon and decide what is the best for you and your lifestyle. This is a very personal decision and once you are under the knife, you better be committed and can't even think about the what if's and cheating. You should be weighting and measuring all of your food, we tend to overmeasure. If you can even join WW for a while it is a good way to learn good eating habits, how to measure everything and track what you eat, which is important for surgery. Good luck with your decision.
  6. Congratulations on being banded. I was banded on Monday and am totally opposite from you. I had 3oz of yogort and 3oz of carnation bfast drink yesterday plus a freezie and Water. Today I had about 5oz of bfast drink and 3oz of yogort and think I am good for a while. My stomach is growling like a monstor and I am burping like a 9 yr old boy but am not hungry whatsoever. I am almost too full to drink, but have to keep sipping my water. Keep drinking, that would probably fill you up and get some high Protein foods into you today. Greek yogort was pretty thick and I had to add some powder stool softener to it - good times here - but could add extra Protein Powder to Soups, yogorts, puddings.......once I get more hungry, I will sprinkle protein powder in everything, until I can chew my protein. Good luck to you and just keep busy and sip away the day.
  7. I would make sure that you line up a dr to do fills for you before you go thru the surgery and I would make sure that the surgeon is okay with it and that a local dr will take patients that he did not perform surgery on. I am also self pay and a 'patient for life' fills, unfills, removal if need be etc, I would hate to see any of that become void if I went to another dr. I had a patient care coordinator at my clinic and I was a bit manic the months leading up to my surgery with questions and emails.......you won't think of everything for this appointment, make sure you have a contact at the surgeons office that you can get information from.

Has This Happened To Anyone Before??

My nurse called me after my surgery this week and told me that she had been to a conference re lapbads and the main point of discussion was around micro fills....only filling around .25 per fill (once they were close to being at the sweet spot) Not sure if this is going to become the new norm.

    Help

My nutritionist has told me once I am healed and eating on maintenance 900-1200 calories daily with 70g of Protein. I asked if I should be more concerned w calories or protein and she said protein is most important. Foods high in protein tend to have better nutritional content. You are not even 2 weeks from surgery, so concentrate on protein, Water and healing. good luck to you.

    Help !

You are not suppose to be losing, you are suppose to be healing. Your band is most likely empty and not working for you right now. And with the minimal calories you have been eating for the last month your body is just grabbing onto them and holding them as it is not sure when it will be nurished again properly. Don't worry, you will be fine, take care of yourself.

    Surgeon Etiquette

Mine looked in on me when I was awake ask me about pain and how I felt, told me that everything went great. I got a call from the head nurse the next day checking up on me, she will be my main point person from here on in, doing fills and appts.

I Made It - Post Op Day 5

Good for you. I am only 2 days post op, on the table at 8am, home by noon. I have 5 incisions, and slept perfectly on my side the first night. It is a production to switch sides, but thank god sleeping has not been a problem. Stopped pain pills today as I was never really in pain, but am keeping them close just in case. I am burping like a truck driver every time I stand up and today have started passing gas (farting), no shoulder pains so I guess I am lucky so far. My problem is that today is first day of full fluids and I cannot drink one more ounce. I have hardly had anything today.....3oz greek yoguart, 1 peppermint tea and about 1/3 of an ensure protein drink.....I couldn't even sip water now without feeling uncomfortable - although I will try. I might have to pull out the leftover optifast shakes to to get some more protein in. Had a nice walk today and might have to nap, then my mother is taking me out to visit my grandmother in the nursing home......that should be exhausting. You sound like you are doing just great, don't push it with work and take care of yourself. I was told heating pad, peppermint tea and gasx for the gas......I have been od'ing on all 3 since I got home.
  14. Just a note on cucumbers, I was stictly told nothing with seeds......cucs, strawberrys, blueberrys, I don't think those come in until about 3 weeks post op. Good luck, you will do just fine.

    Liquid Pain Killer

I am 2 days post op and they told me to cut them, no bigger than an m&m.

    Surgery In Am!!!!!

    Good luck to you!!!!
  17. I have been waiting for 2.5 weeks to have something besides Optifast and Clear liquids and this morning I found myself afraid to eat........what if it didn't settle, what if I vomited etc etc. I got down 3oz of greek yoguart (mixed w 2tsp of laxitive powder - yummo) and all seems good in the world. phew. Stomach is rumbling like mad, but will wait a few hours and have a carnation instant Breakfast drink (3-5oz). Who would have ever imagined I would be afraid to eat!!!!

Afraid To Eat.......2 Days Post Op

I know I am my own worst enemy with worrying. I am doing great, off the pain killers (but not letting them go too far) did not have any pain at all from surgery, am sleeping on my side and apart from burping no real gas issues either. My nurse called yesterday and was shocked. But taking it easy and losing steam by mid afternoon. Today will go outside for a nice walk and fresh air. And sip sip sip. Thanks
  19. I did 14 days, 4 shakes a day......extra cold, blended with ice and drank thru a straw made it bearable. I added instant coffee to the vanilla ones and many others have used flavors from starbucks etc. Good luck.
  20. What is your pre op diet?

    September 18...today Is The Day!

I was banded yesterday, feeling just fine. I can honestly say I have had zero pain. (but am taking my meds to stay ahead of potential pain) Good luck and take it easy.

    Excited Newbie!

Oct 9th, what a perfect date, my birthday Congratulations on making the big step. I was banded yesterday and look forward to my future.

    Finally Banded!!

Congratulations, I think there are about 4 of us who were banded yesterday. I have had a pretty easy go of it. Staying ahead of my pain with meds, and apart from a wee bit of gas pressure in my chest (burping gets rid of) and your standard ache from your surgery area, I am doing great. Napping lots, slept well, trying to get up and about. Take care of yourself and have a great day!

    Banded 17 Sep 2012

I was banded yesterday as well......on the table at 8 and home by noon. I feel pretty good, a bit discomfort like sore abs x4 from gym and bruising but no pain. I am taking my oxycodone on schedule yesterday and today to stay ahead of the pain, on my anitbiotics and gave myself my first of 7 needles. I slept most of the night last night and even managed to sleep on my side. So all in all, I am alot better than I thought. Glad you are feeling good and make sure to get that Water in and walk around. Take care of yourself!!!
  25. I have a very supportive family, but when I told the 6 people that know.......I told them 'if I don't do this, I will die' - not many can argue with that statement - I am a very healthy fat person and not on meds for anything and no history of anything in my family, but I am terrified that I won't live to see my neices and nephews grow up. I am scared that I will be trapped in my house, because I won't have the motivation or energy to do anything......this is for me. (and my size 4 mother who is my biggest supporter and biggest critic has been surprising good - I loaded her with information and reading materials) I am day 1 post op at her house for the week and she has just measured my Water for the day. Yesterday she wanted me to wear a whistle just in case I needed her - I am 45, we will always be children in their eyes.
