Need suggestions of Puree foods for Puree Diet
wildrose1966 replied to MysticalSoulss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Limit your mashed potatoes.......no nutritonal value. My fav meal was chicken in a blender, I threw in a bit of non fat gravey for moisture and some laughing cow cheese, came out the consistancy of peanut butter but it was tasty and great protein. Chicken salad, tuna salad, refried beans with a bit of pasta sauce or sour cream. Lots of choices. Add cottage cheese to your soups and put it in the blender, a nice taste and boost of protein. good luck. -
Talk to your dr about how you are feeling, you don't have to get a fill if you are not comfortable with the timing of it. 3 weeks out you are still not eating a full diet so it is hard to gauge your hunger and fullness. Good luck.

Any post op recommendations?
wildrose1966 replied to readyforthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Peppermint tea - for gas, heating pad - for gas, stool softeners. I had a list and people will add so much more than you really need. I probably spent $100 on stuff I threw out or didn't need. Protein powder I couldn't stomach, protein drinks I poured down the sink, more soup than I ever use. I am sure you don't live in a 3rd world country and are probably close to the grocery store, so don't freak out too much, just have stuff to make yourself comfortable. Stool softeners will make you comfortable. Maybe test some protein drinks prior to surgery. GNC has a 30 day return policy. -
so frustrated 4 weeks post op
wildrose1966 replied to melidawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 months out and could probably eat a burrito, but as I am pretty much on a diet right now, I count my calories, my protein and only put 4oz of protein on my plate with some veggies and maybe a small carb. Regardless if I am still hungry or not when I am finished, I am finished. I wait an hour, dring lots of water and snack on fruit or veggies if I am still hungry. Your first 6 weeks are for healing and getting into some good habits. My first fill didn't come for 6 weeks and it was 1cc, 1cc, 1cc,1cc.........5 months, 5cc's. It is a journey not a sprint. -
I took me 4 to feel a bit of restriction, I think 5 will be the green zone.

Not losing weight
wildrose1966 replied to wozzicat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am like Tiggergramma, surgery in Sept, have lost 33.........19 was pre op and 1 week after. You will not stretch your pouch with liquids, they go right on through. -
hungry 10 days out
wildrose1966 replied to msseven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably not sorry to say. I have had 4 fills and am less hungry than I was after 3 fills. Try to up your protein, keeps you full longer and drink lots of water. -
Sounds like you might be too tight, would perhaps think of getting some removed.

I have my mp3 with good music and really good headphones and just go.........so much easier with good music. -
Depends on the type of kayak, the get inside and cram your legs in might be tough....depends how big your legs/thighs are..............the sit on top is better. The get inside kind, you also have minimal room to bend your knees, so you do have to use your arm strength to get in and out. If it was me at my current weight, I would take a pass...........just in case. You won't sink the boat............

I bought the clear ensure drink and couldn't gag down one, dumped the other 3 down the sink, couldn't even handle the smell.........again very personal choice, I have a sensitive taste and smell and have not found anything I can stomach besides Optifast.

Protein shakes are a very personal thing. GNC has a 30 day return policy on everything -even if it is opened. Perhaps there or another nutrition store might be able to sell you sample sizes of some of the product to test out. Unfortunatly for me the only protein drink I can handle is the Optifast that is sold thru my dr's office - expensive, but it is only a back up for me..........I try to eat and not drink my protein. good luck to you.

Can you walk? Good music and headphones and walking is considered exercise. Winter walking on a sunny day is wonderful. Good luck and be patient.

I had surgery in Sept and have not tried pork or rice yet........

Addicted to Crystal Light-plain water gags me
wildrose1966 replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a big mio fan the liquid flavors, but watch out, I sadly discovered that they are not so good for your teeth, loaded with citric acid. My dentist noticed unusual wear on my teeth and asked if I was a grinder or if I drank alot of fruit juice..........no to both, but then looked on the ingredients for mio - citric acid...........booooo -
had surgery Tuesday
wildrose1966 replied to buttabean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pepperment tea, heating pads and I found if I got the pain while I was sitting, it did help to stand..........good luck. -
Don't worry about anything until your next appointment. My clinic doesn't pull out during fills - the first one only to see what was left after surgery (I guess they would if there was need for concern) - she says it isn't good for the band emptying and filling..........who knows, I can't figure out all the different rules for different clinics There is nothing you can do until the dr confirms that all is good.

Shoulder pain came and went for about 2 months............good luck. -
oh, you will know................ Even though I have just had some mini, slowly going down, feels like stuck episodes, you will feel the food stuck in the middle of your breastbone. It either comes up or goes down. Hurts more going down. I have had mini stucks where a sip of water pushes it thru. The more experienced will have to talk about full on stucks.

? for those who dine as part of business in the post op stage
wildrose1966 replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Continental sometimes includes yoguart.......or just bring your own. Or make a protein shake and bring it to the breakfast.........if anyone asks, it is a protein shake, 'nuff said. Steakhouse. I traveled about 2.5 wks post surgery. Soup should be on the appy menu, alot of places have a pasta option. I remember ordering pumpkin ravioli, I then cut out all the 4 edges of the ravioli and put it to the side, and ate the inside........purees pumpkin with a little of the pasta on the top and bottom. There was more pasta on the side of my plate than what I ate. Personally, I would eat before dinner and order soup as your main............if these people do not know of the surgery, I would just say you aren't feeling great soup is what you prefer. -
Pretty much, until you start eating regular foods again you are starving yourself. Your body is freaking out as it is not sure where the next meal will come from so it is holding onto everything and your metabolism has slowed right down. Your first 6 weeks are not for losing but for healing. A number of times I have read where people need to shock their system and perhaps for 2 days will up their calories to 1500 and then drop to 900 and then go back to 1200, it gets your body away from the same ole, same ole. You should also be walking, every day. good luck.

I was the best burper and farter IN THE WORLD for about 3 months post op. I just had a fill last week and the burping has started again, like it is my job. Pretty normal for us banded, as long as nothing is coming up or out.

How long after surgery, before you can work out?
wildrose1966 replied to dani_nyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 weeks, no exceptions, no discussion at my clinic. Your band and port are sewn into place and although you feel good, you are still healing inside. You can walk. Good set of headphones, good music and walk away. Don't risk it, it is not worth it. -
I would go plop myself down in the hospital waiting room tomorrow That way you are there. Good luck to you, I am sure things will work out.
