    I Need A Fill

24lbs in a month is great. You are still healing and should be focusing on that, no losing right now. Keep up the walking that is wonderful exercise!!! Slow and steady.

    2 Days Post Op

Try to get off the pain meds if you can, get some stool softener in you (seriously), walk around and get those liquids in. 2 days post op, you are still full of the drugs and anesthetic from the surgery, do what you can, but keep moving.

    Hospital Stay

I remember waking up in recovery and for about 20 min I contiplated asking the nurse to hold my hand........that was the only thing in the world I wanted, was for her to hold my hand. I didn't ask.
  5. Get a digital scale and weigh everything - you will be surprised how much 3oz of meat is. I had my scale at the place I was staying for surgery (measured Jello, Soup and yogurt 2 days post op) and forgot it there. Panic set in and had to buy another one yesterday. I am not good at eyeballing. Eat your Protein first, drink lots of Water between meals. Good luck to you.

    Hospital Stay

I was on the operating table at 8am and home by noon. It was nice to be home, I laid out on the deck in the sun for a bit, walked around for a bit, and slept in my own bed. Everyone is different, but home was just way more comfortable. Gas X, Heating pad and peppermint tea are said to work for the gas. (I only got my first gas pain yesterday - 8 days post op........but that was after a 6hr car ride the day before, and 8hrs in the office yesterday - didn't pay attention to the walking around - thought I was in the clear) Do what makes you comfortable.

    Can't Burp

I bend over and I fart, I stand up and I burp, the noises coming out of me are enough to make a 10yr old boy stand up and cheer, and think I am really cool..............8 days post op and am still bloated and swollen in the stomach, but no problem with the gas..........good luck to you........
  8. I have had a pain free, gas free recovery........up until about 4pm today.....Thought I kinked my shoulder a bit, muscle pain, and it got worse and worse and I realized that I have gas pain (really bad) under my shoulder blade....oh my. No deep breaths or standing up straight. Sucking back the gas-x, peppermint tea and walking around - I knew I couldn't get away with such a good recovery.

This is my very first does on pain since surgery, I had zero pain until now. I managed to shave my legs in the sauna the other day, so I might be good for a few...........at least it is fall up here so not alot of shorts. I can bend at the waist but not scrunch at the chest...........

    Banded 9/24/12

I am 8 days post op and took the pain killers day of and day after on schedule just to keep ahead of pain, if there was going to be any. You need to walk a few times a day, even if it is down the driveway and back. You do need to worry about BM, especially if you are taking the painkillers, I was on full liquids 2 days post op and added stool softener to everything.........clinic warned me if I didn't take care of it, it could be trouble. Pooped 4 days post op and had a day of the runs (probably od'd myself) but all is okay for now.

    New

I am 8 days post op and back to work. I was going stir crazy sitting around the house. Went out for good walks a few times a day, caught up with family and friends. As someone else said, I am burping like it is my job. Surgery kicks you and the faster you can get off the pain pills, get moving around the clearer your head will be. Be gentle on yourself, take it one day at a time!!

Does It Have To Be Optifast ?

I have been on liquids for 3 weeks, the cravings are not that strong, but I would lick a cheeseburger if it was in front of me. I paid too much for this surgery not to be serious about my life changes. Post surgery, I haven't really been hungry at all.

    Am I A Liar?

Have you been eating healthy? Have you been exercising? - there you go, your response. We keep saying that the band is a tool and you have to do the work, take credit for the work.

Does It Have To Be Optifast ?

I am feeling fine, I was super lucky, no pain at all from the moment I woke up, no gas pains (lots of burping and farting) and only did the pain killers post op day 1, napped for 2 days, slept on my side for 9hrs the first night........ I could have gone back to work last Thursday, but took a week off. I wouldn't start shakes before required, just try to eat smart and healthy. You will be on a restrictive diet for at least 6 weeks pre and post, no use extending that. I was given no expectations on what to lose pre op and post op is for healing.......

Does It Have To Be Optifast ?

Just follow the plan and you will be okay. The preop diet is to shrink the liver.........in overweight people, the liver tends to be very fatty and it is a delicate organ that has to be moved during surgery, so they just want everything to be right. I came thru surgery with flying colors and recovery was a breeze, I was still worried about my liver and at my 1wk post op today, I even asked about the liver, she said it was just fine.

    Nutrition After Lap Band

I think everyone is different, mine is 70g of Protein and within 900-1200 calories. I think it was just obvious that, that ment low fat/carb, good food choices. My nutritionist said good protein choices tend to be good nutritional choices. Worry about good protein first and the calories and all the rest should fall into place. A chat with a nutritionist would be good for you.

    I Am Freaking Out!

Do you have it in writing from your insurance company??? You certainly don't need this pressure, fingers and toes crossed that everything works out.

Does It Have To Be Optifast ?

I think optifast is the decision of the surgeon. It was horrid the first 2 days, then it got to be pretty good.....had to manipulate the vanilla one a bit - decaf instant coffee. I even asked if I could go back on it (1 a day) post op......better than most of the other protein shakes I have personally tasted. I never thought I would say this but I just bought 2 more boxes of chocolate, to help me get thru until I am maintenance (plus helps with all the travel I do for work).
  25. I am burping like a monster. Not sure how long that would last. I was banded on Monday and I have not been able to eat much and am nowhere near 70g of Protein. I called my surgeons office and they said not to eat if you are not hungry, do what you can. Protein shakes are good to get nutrition in. I am 6 days out and do yogurt in the morning 3oz, shake in the afternoon, probably 5oz and Soup at night 5oz. That is about all that is going in, lots of Water and drinks. Yesterday I finally felt hungry, patience.......good luck on your recovery.
