    I Have A Question

I was told no bigger than a m&m. I ended up cutting what I could in half.

    Is This Normal Or Okay?

I do not think it is okay, your dr gave you an eating plan for a reason, your stomach needs to heal, even if you feel good on the outside, chances are you are still swollen and stitches have not healed on the inside Trying to digest food right now is making your stomach work and they do not want it working. I have been banded for 12 days and am not allowed to eat mashed potaoes yet. If it falls off a spoon I can have it. shakes, smoothies, yogurt, pudding, Soup.........that is about it. Eat 3-5 oz every 3hrs, get a Protein shake in you, but don't mess with your healing. You ask if this will be successful in your weightloss.......if you can't follow dr's orders for your post op eating plan how are you going to adjust your eating with your band for life.............because we all know we can eat around the band. Sorry to be a bit harsh, but I paid $16,000 out of my own pocket for my surgery and there is no way I would risk throwing that money away because I was hungry..........I would just have another protein rich shake or smoothie Good luck to you.

Love Fall - Butternut Squash Soup

I eyeball everything so this is my best guesstimate, you really can't mess this up Saute 1 diced onion 2 tbsp minced garlic 2 tbsp oil 3 tbsp maple syrup Dice 2 butternut squash and add to onions, also add chicken broth, enough to cover and simmer. (I pierce my squash and put them in the microwave for 5 min each, softens them up, easy to slice and cut. (cut off the skin)) Let that simmer until all is soft and mushy. Add 2 boxes of chicken broth and simmer for an hour. (rest of broth from saute stage - 2 boxes total) Add 1c cottage cheese (I probably could have added more, but have never made it with cc before so didn't want to mess with th taste) Mix everything with a hand blender (the stick kind or throw it in a blender) Strain thru a strainer, anything left in the strainer, blenderize in a bullet or blender. Flavor with a pinch of nutmeg, ground pepper and salt. This made about 15 cups for me and I plugged it in myfitnesspal recipe builder. For 1.5 cups: 110 calories 21 g carbs 1g fat 7g Protein Enjoy!

    75 N Feels Not Enough

Go to the grocery store and pick up 8 - 10lb bags of sugar and walk around the place a bit (or walk around with a 9yr old boy on your back for the day.)..............bet you would have a hard time..............puts it into perspective a bit, you have done an awesome job. Keep up the good work.
  5. I slept on my side the day of surgery, lots of pillows strategically placed. Had to wake up and sit up everytime I needed to turn. Cough, probably from the surgery, drugs and tubes. Happy recovery.

    Pre-Op Weight Loss

I have the same problem, went back to optifast, that I did for presurgery. Once I can chew my protein, I should be good.

Love Fall - Butternut Squash Soup

My clinic recommended it as I have a real hard time with protein powder and protein enhanced foods. (carnation instant bfast, high protein puddings, drinks etc).

    Pre-Op Weight Loss

I was only required to do the 2 weeks Protein and there was no emphasis on weight loss it was just going in with a healthy liver and the will power to do it. I lost 9lbs on the 2 week liquid diet and 10 lbs from surgery to 1 week post op, I think I have gained 2-3 lbs back now that I am eating more that I was immediatly post op. I am sure that my body is in starvation mode and just hanging onto everything right now. But I am upping my calories and protein daily and start mushies on Wed - yippee. Good luck with your surgery.

Love Fall - Butternut Squash Soup

Yes, I usually put in a few tbsp of low fat sour cream to get it creamy, but the cottage cheese did the job, blenderized everything and added some salt, pepper and nutmeg..........

Oct 2Nd Is My Iband Day

If you can take the week off it might help you to heal better. I could not have gone back to work 2 days post op.....needed to nap, pain killers and anesthetic working its way out. I had bad gas (burping and farting) right away that lasted about a week or so. Gas pains (shoulder) happened on day 8, for 1 day. Lost of walking and fluids. Good luck to you.

    Shoulder Blade / Back Pain

Chances are it is gas. I was banded 9/17 and had gas pains in my left shoulderblade, mid back. Was okay sitting and sleeping, walking - ouch.

    3 Weeks Post Surgery?

I am 2 weeks out and my stomach is still pretty puffy and swollen, and you can tell in some clothing. My gas, burping and farting, have pretty much gone but I know I have not lost in the last week, actually gained 2lbs back. I think my body is holding on tight to everything it is getting, thinking I am starving it. Am still on full liquids for another 4 days and then looking forward to mixing it up a bit and starting to eat my protein, not drink it. I was down 19lbs last monday from the beginning of pre op and 10 of that was from 7 days post surgery, where I virtually ate nothing. I have not noticed a big change as it come to clothing. But not worried........as I am healing right now.
  13. Frozen yogurt, skinney cow ice cream sandwich..............if that is what you are craving, don't deny, just don't over induldge............have what it takes to make you satisfied then walk away.

    Itchy Itchy Itchy Itchy!

I am also 11 days post op and today I am super itchy, not the incisions, but everywhere around them..........where the steri strips where...actually just around my big incision, not so much the smaller ones I am going to put something on the skin, not the incisions. My strips have been off for a week, and the nurse did say that if when I took them off they where red I could use polysporin, so you should be good. Good luck to you.

Hows The Pre Op Diet Going?

When I was on my pre op, after day 1, I went and bought a bag of straws, I couldn't stand the smell.....lots of ice in a blender, straws and even a bit of flavoring (sf syrups, defcaf instant coffee). It does get better.

    Feeling Good!

    Congratulations..........
  19. My clinic did not want me alone day of and day after surgery, I am not sure I would have been traveling while still on painkillers. It is a tough call because you have no idea how you will be feeling, everyone is different. Some haven't been able to get out of bed for 7 days and other back to work 3 days post op. Is there anyone in TO you can stay with for a few extra days? I can't imagine that you will be reimbursed for travel costs, as you chose the clinic you are going to and I would imagine that there are clinics much closer to your home. You can however claim all of your expenses on your income tax for a refund. Good luck to you and safe travels.

    This Is It!

The day of my surgery the OR nurse looked at me and said 'are you excited', I looked at her like she had 3 heads.......no I wasn't excited, nervous as heck.

    New Chapter Started Today!

I think I was one of those very very lucky ones.......didn't have an ounce of pain, and had gas for 6hrs on day 8 post op. I was off meds on day 2 and slept the whole night on my side the day of surgery. I only napped post op days 1 and 2 and that was the only time I was in bed. I figured if I was in my own city, I could have gone back to work on day 3. So I do think I am a very rare case of quick and fast recovery, and I am thankful for that. I really did feel great from day 1. Day 7, I drove 7hrs in a car, alone. Take your time and do what you can......we all heal differently, but you really do need to get moving around. It is easier to walk with someone.....even if it is hunched over and shuffling (there was no power walking, just getting one foot infront of the other)

    This Is It!

Good luck to you, you will be fine.

    New Chapter Started Today!

I was up walking up to 45min in the first week. Put on the headphones and just went.........you should be going for little walks many times a day as soon as you come home from the hospital, they really want you moving.....even if it is to the end of the driveway. good luck!!!
  25. Did your dr recommend the 100 calorie Muscle Milk? I am no expert but that just doesn't seem like enough nutrition. I was on 4 shakes a day - 225 cal each w 23g of Protein, that was pretty much it, 1 fruit, 1 veggie, so close to about 1000cal day in pre op. I would call your dr's office just to reconfirm that these shakes are appropriate. Having said that, I was hungry for about 3 days, then it just goes away..........day 1-2 were the hardest.
