It does get better. I never had any gas pain until post op day 8, and then again at 16. It seemed to come if I had been sitting alot. As soon as I stood up and walked it helped. I was popping gas x and had the heating pad on continously the first week, just in case. Lots of walking and sipping. I would stay away from the ice cream and look at sugar free Jello, yogurt and pudding instead. Add some Protein to your food if you can and it will help you stay hungry longer. Good luck ladies, it does get better.

Adding Protein Back In...but Think I May Be Doing It Wrong.
wildrose1966 replied to smbonier's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing fine. I think my first week post op I averaged about 250 calories a day, I called my clinic as I wasn't getting the protein in and they said not to worry about that now, just make sure I am hydrated and walking around. As the swelling goes down, you will find yourself eating/drinking more. -
When I hit the pureed and blenderized stage, I threw 3oz of chicken breast in a blender with a bit of jarred gravy. It was the consistancy of peanut butter, but it was oh so good.

Banded Yesterday. Some Concerns. Help!
wildrose1966 replied to kband72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 + weeks post op and although I did lose weight my first week post op, I haven't lost a pound since. I have since put the scale away and concentrate on eating and healing and walking..........I will worry about the scale once I am eating on maintenance and getting fills. There was a whole thread here recently and majority of people are not losing inthe first 6 weeks. Your body is starving, your metabolism has stopped and is hanging onto everything. Pain, yep............that will go away, take care of yourself. -
Can Not Tolerate Protein Drinks!!!!!
wildrose1966 replied to Lmi346's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my preop I had to do the Optifast, I didn't care for the vanilla so added decaf instant coffee, made it tolerable....lots of ice and pre op, drank thru a straw because I couldn't stand the smell. Post op, sticking with optifast chocolate. -

Questions If You Can Answer
wildrose1966 replied to Banderina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't allowed to drive for at least 48hrs and could not drive as long as I was still on the pain medication. I think I drove at about 4 days post op.....I stopped the pain meds the day after surgery. I could have NEVER gotten in a car the day after surgery let alone for 3 hrs. You are still all loopy from the drugs from surgery, from your pain meds, and quite frankly your insides are mess up and sore. My surgeon wasn't thrilled when I had to drive 6hrs 1week post op. -
Can Not Tolerate Protein Drinks!!!!!
wildrose1966 replied to Lmi346's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't do many Protein drinks either, carnation instant bfast - I had one, threw the other 3 away, returned stuff to GNC and gave away 2 big tubs of protein powder. I was on Optifast for my pre op diet and have returned to those when I need a protein boost. In the mushy phase, I would add blenderized cottage cheese to my soups for extra protein.......it gives it a good boost and nice flavor. Right now I am trying to eat my protein and with my optifast as my back up I am okay, but I do feel for you. I spent a fortune on trying to find the right Protein Drink - no luck. At least with GNC, you can return it if you don't like it. -

Beans - Big Big Mistake
wildrose1966 replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am perfectly fine eating 160 calories for 1/2 c beans when right now my 3 meals are 3-4 oz and my 2 Snacks are 1-2 oz and I am eating mush. I barely hit 1000 calories/day. However, I will not be eating beans again any time soon. Graduating to more real meats right now and that is a good thing. -
Beans - Big Big Mistake
wildrose1966 replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I am on pureed moving to soft, I just needed something different so beans it was. I am a new person today, gas is gone (and so are the leftover beans from my fridge). Thank you all............ -
Salad From Subway
wildrose1966 replied to rumcookie5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I think that you are missing important nutrients and Protein in your diet. A salad has pretty much nothing in it. Potatoes are carbs and an ensure drink is okay but in all reality you shouldn't be drinking your protein. I would think you should be eating your protein at every meal. If your salad had chicken in it and you ate the chicken first that would be great. Mashed potatoes are not a great choice. I am about 2 weeks behind you and am not sure I could do a salad. My instructions on salad is to introduce them very slowely. Good Luck -
Gas x , heating pad and walking will help. I am 3 weeks out and still get it occasionally. Good luck.

What Does A Tight Band In The Morning Feel Like
wildrose1966 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
or can you feel anything. I woke up this morning feeling full, gassy and uncomfortable. I am passing gas like a mad person. If I take a deep breath it feels tight under my chest bone like I feel like I ate too much and have indigestion or I am really hungry, can't decide. I am sure I am freaking a bit and it is just gas (had beans for dinner last night and they might not be settling with me). I haven't had anything to eat in 12hrs. I haven't tried to eat or drink. Or.................I am getting the flu that is going around - ugh. -
What Does A Tight Band In The Morning Feel Like
wildrose1966 replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have fluid in my band, I am only 3 weeks out. I almost feel like I did 2 days post op, just full and gassy........feels better when I stand. I know I am still healing, but I am sure those darn beans have something to do with it, and I am pretty sure the lunch I grabbed from the fridge has beans in it - yikes, I am sure I can find something else. I will just take it easy today. I also just moved to my next stage of eating, more solids, meat, crackers etc, so it could just be a shock to the system after being on liquids for over a month. Thanks ladies -
13 Days Post-Op And No Weight Loss. Completely Discouraged.
wildrose1966 replied to josiec111's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 3 weeks out and I did lose my first week post op, I haven't lost since. I understand that the food intake that we are at right now is slowing our metabolism, putting us into somewhat of a starvation mode and our body is holding onto everything. The first 6 weeks are for healing not losing. Once you start eating normal, exercising and get the right restriction, you should be fine. -
I'm So Frustrated 10-19-12 Surgery Cancelled!!
wildrose1966 replied to Back2Petite's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took personal time off because the HR person is the blabbermouth of the office. If I would have taken sick time you can bet she would have turned private eye. I would be through the roof crazy if I were you. Is there any way that you can sit down with your employer and discuss this, even taking the 6 weeks off in Nov is excessive. I work in an office, no lifting and could have probably gone back 5 days post op, I took a week and that was plenty. Good luck to you, consider it a hiccup in the road. -
Am I Crazy To Get Banded?? Only 25-30 Lbs To Lose.
wildrose1966 replied to janleefran's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded at ThinLife in Sudbury, top notch clinic, I had a great recovery, love the staff, any email or question is addressed within 4hrs.........No complaints. Good luck with your surgery. -
I would eat more protein or drink more protein, 2 weeks out you can still drink your protein.
