    Having Trouble With Liquids

You are almost half way through, congratulations. Try lots of ice, blended, maybe add some sugar free flavors, decaf instant coffee...........drink through a straw (if the protein smell gets to you). Keep busy, go for walks, get that water down. You are doing great.
  3. I am 4 weeks out and had special k and a banana for bfast, 1 Protein shake, 2 laughing cow wedges and 4 triskets, 6 turkey meatballs with diana sauce and 2/3c mashed potatoe. I am one week from maintenance but doing well. I think I can eat most anything (within reason) and just focus on protein then calories. I am still trying to figure out my veggies, but have has sweet potatoe, diced chicken, pumpkin Soup......... From what I read, alot of people can eat most everything their families do. Just focus on measuring and weighing portions.

    Recent Rocklanders???

    I don't know what a rocklander is?
  5. Just follow your dr's suggestions and you will be okay. All of our dr's will give us different suggestions so there is no right or wrong as long as you stick by the rules.
  6. No it would not be realistic. The average is 1-2 lbs a week which would be .4-.9 kilos a week. I would imagine that, that is the realistic healthy range. Losing 2 kilos a week may happen, but I wouldn't expect it to be the norm. This is all according to my surgeons office and the piles of documents and booklets I was given. Again every surgeon is different.

    Frustrated With It All!!

Do what you can. I made a call to my surgeons office the first week after surgery with the same question. They told me not to worry about it for the first 2 weeks. Concentrate on staying hydrated, eating what I can (add Protein to yogurt, Soup etc) and walk alot. Every surgeon is different, maybe just touch base with yours. Good luck to you.

    Newbie From Canada

Lucky you that the Quebec government covers it. I am in Ontario and just paid out of pocket. The waiting is the hardest. Good luck.
  9. Your first 6 weeks post op is about healing, not losing. Put the scale away. You may not lose until you are at proper restriction, which could be 6 weeks, 2 months or 5 months away. Just concentrate on eating according to your surgeons plan, walking and taking care of yourself. The first 3 weeks you will most likely be eating way under your recommended calories, don't worry about it right now. And yes this will affect weight loss as you are probably starving yourself and your metabolism has stopped. You body is holding onto anything you give it. Your body will probably kick back in when you are eating more regularly and close to maintenance. My first 2 weeks post op I probably ate under 500 calories a day and did not lose. Once I started eating more normal foods things just fell back into place. I think you can start c25k as long as you are feeling okay regardless of your weight, but not until you have been given the go ahead from your surgeon to start. Walking is okay, running is not. It will be about 6 weeks before you should do more than walking. Slow down, let your body heal, get your head wrapped around your new life and enjoy.
  10. No reflux, no tums. I think that because we are on a strict diet we are eating foods that would not cause reflux. I have not had alot of the foods I know caused me reflux since being banded, which isn't a bad thing.

    Mushy Question

I bought a rotissere chicken and yes put it in the magic bullet - not for long. I did about 3oz of meat, 1/2 oz on cheese and a few teaspoons of chicken gravy.........gave that thing a whirl and at the time after over a month of liquids, it was pretty awesome. I remember my first meal I just sat there smiling. Having said that, it is the consistancy of thick peanut butter and you don't really chew it, but it is not liquid and it tastes like chicken and was oh so good.
  12. My clinic used the phrase 'pop a stitch' (refering to my insides), that was enough to have me not even question my hunger or my dr's instructions............pop a stictch - ewwwwww

    Stomach Feeling Hard???

    Gas..............welcome.
  14. You might. Stick to your dr's orders for now. As you are on liquids keep sipping and slurping. Try to add some protein to your drinks, yogurt and soup and it will keep you full longer. Think you have another week to go. You can do it.

    Baby Food After Surgery?

I looked at baby food and the most protein I found in a little jar was not as much as the 22 grams of chicken or tuna, and the babyfood w fruit had no more than 2. It certainly does sound way more appetizing than blended meats, and I am sure it tastes better as well, but in terms of nutrition and protein can't beat meat. I would even do a protein shake or greek yogurt, that will get you more nutrition than baby food if you don't want pureed meat. After a month on liquids, 3 oz of pureed chicken with half an ounce of cheese with a few tbsp of gravy in a blender was the best thing I ever tasted. Pureed quickly becomes finely diced to diced and all becomes very good in the world.

    Baby Food After Surgery?

crap, I couldn't even quote you properly................
  17. Heating pad, gas x, stool softener.............anything else can be easily purchased at the local grocery. I was overstocked and didn't eat hardly anything I had. Plus by about day 4, you will want to get out of the house, so grocery store is a good excuse.

    Baby Food After Surgery?

You are not a baby, you don't need baby food. (I stole this from someone on here) Liquid (full liquid) drink smoothies w protein, protein shakes, greek yogurt, pudding, jello, soup (add blended cottage cheese for more protein in your soup)............ Mushy, get out your blender and throw in some chicken w a bit of low fat gravy, tuna salad........ it is mushy, but tastes like chicken/tuna and a tonne of protein, if you want fruit, throw it in the blender, same with veggies. You don't need baby food and besides carbs, there is nothing good in it for you.

    Nutri Bullet

You are right, I am almost 4 weeks post op and can get my protein by eating. I keeps shakes as a back up when I am in a rush or traveling in a hotel.

    Nutri Bullet

I have a majic bullet and my only complaint is that it doesn't crush ice, just spins them around.
  21. I am 3 weeks and 3 days post op, and advanced yesterday to my final stage of eating before maintenance. Going from pureed to small diced, add some soft fruit etc. Well yesterday, I had 1/2 cup of Beans (baked). (I have had beans on 2 other occassions, no problems). I am 24hrs since the beans were consumed and have been suffering all day. Gassy, bloated, almost feel like I did 2 days post op. Woke up feeling full, bloated, tender when I take deep breaths........I am full of gas. Had to leave work and slept for 3hrs after a big poop and loading up on gas x. If I lit a match in this house, it would go up in flames. I don't think it is anything else than something I have eaten, doesn't feel like the flu. I am blaming it on the beans............. Going back to pureed and liquids and chicken and slowely introduce anything new and done with beans. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

    Weight Gain :,(

Alot of people gain during their 6 weeks healing..........stay away from the diet pills. Eat according to your dr's instructions, walk and exercise and things will fall into place. Stay away from Diet Pills.

    Weight Gain :,(

You only had your surgery on Sept 24th and your poor body has been thru hell and back. Post op you were in starvation mode and I would imaged that your metabolism came to a screaching halt as you were not feeding it well, as you graduate to new foods and start eating gain, you have to give yourself time to get use to it. You are still gassy and not where you need to be in terms of nutrition and exercise. I lost 10lbs 1week post op, because I was probably eating 250 calories a day. The next week I gained 2lbs, I am almost 4 weeks post and eating more normal foods and exercising and think I am over the hump, am down 4lbs in the last 2 weeks. I am really trying not to get on the scale often.............about every 10 days, and in my heart I know I am eating right and exercising and everything else should take care of itself. One day at a time my friend, it will all work out.
  24. Congratulations on your decision. My first step would be to find another nutritionists............perhaps your surgeon can recommend one. Wait to see what your surgeon wants you to accomplish between now and surgery, keeping in mind you will probably have to do a pre op liquid diet of some sort. I would have been on fire when she mentioned HL after your rant........good for you for staying calm.
  25. Congratulations. If you are taking pain meds to control the nausia, I would try to find something else. You might also want to start in on a stool softener. Pain meds and surgery get you all bunged up and that in itself can become a bit problem that you don't want to have. Take care of yourself.
