Flying While Banded
wildrose1966 replied to molldoll83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can get chicken in most airport restaurants. I don't fly long enough distances that I have to plan for meals, but when in a pinch, I grab some Soup. Not high Protein, but better than fast food. I did make an Optifast shake on a plane once, I was starving, on liquids, had my shaker, asked for Water and ice. Usually there is a foodcourt, might be able to get hummus, or eat the insides of a fajita, chili from Wendy's would be okay. Good luck. -
Bravo.........one step and one day at a time!! (how many lbs in a stone??)
-
I still do a shake periodically for breakfast on the go. I have spoken to my clinic about this and 2 of the girls who work there are banded and they do the same. I think it is the exception not the rule and I would much rather eat than drink, just sometimes for the sake of time and convenience, I fall back on my optifast.

Menstrual Cycle
wildrose1966 replied to jenniferdawn86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Might not be the band, but the medications from surgery................ -
Every surgeon is different, but I was told no hot tubs, pools or baths until all my incisions were healed and no scabs.........your instructions may be different, pls check.
-
Your dr should be monitoring your loss and if you need a fill. Do you have an appointment scheduled with your surgeon soon??? 30lbs is great.........congrats.
-
I found the pain went away when I was standing...........so may as well walk. I slept with a few heating pads for the first few weeks.............good luck to you and congrats!
-
I believe I prefaced it with.........make it a family thing.........bring your family with you walking.
-
Maybe you make it a family thing every night after dinner...........1hr walking, in the cold and dark. Park in the farthest spot away from the shops, get a video to play on the television for 45 min/day. If your family, grandkids, husband cannont give you 1hr to yourself, then there are bigger problems then not exercising. I find it hard to believe that you are busy every waking moment, you really do have to commit to exercise, it is not fun, it is a job, but you have to make the time. Perhaps there is a local walking group, or community pool. I would guess there are alot of options out there if you go looking.

I get lidocane too, she doesn't always pull the liquid out. She puts the needle in, puts in the fill, makes me sit up with the needle still in and gulp a glass of water. If all does down okay she pulls the needle out. I guess she keeps it in in case she needs to unfill a bit and doesn't want to poke me again.

Looking For Detailed Stories From Anyone Who Has Been To Mexico For Lapband With Dr. Alamaza
wildrose1966 replied to leelee_zo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Before you go please make sure you have someone lined up at home who will be in charge of your aftercare and fills. I have read quite a bit of people who have been banded in other countries/states who cannnot find someone to do their fills once they get home as alot of dr's won't touch you if they didn't band you. good luck -
no, you don't need protein shakes or powder if you are eating your recommended amount of protein per day. I was told that I should be eating not drinking my protein. I do have an optifast every so often in place of breakfast but that is the exception not the rule. I do not own protein powder or any protein suppliments...........can't stomach them.

No Restriction 2 Weeks Post Op
wildrose1966 replied to kma87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2.5 months post op and no restriction.............you may not get restriction for a few months until you have had a few fills. Some people never need fills, some it takes 7-8 months until they reach restriction. -
I was 6 weeks. so for 6 weeks, I put my headphones on and walked. I felt fantastic at my 1 week post op appointment and asked about the gym, I could have gone. It was explained to me that internally I am steal healing and there are stitiches holding everything in place. If I take the chance and start at the gym there would be a chance I could pop a stitch...........just those words, pop a stitch were good enough for me to keep walking for 6 weeks.

Cereal/whole Wheat Toast/pasta/rice
wildrose1966 replied to lovely29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 months out and can eat special k w banana's - I haven't tried any other cereal, but with milk, I would imagine it would be okay. I eat my bread toasted including sandwiches and have had pasta (2x - ravioli). I have not tried rice. I am not at restriction and I would imagine that I could eat soft bread and rice right now, but just haven't. I have yet to try beef or pork, but again, imagine that right now, I could eat either. -
I am going to go out on a limb here and tell you what I would do..........keep in mind that your Dr may have a different plan, but it doesn't seem that you are getting stong advice on that end either. Create an account in myfitnesspal, and customize your daily calories to 1200. Log everything you put in your mouth. Although MFP will tell you that your Protein goal should be around 50- aim for 70. Eat 3 meals a day each with approx 3-4 oz protein, with veggies. Eat your protein first. Only eat 1 cup/8oz of food per meal. Buy a scale and measuring cups. If you cannot go 4-5hrs between meals have a healthy snack - fruit, nuts, protein, yogart etc. Try to get in at least 30 min of exercise a day and see how that works for you. If you plan out your meals today for tomorrow and log them, you will see exactly where you are at, what you have to add or take away and you can plan. A smoothie for bfast or a snack is okay, but try to eat your protein not drink it. Stay hydrated. Some people don't like to track or need to track but it is a good starting point. Maybe play around with that for the weekend and see how you feel. There is lots of support here if you need help with different meals, foods and recipes so pls ask.

Destynee, can you go back to your surgeon's office and ask for more info, see if they have some guidelines for you to follow, see if they can help you. I was given a manual the size of a university text book, that I didn't put down for 6 weeks, referenced everything. We can certainly help you here, but as you have probably seen, every dr is different and had different rules. It seems like you are about 5 weeks out and probably due for a post op visit, or fill. I would quite frankly demand some more information and answers. And you don't need to see a NUT 4x a month. I had a pre op appt and will have another one at 3 months and again at 6 months, however, I have access to her whenever I feel necessary. Good luck to you.
-
I couldn't do any of the protein drinks or shakes or enhanced puddings. I called my surgeons office and I went back to my pre op optifast, as well, they suggested that I add cottage cheese to my soups and blenderize them, to get added protein. Greek yogurt is good. They weren't too concerned as I was still healing and as soon as I hit mushy stage, I was good on the protein intake. Good luck to you.

Pls do your research. A nutritionist is going to help you eat right, make good choices and work with your band. HCG to me (note this is my opinion) is a money grabber and I would have to question why you got banded and didn't just pay the money for the HCG program. Learning to live with your band is a life long journey and learning to eat and exercise properly is part of that journey. What happens after you stop paying for HCG?? I think you are being taken advantage of. You also only had your surgery a month ago, I would not be doing anything without my surgeons approval. Give your band an chance and give yourself more credit that you can live a banded lifestyle.

Anything you can put in a blender. Tuna salad, chicken salad, chilli, be careful of mashed potatoes, they are yummy and easy to get down, but not what you really need to be eating. I got a rotissaire chicken put it in the bullet with a bit of broth and yummo. (especially after 4 weeks of liquids)

Spin is a GREAT cardio class. You can really go in and start at your own pace, let the instructor know that it is your first time and you will find yourself adding more as you go. One of those great activities that has the option of buying shoes for, anything that you can buy new shoes for must be great!!!! At my gym, any class instructor will tell you to work at your own pace, but push yourself, there are alternatives for most exercises. (ie bad knees or shoulders)

I only do classes. Bootcamp, power barbell, interval and spinning. I try to mix it up and get spinning 2x a week for a great cardio workout. My gym has 2 pools, but those classes are always packed. good luck to you.
