Which October Sleevers Are On Facebook?
Susan 2.0 replied to mooneybeams's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has someone created a private group yet for the OctoSleevers? I don't want to miss the link.... -
Bel, So sorry you had to experience this situation. Since your insurance won't cover your procedure unless it's at your place of employment, please consider going self-pay. I don't know where you live, but please do some research on self-pay options. My ins specifically excludes WLS so I started looking at self-pay. 2 reputable hospitals in my area charge 30k for the surgery so I was discouraged, but I kept looking. I think I found my surgeon here on VST. His practice is 2.5 hours away in a small, private hospital in an affluent area (Lake Norman, NC), the staff there is PHENOMENAL, & was only 12-13k. That's less than I paid for my car and the car will only depreciate. I will continually appreciate my sleeve & good health. Don't give up!! The practice in your place of employment is not your only option. Keep your chin up & I can't wait to hear that you have a surgery date scheduled!!

Jillb - are you sure you're getting enough calories? Your body might be in starvation mode? You may need to up your calories a bit. I can't imagine 2 shakes a day are enough.

Hey fellow losers! Today was a good day. 1st post-op appt with Doc. I asked them not to tell me my weight today because I didn't want to be discouraged if it was a low loss amount. They obliged but were kind enough to say that I'm doing great & right on schedule. Whew!! I am going to TRY to wait until my 6-week follow-up appt before finding out my loss amount. I just don't want my emotions to be ruled by a scale number. Also, because I'm doing so well with my clear liquids, my NUT said I could move into the thicker liquids 2 days sooner. Yay!! So I had (strained) New England Clam Chowder for lunch. YUMMY. & she said that means by this weekend I can move into puréed foods. Woohoo! Good, good day. I hope all of my fellow Octo-losers are having as great of a day. :-) -

1) you could be ok, but better off with 2 weeks. I felt fairly good after a week, but sooo happy to have 2 in order to focus on new way of "eating" & getting fluids in. 2) spend the night @ hospital so they can monitor you. This is MAJOR surgery. -
What Vitamins Do You Take?

Definitely go with Celebrate chewables. They taste as good when you're finished chewing as when you started. Can't say the same for Opurity (Unjury's brand) -
Do a search on the words "my fitness pal" & you'll find many, many threads about MFP & tons of people to add.

Strained Panera's chicken soup mixed with UNJURY chicken soup flavored protein is the BOMB-DIGGITY. Thanks, Jennyannk73, for the inspiration!!! -

I've seen a couple of 68 year olds having it done... Anyone older at time of operation?

My NUT has me building on each day: 1st day after surgery: 100 cals/10 grams Protein 2nd day: 200 cals/20 grams 3rd day: 300/30 4th day: 400/40 & so on, until reaching 800 calories & 75-90 grams of protein. That will remain until maintenance when I'll move to about 1100-1200 calories & 75-90 grams of protein.

Yeah, I was about to have chicken broth this morning for breakfast... Maybe it's because of that awesome sounding post? Just opted for chocolate Shake instead..... -
