Haven't Lost Much Sleeve Oct.2011
geno5150 replied to MANDY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
multi grain still has a lot of carbs and not a lot of protein. I would suggest talking to your NUT to make sure your diet is where it needs to be. -
What Did You Tell Your Kids?
geno5150 replied to CBT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My kids are 7, 5, and 4. We all sat down and watched a couple of gastric sleeve surgeries on YouTube so I could show them exactly what would happen. It seems a bit extreme, but they were reassured to see the people make it through the surgery OK. -
Thank God, A Protein Shake That Does Not Taste Like Butt!

Steps In Preparing For Surgery
geno5150 replied to Sherry77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Each surgeon is different, so there isnt a real good rule of thumb here. A lot of it will depend on how busy his/her schedule is. In my case, it took two weeks after final approval to get a date scheduled. My earliest option was then four weeks out, but I had to accomodate my family doctor as well since he wanted to scrub in and assist with the actual surgery. -
My surgery is scheduled for the 16th.

Sleep Study Friday Ahh!
geno5150 replied to Fallenangel2904's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had it done, the technician showed me the sheet she had recorded all night and gave me a preview of what the doctor would tell me. Wit the caveat that she was not the doc, of course. You can ask for a sleeping pill if having someone watch you all night is too creepy- I recommend that. -
Generally no. The would only approve reconstruction for post masectomy or possibly repair after an accident.

Frustrated! Busting My Hump... No Weight Loss
geno5150 replied to Pagie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look at it this way: would you rather be a pound of feathers (fat) or a pound of rocks (muscle)? Both weigh the same amount but which fits in the smaller package? You are doing great- leave the scale alone for a month! -
The way I look at it, I am doing this surgery for ME! I don't need anyone's approval because I have my own personal reasons and issues I am tackling.

I have been waiting more because I didn't want something to happen and then go back and say "not happening". I'd have to explain it a bunch of times so I figured it would be easier to just do it all at once and I can tell my whole family at the same time rather than six separate phone calls.

July 2Nd Is My Day! 29 More Days But Who's Counting
geno5150 replied to BeatrizS1974<3 sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Being in the hospital over a holiday is kind of cool. I've done that a few times and noticed you get the better nursing staff that come in for the extra holiday pay. I was shooting for that week as well, but my PCP is scrubbing in to assist so he had me pushed back two weeks just so he could get his mitts into my guts. I am a huge fan of my family doctor. -
Stall, Not Upset...just Perplexed
geno5150 replied to Sleevorama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can't always judge loss by what the scale says. If your clothes continue to fit more loosely and you feel more energetic every day, then you are probably turning some fat in muscle with exercise, even at your slow pace. Adding more intense exercise will increase the amount of calories you are burning, so you will have to start losing again- there is no other way around it. Good luck! -
This has to be some kind of world record, but the surgeon submitted my paperwork to insurance on Thursday of last week and it was approved on Monday. Excited! I go back on the 19th to schedule my surgery. BCBS-Illinois PPO. They are awesome.

Milwaukee Area Vsg Surgeons? Chicago?
geno5150 replied to Purpleswirlie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going with Mahed Jandali in Kenosha. That would be halfway between Milwaukee and Chicago. I've heard a lot of really positive feedback from various patients of his. http://www.uhsi.org
