Oh It Was So Fun While It Lasted!
geno5150 replied to Jill279's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guys, you cannot qualify a weight loss of two, three or four pounds a week with "only". That's ridiculous. Even two pounds a week is a PHENOMENAL amount to be losing. People would kill to have what you have. Heck, a pound a week is 52 in a year. That's below what Weight Watchers averages and they make billions of dollars a year peddlng what most people consider to be a success. -
Kind of like a newborn baby's diaper? If you think about it, that is how you are eating right now. I gets a little better once you are on "normal" amounts of solid food.

My Dad smoked until I was born and then switched to chewing tobacco. When my brothers and I were young, under 10 years old, he made (allowed, in his words) us all try a pinch of snuff. After throwing up for a good fifteen minutes, none of us have ever touched a tobacco product to this day. A little pain at the beginning taught us a valuable life lesson. The same applies here. The moral of the story is: you can make your kids do anything which is why being a parent is so wicked awesome.

Oh It Was So Fun While It Lasted!
geno5150 replied to Jill279's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit this at a little under three months in. I'm sure the last 20% will be much harder than the first 80% is. -
From the psychological aspect of it, I've read that you really shouldn't eat sitting on the couch. Eating should be done at the table and strictly as a means to refuel the body. Otherwise, it turns into a habit like a boredom reliever, similar to mindlessly watching TV.

How would you feel if something this important and life-changing was kept from you until the day it happened?

Just Wondering....has Anyone Reached Goal Without Any Exercise?
geno5150 replied to Sassafras's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I doubt you'll find anyone that has made it even close to goal without exercise. The sleeve is just a tool, not a magic wand. -
Only Lost 8 Lbs Firt Week, Stall For 6 Days After Surgery.
geno5150 replied to Brandywine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you can qualify an eight pound weight loss in one week with "only". If you are still at eight pounds a month from now, then you have permission to hit the panic button. Otherwise, sit back, relax, and let it happen at its own pace. -
Anybody Have Problems With Insurance After Surgeon Had Peer To Peer With Insurance Director?
geno5150 replied to Malisima69's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you try calling the insurance company? If everything went OK with the peer-to-peer, they should have the info and it should be in process on their side. -
Is My Stomach Holding Too Much?
geno5150 replied to froma2toa1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also able to hold a bit more with soft foods. Potatoes will slide thru easier which is why they get limited once you move to solids. -
I'd call the insurance company myself and check if you have any doubts. The bill will go to you, not the insurance consultant if she's wrong. Ultimately, you are liable for all the charges regardless of what she says.

Hard Excersize With Little Calories
geno5150 replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would suggest slowing down a bit and building back up your fitness level over a couple of weeks before jumping in head first. You want to be sure your body is in full ketosis and really burning fat for energy instead of muscle and get used to that before really starting to kill it. I started running last week after not ever running or even fast walking in over 15 years and I used some slow walking to build up to that point. -
Clothing Size And Weight Lost-Help!
geno5150 replied to jewels1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If you are walking that much, you are also probably replacing your big, fat behind with a slightly less big, muscular behind which would explain why the pants size isn't coming down as fast. That's a good thing. -
What percentage is 50 lbs in relation to your total pounds needed to lose? You will definetely slow down the closer you are to your goal. Maybe a shake up in diet or exercise is in order?

V-8 Juice On Full Liquid Diet?
geno5150 replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You want to be careful with those kinds juices- many times they have a high sugar content and the acid can kick reflux into high gear. -

2 Months Post-Op And Questions
geno5150 replied to buforu21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm down 64 at two months, but I think that is on the high side for VSG. I don't know that I'd necessarily be eating tortillas- that's a lot of carbs for me. -
What Is The Portion Size?
geno5150 replied to scorpion509's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cold is very normal. They think that is a hormonal thing due to the surgery. As far as portion size, most people are counting calories so that may be a better gauge as to how much you are eating. 4-5 oz sounds about right, though. Don't compare your loss to anyone else- there are so many differences in people that you'll just depress yourself- there will always be someone losing faster than you. -
Yes! Cleared For Solid Food.
geno5150 replied to ForMyfamily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to hear. Don't go nuts like I did or you'll end up heaving into a garbage can in front of a class of 25 college students. It leads to a frank and interesting discussion about VSG, but was considered unprofessional. -
Not to hijack this thread, but I had what I think was a gallbladder attack on Sunday, but none since. Do they start out infrequent and then get progressively worse and more regular? I had an ultrasound a four months ago and they said my gallbladder had no stones. I see my PCP next week, but I am curious as to other's experiences.

Date For Surg 12/3. Insirance Submitted Today
geno5150 replied to nikic408's topic in Insurance & Financing
Call United on Monday to make sure they have all the paperwork they need. If they do then ask if you have been approved. Call them every day following with the same two questions until you get an answer on the approval. -
It depends more on the plan itself than the insurance company. The best thing to do would be to call Humana and ask. it should also be listed in the plan's description if you have access to that. There will be a section that covers exclusions and limitations- any general waiting periods will be listed there.

How Much Of Regular Food Can U Eat Now After Surgery?
geno5150 replied to gettinMeBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, at three weeks out your stomach is still healing and probably swollen from the surgery, so it's expected that it won't be able to hold its full volume yet. I am at 8 weeks and can only hold about 7-8 oz. It seems like this won't happen, but it will- just give it some time. -
Does Sugar Free Stall Weight ?
geno5150 replied to TheNewSusie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is zero evidence that artificial sweeteners do anything but possibly cause cancer in lab rats. There has only been one study on this pertaining to weight loss and it found no evidence it either increased or decreased the metabolic rate. This has been twisted in knots by a number of "health/naturalist" websites as evidence it impedes weight loss or metabolism, but that is simply not true. -
I'm sure you'll be fine. I didn't lose much on the pre-op either. As a tip to anyone that hasn't had their initial weigh in with the doctor- one strategy would be to wear a couple of sets of clothes and make sure you fill you pockets with everything you may need in case a natural disaster strikes during the appointment. There may be a small side effect of your starting weight being artificially higher, but isn't that worth it for safety and peace of mind?
