Higher Altitude & the band
Ashleigh Childress replied to bout-time's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I fly for work frequently... Recommend that you take it easy while you are elevated... Protein shakes, liquids, Mishima, etc... My band usually goes backup normal a week after I get home... However when I travel a lot over the course of a month, I seem to have more trouble. -
Coughing And Acid Reflux
Ashleigh Childress replied to jacqulinep's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the same symptoms this week. Consistent night cough and acid reflux. I went in and did a barium swallow which indicate I had pouch dilation. They took 2 ccs out of my current 5.9 cc fill. Immediately I felt relief. I could sink a bottle of Water in less than 2 mins- it used to take me 10 mins. I was definitely too tight. I'm on a liquid diet for 3 days and then soft foods for 3 days. I go back in 3 weeks to do another swallow test and get a fill. My surgery date was 4-17-12. Lost 80 lbs so far. Last fill was in December 2012. They think that I got too tight by any of the following reasons: lost of recent air travel, getting off birth control, and water retention from running and not being able to drink fluids such as water. In the past 2 months, I hadn't dropped any weight but remained constant and I figured it was the addition of exercise. But maybe I was too tight. I'm glad I went in. I feel much better and am looking forward to an easy recovery. I'm concerned I will gain in tho 3-6 weeks but for now... It's my mindset. I've got to remember that this is only a tool and 2 ccs isn't an excuse to run put and eat a cheeseburger ( which I haven't been able to eat since I've been banded). Hope this helps. When on his sight, I'd get frustrated because ppl would ask questions about heir problems but never follow up as to what happened, what the doc said, and what the future plan was. -
Another thing to consider... I had ear problems after I lost about 60 lbs. ear doc said that rapid weight loss can affect ears. Apparently, I had lost weight in my ear causing an off balance... My ears would just pop randomly though.

Coughing And Acid Reflux

So what did the doc say? I'm having same issues. It's been over a year since its been placed and over 4 months since I've had a fill. Only thing that has changed is that I'm running 2 miles 4-5x per week. My hope is I'm too tight and retaining water. I pray it's not slippage. -

Success feels like cheating
Ashleigh Childress posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So I'm at a point where I've lost 75 lbs and I'm a size 14, 190 lbs. my goal is 150, however I'm getting tired of hearing from people I hardly know that I look great because they always follow it up with "what are you doing?" I don't ever really want to tell them but then I feel guilty if I take credit entirely. Anyone else dealing with this? I'm grateful for the band and what it's done but I'm to the point where I want to be left alone about it. I appreciate that people are noticing and yes, it makes me proud but guilty like I'm cheating. -

This is my Breakfast every morning. So yummy, not gritty. Also goes with vanilla flavored. 25 GMs of Protein. 150 calories. I've been doig that for 10 months. Down 75 lbs. -

Success feels like cheating
Ashleigh Childress replied to Ashleigh Childress's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Maybe I am overreacting. I work in the fashion industry and am around stick thin people ever day. Now I'm able to wear clothes they wear so I do feel like I fit in more. And I know this I all in my head. I've always been the girl with the "pretty face" and now my body is getting closer to match that and it feels good. I'm not used to all the direct attention and questions. I've told some people and others I say that I've been working on losing weight for almost a year which is true. After i tell some of my co-workers the truth, i get a "oh- i see" response which makes me feel guilty. And some have directly asked me if I had WLS- people I don't even know. I struggle with being consistent in my response.
