    Wanted Minnesota Buddies

Hey guys, I was sleeved at U of M last December. I have been so happy with my sleeve. It still feels like a miracle even though it wasn't. 5 months later and I'm still amazed at how little I can eat! Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

    December sleevers!

Interesting about the popcorn. I was sleeved 12/14 too and I crave popcorn like crazy. I've been eating lots of it (relatively speaking) and I was never interested in eating it before my sleeve.
  3. Don't worry, you will lose wt. I stalled at about week two and didn't lose anything for almost three weeks then I suddenly dropped. I think there is a very good chance that you will meet your Dr's goal. When I was in my stall I just took a deep breath and kept reading all the posts on this forum to reassure myself that my experience was normal and I wouldn't be the only person on the planet who got sleeved and didn't lose wt!

    Post Op B12?

My Dr didn't want me to start the B12 until one month post op. They gave me the shot at my one month appt and I'll do the rest. I requested the shots because I would much rather do it once a month than have to remember it every day. I don't have such a good track record with my other vitamins and this is an important one.
  5. Sorry for causing some offense/confusion. When I say grossly correct (please note that I did not say "incorrect") I am agreeing with you in a general sense. I think that what you had to say has historically been the accepted scientific wisdom (and for the most part still is), but as with everything science related our knowledge is constantly evolving and it seems to me that lately there have been a lot of developments in how we view the carb/protein/fat paradigm. The video I referenced in my previous post is an example of that.
  6. PdxMan, I think basically you're right, but it seems that more and more research is showing that a calorie is not just a calorie. The protein/carb/fat calories as you presented them are grossly correct, but I think each of those categories can be further refined in terms of how the body uses them. There is a really interesting video on you tube called "sugar: the bitter truth" that illustrates how different sugars are metabolized by the body and shows that what you eat does affect the calorie equation. I also find it interesting that Atkins had always argued that a low carb diet created a metabolic advantage. Hopefully one day science will figure out exactly what that advange is.

    New Knee Pain

This is interesting! I've never had knee pain and now suddenly after loosing 40 lbs they're starting to hurt. I have to say it's an unexpected development, but as always it's nice to know I'm not alone.
  8. cscake, I stalled at week two and stayed stalled for nearly three weeks then suddenly the wt started dropping off again. I've stopped weighing myself because it's never in a straight line. I stall, jump around a few lbs and then drop. If I weigh every day I go crazy, so I followed the advice of so many veterans here and ditched the scales!

Are You Happy With Your Choice?

I love my sleeve! I'm almost six weeks out and I feel exactly the same as before except 1. I can't eat as much. 2. It doesn't matter because I'm not hungry anyway. 3. The weight is melting off!! :biggrin2:
  10. I don't think not taking multi vitamins will impact your wt loss, but as Pdxman says they maybe neccessary for health. I can't stand them either. They make me feel nauseated and I can taste them all day. I've decided to stop and see what my test results are at my 3 month check up. If the results show that I'm deficient then I'll be convinced to keep taking them. I am still going to use the B12 shots though. I wish I could get all my vitamins with a once a month shot!
  11. Two weeks at each stage is a long time. I felt the same way today. I had my surgery on the 14th and couldn't stand it anymore. I feel so weak and dizzy I had to eat something so I tore into a pudding cup. Well I got half way through and had to stop because my sleeve started to spasm. Now I feel better so I'll try to stick to clears again. My Dr wants 7-10 days. Good luck with your remaining time on clears.
  12. Congratulations! I was sleeved on the 14th too.
  13. I was sleeved on 12/14 and over all my recovery has been great. One issue I've been struggling with is what feels like a spastic diaphram. It feels like I'm getting a charlie horse right across my chest and sometimes I can feel it go to my back. The Dr ordered a muscle relaxant for me to take and it has helped some, but they're still quite frequent. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how long did it last?
  14. 5Dogma your symptoms sound exactly like mine. It's not how i imagined reflux would feel. I get a spasm everytime I swallow. Take tiny sip, wait for spasm, rest, sip.... I also get them when I move, breath, cough. Also as Lissa says cold is much, much worse. I try to drink lukewarm only. I started a PPI this AM so hopefully this phase will pass soon!

6 Month Diet Can U See Your Gyno

I'd try for sure. The insurance company might say no because it wasn't supervised by a registered dietician, but I think you have a good arguement because it was medically supervised. It can't hurt to ask. Good luck!

    I Totally Graduated!

Congratulations x2! No wonder you feel confidant your picture is beautiful!
  17. Gotta love the pre op clear liquids. I feel like my stomach is trying to gnaw it's way out so it can go find it's own food. Thankfully I'm mostly just excited right now. Only 43 more hours till I have to be at the hospital for my beautiful new sleeve!!!

    Jp Drain

Yes it sounds good. 2tbsp overnight isn't very much and clearer drainage is what you want. It doesn't have to be completely stopped for your Dr to remove it.
  19. I think it is because the surgery is only starting to be more widely used. There isn't enough research to develop a standardized plan of care. Even within my Dr's practice the varoius surgeons ask for different plans. You'd think all the Dr's in one clinic would be the same, but they're not. Everyone here talks about needing 70-90g protein, but the dietician's at my clinic only recommend 50-60 and told me to not even worry about it the first month. I was told the body has stores for about a month and it's not like we won't get any protein that first month and completely deplete our stores anyway.
  20. It's easy to manage. Just don't fart unless you're sitting on a toilet. Ever since had a small bowel resection 15 years ago, farting isn't safe. You just don't always know what you're going to get.
  21. If you've been drinking less that 8oz a day for the past 5 days, you are dehydrated. Take advantage of the ER. They can give you fluids, some IV pain meds to carry you through the night and send you home. Then you can call your Dr in the AM and have him properly assess you. No point suffering if you don't have too... and the CPAP question would be a great one to ask RT while you're getting your fluids

    I "thought" I Met A Nice Guy

It's him. Don't let his behavior make you second guess your own behavior.
  23. Did your Dr prescribe any pain medication? It is odd for the drain to hurt that much, but everyone expericences pain a little differently. If your Dr gave you some try a couple doses on schedule and if your pain isn't controlled by then, then I'd call too.
  24. I'm with Paola, it sounds like you're doing great! I don't think you should be too hard on yourself about the bread. You've had a long term relationship with food and now you're breaking up. We all know breaking up is hard to do.

    December sleevers!

It's so exciting to hear from everyone who's had surgery already this month. I can hardly wait for 12/14! The OR nurse called me on friday and said I need to be at the hospital by 5:30 am so I don't even need to wait on wednesday!
