    What Are Slimes?

Ugh, it sounds terrible! I guess there has to some sort of draw back. At least it's not nearly as bad as dumping syndrome or band slippage.

    Pre-op Blues!

I can so relate to this. I don't know what happened to me, but as soon as I decided to have the surgery I just stopped wanting to do anything with myself. I badly need a haircut, new clothes...but I keep thinking about how much better it will be a few months after surgery. I feel like a drowing woman who has suddenly realized that rescue is possible and I just want to get into the boat. Nothing else matters.
  3. When I went to my first information session for the sleeve one of the bits of info the nurse gave us was that we needed to have a good form of birth control ready because fertility goes way up as the weight comes off. My Dr asks that his patients not get pregnant for two years after surgery. I don't know if this is a standard or just what he thinks is best.
  4. If that's what you've been eating try not to worry. I don't see how you can possibly gain 5 lbs with what you've listed in your post. It's probably just your body messing with you. Take a deep breath, keep eating the way you should and reweigh in a few days, I'll bet it's gone by then.
  5. It is probably a JP drain. These drains are used for almost all and any abdominal surgery. They're a little bulb like device that you squeeze to create light pressure that will drain any fluid after surgery. It's normal for tissue to "weep" a bit after it's been cut and you don't want it to pool in your abdominal cavity. The amount of drainage will determine how long it gets left in. Some people need them longer, some less. What you need to watch for is amount and color. At first it will probably look quite red and should change to a light red/yellowish color.
  6. Generally the smaller the number the bigger the tube. Are bougies different?

    I am the only one??

I've been cutting out artificial sweeteners for about a year now because I've started to wonder about the whole chemical/hormone connection and if this has contributed to some of my weight issues. Since I'm pre-op I've been trying to figure out how I'll do SF clear liquids. I guess I'm going to be limited to water and broth.

    December sleevers!

I just spoke to my insurance coordinator. She's submitting the paper work today so everything is still on track for Dec 14. I'll sleep a whole lot easier once I get the offical pre authorization.
  9. Awesome attitude! I'm afraid I would be one of those who cry a whole lot. Cheers to a very happy valentine's
  10. I would start with your Dr's care coordinator they had to have submitted paper work for pre authorization. If a two night stay is your Dr's standard of care they must know this. Also, who gets to decide what's medically necessary? I would ask your Dr why he made the decision he did, he obviously felt it was necessary and might give you some info to go to the insurance co with. Good luck.

    On my way

I am so with you. My husband and I pondered this for two years and now that we've made the decision I just want it done! Everyday pre surgery just feels like a day wasted to me now.
  12. Wow! 122 lbs, that's awesome! I'm scheduled for surgery next month and I long for the day I can say I'm 40lbs overweight. I think that for me the last 40lbs will just be gravy.

    Best Protein ??

I'm scheduled for surgery on 12/14 and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the post op diet. I googled homemade beef broth and the nutrition info said there is 22g of protein per cup. It seems high to me so I was wondering if anyone knows more about this? Also, if it's true can I just drink 3 cups a day for my protein requirement and skip the powders? I really don't look forward to having to use protein powder!

    Ashamed of WLS?

I'm so excitied to be having this surgery. I just want to hold it close and savor it. It's mine, mine, mine and I don't want to share! The only person who knows is my husband and he's promised not to tell anyone. I'm sure once the wt is coming off I'll want to tell more people, but till then it's my happy little secret!

    December sleevers!

My surgery is 12/14 at U of M in Minneapolis.Of course it will be if I get insurance approval by then. I'm so excited to be getting this done and so afraid that something will come up to delay my surgery date. I've been reading all these posts of people who have recently gotten their sleeve and it's making me crazy wishing I could do it right now!
