  1. I had surgery on wed, went home on Friday and stopped at two stores on my way home. After that I went out with my mom on Monday for a few hours in town to get some fresh air and walk. It was nice. I went out for 2-3 hrs each day that week with her to walk around because of the snow. I then would come home and take a map as I was totally done.

    Keeping surgery a secret

I totally understand and just went through this. I who I knew would support me plus my work team and they have been great. Now, others in our family well my husbands family have picked on people who have done this but it's because those individuals did it incorrectly so they disapproved of that. This, we opted not to tell anyone outside who really needed to know. Guess what, we got the call last night from some of his family members who were upset we didn't tell them I was having surgery, they didn't care what for just the fact we didn't tell them. So the apologies started but I simple stated that I didn't want anyone to worry. They asked if I had my tumor removed but I can't have that done until I lost significant weight. Started the day of surgery, 1-23-13 at 280 and I am 5 ft 1 inch but now I am down to 263 so doing well. So I ended up explaining the reason for the WLS to them and the reason I didn't tell anyone was the fact of worry. Regardless, it's no ones business what you do for yourself. Just think of how you would explain to someone that cares about you, especially seeing you will be changing everything about yourself. Now we go to parties with my husbands family and they are all big drinkers and eaters, but they have never pressured me on NO when I say it like some of the other wives so I feel good that I didn't tell them before surgery until I got the car from my husbands favorite uncle/aunt and cousin. And believe me there are a ton of them in our area. I wish you the best of luck. I worry about going back to work, but I am very strong person and will tell who ever makes snide comments to keep them to themselves.

    Gassy after Atkins shakes

I had surgery on 1-23 and the gas is normal. Your body had extra Gas and its trying I move it through your system. I had a lot of gas or pressure until I had my first bowel movement. Try a different shake to see if you have better luck but has is totally normal.

    Ablation tomorrow

I had an ablation after our third kid e cause I have a large fibroid in my uterus. We did the ablation to not only stop my cycle but to see if the fibroid would die off or stop growing. I have had it since I was preg for my first child.....11 years ago. So after our third because the surgery to remove it was too dangerous with my knowledge of how complicated my preg were and breaking everything in that area due to an accident several years ago. The ablation was the best thing we did, but the fibroid did not change so no dr would touch the removal of the fibroid due to size and where it's pushing inside due to the fact I did not so well after three kids each one did something else to my lower body section and I couldn't loose any of the weight due to the pain the fibroid caused, thus 11 yrs is enough and I just had the bypass last Wed and once I am down some weight they will be able to remove the fibroid. Can't wait. Sorry for the end, just wanted to tell you the ablation was one of the best things I have done for myself medically and if you are done with children and have a medical need. I highly recommend it! Best of luck with yours.
  10. I am one week out and I use the 16 oz Tervis cups for my liquids and I use a blender cup for my shakes. I alternate one cold cup of liquids in the Tervis and then my refill I do a decaf tea for the warm drink.

When did you start your protein drinks

I just came home tonight and had surgery on wed. My dr said fluids and either carnation instant Breakfast or low sugar Protein to get my protein in. Nothing else until I see the nut at three Weeks. I have the unjury Soup but not sure if I can have that now so will email nut on Monday. Good luck. Shannon
  13. I had my surgery can't believe I get to say yesterday (23rd). There weren't any recovery rooms for a Cpap machine monitor so I have been in regular recovery. Well there is a lady who has been screaming for more medication and the nurses can't give her anymore. So, I am the lucky patient who gets to share the nurse with her and they said it was because I was easy to work with. It sounds like she could be recreation user based on her yelling. Not confirmed, but that is what I am thinking.

I am in and ready to go. Just waiting for the dr to cow but all my tags are on and they said 10.45-12.45 and then recovery. Wishing everyone a great day. I still don't have a voice but I don't think I will be talking for a little bit after.

    January Dates

Ok so today should be my morning. I scheduled to be in the hospital at 9.15 am and I am hoping they will still do the surgery as I have Hana cold since Monday but been on a high dose of meds. Clear when I blow my nose but I lost my voice because of the extreme cold we have had over the last few days which normally happens this time of year. I can take a deep death with no problem but still feel dry in the nose. Wish me good luck as my family came from Ohio to MA to take care if my three kids for me so they are counting on today being the day as my husband works a lot. They can't come back for a few months I today isn't it. Thanks for the good thoughts. Shannon
  17. How soon after surgery can we have decaf coffee or herbal caffeine free tea? I tried protein in with decaf coffee and really like it. My surgery is on wed the 23rd. Thanks all Shannon

Decaf coffee or herbal tea are they ok

Thanks I gave up the caffeine several months ago as I drank coffee about 2-3 times a day and now I have been doing one a week for a treat before surgery. I am also drinking CAFFEINE free tea and decaf in my shakes, but wondering when we can have a Luke warm cup after surgery. I like room temp water and stuff so hoping to do decaf flavored tea

    In laws dinner today

Just tell them that you are on a very restrictive diet as you are following a program through a weight center.
  20. So, I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and one of the nurses said that I will only be given 30cc's of water in the hospital. I did re-ask her and yes she said 30cc's which is 2 tbs. I am wondering if this is accurate. Wouldn't they want us to drink. Pre op is a different facility than the hospital. Thoughts, thanks

    Drinking in the hospital

Thanks Nicole. I purchased this new blistex gel Chapstick and had my husband try it as he is a truck driver and always chapped and he stole it so I need to buy more before wed the 23rs. I also got regular Chapstick too which is a gold standard.

    Drinking in the hospital

Thanks for your note. The nurse said that this waste grand total of what I would get before I went home and that is what shocked me. I appreciate you telling me that they start us slow at least I can hope to try drinking more than 30cc's in 3 days. Again thanks

    January 2013 Post Op

Trying to get the house and kids in order before the 23rd which is the start of my next venture. I have three kids 10, 8 and 5. My parents are coming to visit while I am in the hospital but will be with me for approx 4 days before hey head home after I come home. Hoping I will be ok to get the kids out to school in the mornings. I picked up some shakes and Soups while they were on sale. I have a list and keep crossing off thing I don't think I will need in the hospital. How is everyone else doing on getting ready.

    Greek yogurt?

Get the plain Greek yogurt and add sugar free pudding OR flavored protein powder with a little Splenda. Less sugar in plain and there are hundreds of combinations.
