Acid Reflux with fill. Gaining weight back. What do I do?
Cheryl S. posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have gained half of my weight back after keeping it off for 5 years. When I get even the smallest fill, I spend the entire night coughing. I have tried not eating after 6 and even skipping dinner entirely. Any suggestions? I have had a scope done and everything is in place. -
5 weeks post-op and eating everything!
Cheryl S. replied to rktown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
396power, My doctor told me that if I eat things I am not supposed to before the band has a chance to get "seated" it can cause a slip. I cant afford another $15,000 to go in and have it fixed. You have come this far, don't blow it by eating things your not supposed to. It's not worth it. You need to clean out your pantry and get rid of everything or lock it up if you cant control it. Try taking a walk or doing something when you have the urge to eat. Good luck. -
need advice 1 week 1 day post-op
Cheryl S. replied to missyr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 3 weeks post op. I had trouble with dehydration and getting my strength back. My doctor told me to sip Gatorade because it had a little sugar in it. He was more concerned about the dehydration than about me having a little sugar. I have been scared to death of eating in public and pbing. I have not started solid foods yet, still on mushies. I will start solids tomorrow and I plan to eat at home for a while to get used to what I can eat. I would suggest eating creams or mushies (or a slim fast for lunch if you work)when you go out until you get used to what you can tolerate. Good Luck. -
Macysgranny, We really are neighbors. I live at 1641 and Helms Trail. I'd love to get together sometime. I go for my two week check up on Wed. I am excited to see how much weight I have lost. I didnt realize you havent been banded yet. What doctor are you using?
-
Hi everybody! I was banded on 4/9 in Dallas. I am just now starting to get hungry. I am on the cream soup stage for a few more days and then on to mushy foods. I have lost 19 pounds since I started preop and I think that is a great motivation not to cheat. Good luck to everybody!!

I am 8 days post op. I feel very good now. I didnt have the shoulder pain, but my chest felt like it had a truck on it. I couldnt breath and in a panic I called my doctor. He told me to drink milk of magnesia. It really got things moving and now the gas is almost gone. -

Terrible Sore Throat!
Cheryl S. replied to ShirleyBee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 7 days post op. I didnt even know they were going to put a tube in. I wondered why my throat was sore. Yes they took it out while I was asleep. It went away after about three days. For the headache, my doctor told me to drink Gatorade to get a little bit of sugar. I wasnt hungry at all the first week. I had to force myself to sip on gatorade and apple juice to get in some sugar and calories. Hope this helps. Cheryl S. -
Isabelle290, If your insurance denies you, you might want to consider Dr. Kirshenbaum. There is a thread on here somewhere about him. He trys to compete with the prices in Mexico and I have read good things about him. He is in Colorado.

My 4/2 lapband surgery story
Cheryl S. replied to amwlady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amwlady- thanks for the post. I am being banded on Monday and am getting nervous. It was good to see you rate your pain. Also, that the surgery went quickly. I am so busy right now trying to make it through my pre-op diet and get my house clean and laundry done that I am not thinking too much about it. My mom is coming to stay with me for a few days. How long do you think it will be before I can drive my kids around and do things around the house? Cheryl s. -

3rd da Pre-op Diet & feeling EXHAUSTED
Cheryl S. replied to day3447's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ana and Tracy, I am on my 3rd day pre-op also. My surgery is scheduled for 4/9. I am having trouble getting in my calories, because I am already sick of broth. I am living on jello and crystal light. I havent had a protein shake, because I have always heard how gross they are and I don't want to waste my money. Do you know if slim fast is o.k. I have some in my pantry and was thinking about trying one. Cheryl S. -
Good Luck to you. I am being banded on 4/9 also. I am a little nervous but excited. Trying to make it throught the preop diet is a little hard. Keep us posted. Cheryl S.

Stacey, I live near Dallas. I was hoping you were from around here. I hope to be having my surgery in a few weeks. I got a call from my doctor today. I am actually have two surgeries at one time. I think I am crazy for doing that but it will save me a lot of money in the long run. My insurance is covering one and while I am already in the operating room under anesthesia, my weight doctor is going to come in and do the band. Good luck to you. What is your surgery date? Keep me posted. Cheryl S.

2 lap band or not 2 lap band that is the question!
Cheryl S. replied to leelee0501's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have you been to a seminar or consultation? I have not been banded yet, and was a little unsure myself. Yesterday I went to a consultation and when I walked in the waiting room, I was shocked to find about 20 women and men waiting to get fills. I had to wait for almost 2 hours to see the doctor, but this gave me the chance to ask everyone questions. Not one person said they regretted it. One lady had lost 200 hundred pounds. Another one was banded and had just had a baby with the band on. All of them said it is sooo worth it. After talking to the doctor, I feel very good about the decision. I am still a little nervous about what I'll be able to eat and being scared to eat because it might make me spit up, but I think the benefits will far outweigh anything else. All this to say go to a consultation or seminar. Better yet, find a support group and go to one of their meetings and talk to people who are living it. Good luck! Cheryl S. -
Stacey, Are you from Texas? I am also 5'5" and about 215. I am going for my 1st consultation tomorrow. A little nervous, but excited. I have no doubts about what I am doing. I saw your screen name and your height and weight and thought that sounds just like me. If you are from texas, what area and what doctor are you using? Cheryl S.

Thanks TerriDoodle. I am confident in my decision to have the surgery, but just still a little afraid of being the one percent. That's why I have definitely decided to go local, so that my doctor is near me. Good luck to you. I wish I had my date set already. Cheryl S.

Is this right? I'm in Dallas.
Cheryl S. replied to feelingpunchy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
leatha g. I think you are right. I have decided to have the whole thing done locally. I will come out at the same price by the time its all done and I'll have the benefit of having my doctor local in case I have an emergency. Cheryl S. -
You are 20 years old and have your whole life ahead of you. Don't let anyone (especially an ex) tell you that you are taking the easy way out. You are making a choice to lead a full, healthy, happy life. I heard someone say that if we were diagnosed with breast cancer today, we would be out having surgery or treatment immediately to save our lives. Why is it any different with weight? You have been given a tool to help you regain your health and your life. (O.K. I'm off my soapbox) Good Luck to you! Cheryl S.

I am new to this also. I have asked a couple of questions on other threads, but have never been on this one. I go for my consult on March 21st. I am very nervous about it all, but looking forward to being thin again. I have been overweight for about 14 years and I vaguely remember what it was like to be thin. I think what has me the most scared is reading the threads about slipping and eroding. I'll be watching your progress. Good Luck on your journey. Cheryl S.

considering Dr. Benavides in Dallas
Cheryl S. replied to conniecash's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
missy67, who are you using? How much is he charging? I am self pay and cost is a factor. I wouldnt choose someone just because their cheap, but I definitely have to consider cost. I am very worried about erosion, leakage and slippage too. I probably wont choose Dr. B. either just on your report alone. there are too many other doctors out there with only great reviews. When is your surgery? Cheryl S. -
wlgbean, I am trying to decide on a doctor. What did your doctor charge and would you choose him again. Hope you are feeling better. Cheryl S.
