  1. The first 5 months of wls went very well. I dropped a lot of weight. Then I started getting lazy about cooking. I've been going out everyday which has put a dent in my wallet and lifestyle change. Has anybody else had this experience? Feeling like you have lost control and back to old habits? If so, how did you get back to eating healthy again?

    Fell off the wagon

Thanks everyone. I'm taking all the advice given on this thread. I forgot about my crockpot. You are right about the slider food. I can't go on a full on binge like I used to before the band. I haven't gained any weight. I've just been eating unhealthy and I feel gross inside. In fact I lost weight.

    Tricare Prime

I have Tricare Prime and I was approved with no problem. I didn't have any health problems. My BMI was enough to qualify me for surgery. I just needed the doc to refer me for surgery.

    Thanksgiving

This was my first Thanksgiving with the band. I also was amazed at what people were eating. Then I thought, I used to eat that much on a regular basis. It was nice to not feel full after eating. I'm happy I'm not the only person who puts more on the plate than I can eat. I did learn not to try new foods in public. I had to keep throwing up during the meal.

    16 Aug Surgery

If I don't chew, food gets stuck. It's weird learning how to eat again. I have thrown up plenty of times. But like she said, it doesn't burn because the food has not reached the stomach yet. I walked a mile yesterday. Better than I have in the past. I'm learning to cook, because it is easier to prepare foods I know I can eat. My first fill is next week. I'm excited about how that will go.

    16 Aug Surgery

I had surgery 16 August. I'm still really gassy inside my body. people don't talk about that part. Other than that, I can barely tell I had surgery. He went through the same incisions as my gallbladder removal and removed a hernia. I can't wait for the next 3 weeks to be over so i can start eating real food again. i miss biting into food. I'm also thinking of joining Weight Watchers to help with my weight loss. I didn't realize how many people were so against weight loss surgery, so i have to keep it a secret. I have just been telling people I had hernia surgery. I'm thankful that this forum exist so I don't feel so alone in this journey. i was thinking of starting a scrap book to see my journey through the years.

    2 Weeks Out

I went to school and my teacher sent me home. I tried though. They let me Skype from home which was cool.

    2 Weeks Out

I'm on day one of my fast. I have a headache and whenever I smell food, i get jealous. I'm hoping two weeks will fly by, but I don't think that is going to happen. I'm excited that I got the approval for my surgery. I'm nervous about "what if I fail with the band as a tool for portion control?" Family and a couple of friends are supportive, but nobody else seems to be. I have to keep this a secret which sucks. I start school the same day I have surgery. How did other people do during the initial two week fast? Any tips?

    16 Aug Surgery

I skipped 1 week of mushy foods. I keep a food diary. I find I eat way less. I haven't had a full yet. Mainly been eating wraps and chili. High protein. Lost 25 pounds. I cannot do hamburgers. I cooked one and it got stuck. No craving for McDonalds and burger king anymore. The smell makes me nauseous. I'm hoping to start running next week.
  10. Before I got my surgery, I only saw my doctor one time. I had to go to the office to meet with a nutrionist every month. Maybe 2 weeks after surgery you might want to be around your family, but I don't see why you would have to be seperated for 6 months. You do have a checklist, but it does not have to be in the same area as your surgeon.
  11. I was told to use the same diet as the first two week fast. I've been eating a ton of applesauce. I can't wait for this month to end so I can eat some regular food. I miss the chewing sensation. I also miss hot food, the broth totally doesn't count. I can eat applesauce, yogurt (which is too sweet after surgery for me), and chicken broth. I'm allergic to oatmeal, but other patients can have oatmeal. I dislike the texture of jell-o, so that was out for me too.

    Am I A Liar?

I asked before I had the surgery how people felt about WLS. I was surprised by all the negative feedback. Some people thought if you get surgery, you don't appreciate your accomplishments. I knew after posting that question, that I would not tell a lot of people I was having surgery. My Dad, partner, and a couple of friends are extremely supportive. Once they realized the band was a tool, and not the ultimate answer they began to understand. My Dad is even considering getting the surgery. One of my friends has been obese her whole life, she was against it until I told her insurance covers it. Now she wants to get the surgery. Like another user on here said, you really never know who is going to support you. My vegan, all natural, yoga, ballerina teacher is extremely supportive of the surgery. She can't wait to see how it changes me. My Mother is not happy about the surgery, but I don't care. When I was fasting, I just told people I was detoxing my body getting rid of all the toxins for a month. I probably will not share that I have been banded with anybody unless they are obese like me, and are at wits end.

    2 Weeks Out

I messed up the very first day. But now I'm on day 3 and I'm doing good. No hunger pains, headaches, runs, or shakes. I'm surprised. The smell of fast food makes me nauseous. Never thought that would happen

    2 Weeks Out

Wow. You are dedicated. I signed up to do a Tough Mudder, so I need to start training for that. I am not at 2 miles yet. I have a while to get to that. Thanks for admitting you did a little cheat. I almost wanted to today because my son was eating some chicken and it smelled so good. I went upstairs until he finished.

    2 Weeks Out

I just sipped my protein shake. This will be a whole day drink. I cannot drink this in one sitting. I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm doing soy milk and the powder. ugh! When did you get banded?

    2 Weeks Out

No. I was told this is a 4 hour procedure, then I can go home. Within 24 hours I should be able to walk around.

    1 Week....

Good luck. Have you lost weight on the pre op liquid diet?
  22. Hi, I'm Angela aka Blast. I recently noticed that after my son's birth, 7 years ago, I don't have many pictures of me. I dislike taking pictures because I hate the size I am. A friend of mine is getting lap band surgery and that's what got me interested in doing weight loss surgery. I do not have much support from other friends or family. Every keeps saying, "Why don't you do it the natural way?" After looking at some youtube and reading posts on here, it seems like it is just a tool, not a procedure that automatically makes me lose weight. I've done a lot of weight loss diets before with the same outcome. It works for a while, then I get discouraged. I would work out hard and change my diet, but my size would change and not the numbers on the scale. That was so discouraging after training so hard to lose maybe 5 pounds. I'm hoping joining this group online will get me some support and advice about the lap band before and after I get the surgery. I even have a list of things I want to do once I get to goal weight. This list also gives you an idea of what type of person I am The List 1) Sky diving 2) Wear a swimsuit that I like 3) Travel to Fiji and pack only swimsuits 4) Cute Halloween costume 5) Tattoo on the side of my ribs 6) New wardrobe (not from Ashley or Lane) 7) Photo Shoot 8) Dance *wink* 9) Run a 5k 10) Buy a ring 11) Belly button piercing 12) Go to an amusement park without wondering if I will fit 13) Buy some Christians (shoes) 14) Go karaoke 15) Run down the street in the buff 16) Not be known as the fat one 17) Go snorkeling in the GA aquarium 18) Cute pregnancy 19) Takes tons of pics of whole body 20) Run after my kid without being winded 21) Get a LBD (little black dress)

    Introductions

You should make a list too!! It gives you something else to look forward to. I would be super nervous as well. Did you have a hard time with the liquid diet for two weeks? Congrats on taking the first step to a new beginning of life. Do you miss the junk food already, or has the fasting helped curb some of the cravings?
