Fibro and/or arthritis...keep you from exercising?
sleeve_sister posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just curious if anyone with fibromyalgia and/or arthritis are doing for exercise?? I have fibro, osteoarthritis, planar fasiitis, and herniated discs surrounding a 2 level cervical fusion. I just begun riding a bike since I'm supposed to be off my feet as much as possible due to the planar fasiitis, but my back and neck are screaming. It won't keep me from continuing because I'm just not that type of person I'll push through the pain. I feel like sometimes these diagnoses are an excuse not to exercise and sometimes overdue it because of that. Will the pain go away the more I exercise? I rarely take my pain meds (so rare the last time I filled them was in 2011 and they expired in sept of 2012) but last night I took one hoping I'd feel better today. Not so much! What's ya'lls experience? -

I was taped for a week it didn't work so now I've been on Celebrex for a month and its helped a little. I have another month I have to take of it. I would think that would help my back and neck too. I think I just need to get used to exercising again. -

That's awesome! Congrats! I'm 3 1/2 mths out and down 75, I can only hope to have the same success you have. I'm thrilled with the 75 and can't wait to be down another 78 to my goal. Are you strict with your diet? Do you exercise? Thanks for sharing! Your such an inspiration! -
I need a good tasting protein shake
sleeve_sister replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive tried Chike, EAS, Gatorade, some Wal-Mart brand, and Isopure. Yuck...I just ordered some samples from Vitalady.com. I hope I can find one with those. -
My husband works 6 days and anywhere from 10-14 hours so he basically comes home to eat and sleep. I cook his meals (most of them) and he takes his lunch. If he snacks he snacks on protein. He keeps beef and turkey jerky in his truck so he doesn't come home hungry and eat everything in site. Now that I've had the sleeve he knows he's not going to have a big portion at home so he makes sure he doesn't come home hungry. Could be dangerous, especially since he gets a free meal with a fill up, but he won't be able to do that much longer. Once your sleeved, you won't even think about how food will control your life, because it won't. We have a gym membership, but he rarely goes because he works so much. Since I don't work, I go every morning to keep busy. You'll find other "hobbies." Good luck!

Why do so many struggle with the band
sleeve_sister replied to Fiddleman's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I too was a bander at one time. I worked in a hospital and there were 5 of us who got it including my husband. In the beginning we all had success, however, for me it was short lived. I only lost 24 lbs and gained almost 50 back. After a few years my restriction was getting worse and I decided to look into the revision. I found out several things...my band was placed too high (by a different surgeon), when he sutured the band to my stomach the sutures punctured my stomach in two places, and my band was ulcerated. I had to first get my band removed to allow the ulcer and my stomach heal and then three months later went back for the sleeve. My husband established care with a surgeon a few weeks ago only to find out that his band was "too tight." Which resulted in weight gain from almost two years of eating slider foods. As for the other 3 women who had the band in 2009 and 2010 when we did, NONE of them are happy with their bands and two are looking into revision now that they've seen my success. Yes, the band was the craze several years ago, however, the surgeon who did my sleeve...his practice is no longer doing them because of all the complications and failure rates. Also, the sleeve is not as "new" as some believe. Back when the bypass began 20 plus years ago, they used to do the sleeve on super obese patients as a first surgery to get their weight down to minimize the risks of the bypass surgery. A lot of these patients lost so much weight and never bothered going back for the second part of the surgery. If you look under anniversaries...a few weeks ago I seen someone celebrating her 20th year post op. It's believed that the sleeve will have better ratings than the bypass, but since it hasn't been an exclusive surgery as long as the bypass it will take several years for the statistics to show it. As for your SIL, the sleeve is very different than the band and she will be thrilled with the success compared to the lack of with the band! -
My hubby currently has a lap band and will be sleeved this summer. He is a truck driver as well. Your going to LOVE the sleeve! My hubby gained all his weight when he was OTR, fortunately he's local and home every night now.

When does the mirror reflect a loss?!?
sleeve_sister posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, at what point do you look in the mirror and see the difference in your weightloss? I'm down 75 and still see the same figure. I see the difference in pictures but not the mirror. Also, for those without hunger like myself, do you still say, "I'm hungry," without realizing it? Lol u do it frequently and my hubby keeps reminding me. sleeve_sister replied to gingerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! Ever since my 1st stall I keep measurements. They don't let me down when the scale does. good luck! Don't get discouraged, I'm only 12 wks out and down 75! It happens quicker than it seems! Sleeved 10/16/12 http://sleevesister.blogspot.com Sent from my iPhone using VST -
